Explanation of signal
words for safety
Safety
Read and carefully observe these
instructions before installing, operating or
troubleshooting FlowMaster II rotary driven
hydraulic pump. Assembly must be installed,
maintained and repaired exclusively by per-
sons familiar with these instructions.
Install the assembly only after safety
instructions and this guide have been read
and are completely understood.
All required parts, tools, and equipment
are defined and listed within this manual.
Review parts list and nomenclature prior
to disassembly or operation.
Adequate personal protection must be
used to prevent splashing of material on the
skin or in the eyes.
Always disconnect power source (electricity,
air or hydraulic) from the pump when it is
not being used.
This equipment generates very high
grease pressure. Extreme caution should be
used when operating this equipment as
material leaks from loose or ruptured com-
ponents can inject fluid through the skin and
into the body. If any fluid appears to pene-
trate the skin, seek attention from a doctor
immediately.
Do not treat injury as a simple cut. Tell
attending doctor exactly what type of fluid
was injected.
Any other use not in accordance with
instructions will result in loss of claim for
warranty or liability.
• Do not misuse, over-pressurize, modify
parts, use incompatible chemicals, fluids,
or use worn and/or damaged parts.
• Do not exceed the stated maximum
working pressure of the pump or of the
lowest rated component in your system.
• Always read and follow the fluid
manufacturer’s recommendations
regarding fluid compatibility, and the use
of protective clothing and equipment.
• Failure to comply may result in personal
injury and/or damage to equipment.

Usage
Description
Models ,  and  are pump-
ing units designed to operate a Centro-Matic
lubrication system. Unit includes a vent valve
to relieve line pressure and recharge injec-
tors. FlowMaster II rotary driven electric
pumps include a motor speed control and
built in circuit protection to prevent control
burnout.
FlowMaster II pump is fully automatic
when using a system controller and a pres-
sure switch. Pump is double acting, dispens-
ing lubricant on both up and down strokes.
This unit is designed to be used with SL-V,
SL-, SL-, SL- and SL- series injec-
tors or a combination of these.
Models ,  and  include
a follower plate and mechanical low level
indicator.
Model  includes an electrical high
level switch to indicate when reservoir is full.
Models MSO, MSO and
MSO include an automatic mechanical
shut-off valve for filling reservoir.
Appropriate use
• Pump on this unit is exclusively designed
to pump and dispense lubricants using
electric power only.
• Do not exceed maximum specification
ratings.
• Any other use not in accordance with
instructions will result in loss of claims for
warranty and liability.
Operation with
system controller
When system controller times out, lube cycle
will initiate. Solenoid and pump motor are
energized to close vent valve and start
pump. Pump begins dispensing lubricant
through injectors to bearings.
When all bearings have received lubricant,
pressure rises in system to actuate pressure
switch. When pressure switch actuates, con-
trol is reset to de-energize solenoid valve
and motor. Pump stops, pressure vents and
pressure switch de-actuates. Control begins
timing toward next lube event.
Operation with
mechanical
shut-off
When attached, a mechanical shut-off sys-
tem integrates with bucket pumps to prevent
grease from overfilling during refill process.
System is designed for bucket pumps with
capacity of , ,  and  lbs (, ,
 and  kg). Refer to  for mainte-
nance and operating instructions if present.


Installation
Place unit in approximate location making
sure electric power connections are
accessible.
 Mark center locations of holes at bottom of
reservoir († fig. , page  or Fig. ,
page ).
–For models , MSO, 
and MSO drill six 1/2in ( mm)
holes. Use of 7/16 in ( mm) bolts will
offer some flexibility in securing reser-
voir to equipment.
–For models  and MSO drill
four 5/8in ( mm) holes. Use of 1/2in
( mm) bolts will offer some flexibility
in securing reservoir to equipment.
 Connect lubricant outlet of pump to sys-
tem with suitable hose capable of
  psi ( bar) working pressure.
 Wire pump motor and vent valve as shown
(† fig. , page ).
Operation
Fill reservoir
 Clean area around filling port.
 Remove lower () and upper () pipe
plugs from side of reservoir († fig. IPB ,
page ; or fig. IPB , page ).
 Attach appropriate bulk-filling pump to
lower inlet ( in NPT).
 Fill reservoir until grease appears at the
top  1/4NPT vent high level port.
 Remove bulk filling pump.
 Replace both pipe plugs.
Installation and operation
NOTE
Verify red electric motor lead is con-
nected to positive side of circuit.
Motor will not run if wired incorrectly.
NOTE
Refer to pump model  and 
operation manual  for setting
pump control on  V motor.
Fill reservoir
(MSO equipped)
Body and guide assembly (), pivot arm
(), supply line relief, follower () and
cover () work in combination with each
other to prevent grease from overfilling res-
ervoir during refill process († fig. IPB ,
page ; or fig. IPB , page ).
As grease fills reservoir, follower rises and
lifts pivot arm, forcing body and guide
assembly closed. When body and guide
assembly closes, pressure continues to rise
in supply line causing pump to stall. At that
point, supply line relief valve must be opened
to relieve pressure from system.
Operational procedure
 Verify relief valve is closed.
 Turn supply pump on.
 Supply pump stalls when gauge reaches
maximum.
 If grease level sensor or indicator option is
available with system, verify reservoir is
full of grease.
 Turn off supply pump.
 Open pressure relief valve to vent down
stall pressure. Make sure relief valve is
open long enough to remove pressure
from system.
 Disengage quick disconnect.
 Cap quick disconnect ends to prevent
contamination.
 Leave relief valve open until next fill cycle.
WARNING
Do not overfill reservoir. Extreme pres-
sure can damage reservoir and/or pump
housing.
Failure to comply may result in death
or serious injury.


Maintenance and repair
General maintenance
• Keep area around pump clean. Clean off
filling port area prior to filling reservoir.
Clean area around filler after filling as
lubricants will attract dirt.
• Keep lubricants clean and free of dirt
and debris.
System malfunction
• Refer to Troubleshooting (page ) to
determine where to look if problems occur.
• Refer to corresponding sections for
replacement and repair of specific areas.
• Each part is identified with a number
keyed to a matching part on
illustrated views.
• General recommendations of tools
required are also specified in each step.
• Pay particular attention to warning state-
ments to prevent personal injury and pos-
sible damage to pump components.
Outlet check service
Refer to Troubleshooting (page ) to
determine if outlet check valve () is
cause of failure.
Pump will not build up sufficient lubricant
pressure if outlet check () is fouled
(† fig.  and fig. , page ). Foreign mate-
rial may lodge beneath check ball () or
between check disc () and seat () of
bushing assembly. Sealing surfaces of seat
must form a perfect seal. Clean parts or
replace if pitted, worn or scored.
 Turn off and disconnect electric power
supply to pump assembly ().
 Standard tools required are bench
mounted vice, set of open end wrenches
ranging from 7/16 to  1/2in, large  in
( mm) adjustable wrench and
smaller  in ( mm) adjustable
wrench.
 Remove hose () and elbow ().
 Remove outlet check assembly () and
adapter () by loosening adapter from
tee ().
 Remove adapter () from outlet check
assembly ().
 Remove outlet connector () from
bushing ().
 Remove ball check seat () from outlet
connector ().
 Pull check disk assembly () out of ball
check seat ().
 Remove and discard gaskets ( and ).
 Clean and inspect all check components
(, , , and ) for scoring, damage
or any foreign material.
 Replace any damaged components of
outlet check assembly (). Replace gas-
kets ( and ).
Reverse above procedure to reassemble.
Torque check assembly to  ft-lbf
( Nm).


Mechanical low level
indicator
Indicator seal () may be damaged if indi-
cator pin appears to drop prematurely or
water is noticeable on top of follower,
(†fig. , page  and fig. IPB ,
page ; or fig. IPB , page ).
 Remove bolts (), eyebolts () and lock
washers () which attach cover () to
reservoir assembly ().
 Inspect reservoir gasket seal () for dam-
age. If damage is apparent, replace gasket.
 Remove entire pump, vent valve and fol-
lower assembly from reservoir.
 Remove retaining ring () from indicator
rod assembly ().
 Hold indicator plug () with wrench while
removing indicator nut ().
 Remove and replace o-ring ().
 Reassemble in reverse of above
procedure.
Safety unloader valve
Safety unloader valve () (†fig. IPB ,
page  or fig. IPB , page ) is not
serviceable. Replace if malfunction is
apparent. Upon reassembly, tighten to
 ft-lbf (. Nm).
Safety unloader valve () is set to open at
  to   psi ( to  bar) lubricant
pressure. If pressure switch fails to operate
and shut off hydraulic supply to pump, safety
unloader will open at approximately
  psi ( bar) to relieve lubricant
supply line pressure (safety unloader is
preset and not adjustable).
Automatic
mechanical shut-off
Refer to manual  for automatic
mechanical shut-off.
Bare pump assembly
Refer to manual  for bare pump
assembly ().
Follower
If follower foam appears to be damaged or
does not wipe sides of reservoir effectively
service may be necessary (†fig. , page 
and fig. IPB , page ; or fig. IPB ,
page ).
 Disconnect electric supply from pump.
 Remove bolts (), eyebolts () and lock
washers () which attach cover () to
reservoir assembly ().
 Lift pump (), vent valve () and drum
cover () out of reservoir ().
 Remove cable assembly () from fol-
lower assembly ().
 Remove follower assembly from reser-
voir assembly.
 Wipe off excess grease from follower
assembly.
 Loosen and remove nuts () on top of
follower assembly.
 Remove weighted follower plate () and
follower foam ().
 Replace with new foam.
 Remove and save spacers () from
inside of foam before discarding foam.
Reverse above procedure to re-assemble
making sure long bolts () are staggered
with small ones ().
NOTE
Do not bend housing tube during
removal of pump, vent valve and drum
cover.


Troubleshooting
Condition Possible cause Corrective action
Pump does not operate. No electric power to pump. Turn on or connect hydraulic supply to pump.
• Motor relay failure Replace relay
• Motor overheated Turn power off for  minutes and restart
• Motor tripped out on locked rotor protection Remove high pressure or repair cause of locked pump
• Broken gearset or shaft Repair gearbox
• Blown fuse Replace fuse, check for cause of overload
Pump motor polarity is reversed Check red motor lead is wired to positive side of circuit
Pump runs excessively. Pump tube malfunction. Refer to manual .
Outlet check damage or contamination. Repair check or remove contamination.
Vent valve damage or contamination. Repair vent valve or remove contamination.
System component leaking. Repair leaks.
Injector bypassing. Repair injectors.
Pump speeds up or runs erratically. Low level of grease or reservoir is empty. Refill reservoir.
Follower plate is stuck and separated from grease. Check follower plate and reservoir for damage.
Pump piston or checks are worn. Refer to manual .
Pump runs, but output is low. Motor speed control set too low. Turn screw to speed up motor. Refer to manual .
Faulty inlet or discharge check valve in pump. Replace faulty components. Refer to manual .
Lubricant leaking from safety
unloader valve.
Pressure of system set too high. Adjust pressure switch setting.
Safety unloader damaged or contaminated. Replace safety unloader.

