About your SMART Board interactive whiteboard
•
touch sensitive interactive whiteboard
•
enables you to do everything you would do on your computer  with one touch of a finger  acts
as your mouse
•
write over any document or application with digital ink
Using your interactive whiteboard requires a computer and a digital projector
•
your computer runs an application & sends the image to your projector
•
your projector casts the image to your SMART Board
•
your SMART Board acts as your monitor and your mouse &/or keyboard
•
you can control any application by touching the screen
•
remove
any magnets close to your SMART board
SMART Software
•
to use your SMART Board, you must have SMART Notebook and
SMART Product Drivers
•
most schools and/or districts require your IT team to install the software
•
it can be downloaded and installed from SMART's website
•
you will have a free 30 day trial, contact your school or district's IT team for the product key
•

The Pen Tray
the ready light
Plugging in your SMART Board for the first time
•
when you plug in your SMART Board to your computer for the first time, the ready
light will flash green for a few minutes.
•
this is normal
•
when your ready light is
solid green
, your board is fully functional
•
the lights on the pen tray will also flicker each time you plug in the USB cable
note:
if you see a flashing green light for longer
than a few minutes, an amber light or a red
light: please consult the
Troubleshooting Guide
•
pick up a pen or the eraser from the pen tray
•
it will detect which tool you have selected
onscreen keyboard
right mouse click
note:
pick up
one tool at a time
 replace a tool before you pick up a new one
The pen tray will light up with which ever tool was picked up last
:this will be your active tool until you put it down in its original spot
2.
Orienting the SMART Board
•
this is very important so that your SMART Board knows where your touch is
•
this will allow objects to be moved easily & writing to be on the correct area of the board
•
press the onscreen keyboard &
•
the right mouse click buttons together & release
•
this will launch the orientation screen
•
hit the centre of the
target and release
•
using the SMART pen is
more accurate than
your finger
•
the SMART board
registers your
final
point of
contact  so be as
accurate as possible to
the middle of the target
when you let the pen go
•
If your SMART Board and/or your projector are not permanently mounted, you will
need to reorient the board more often
•
if you change the
mirroring
or
screen resolution
on your computer, you will need
to reorient each time you make a change
3.

other components
:don't use sharp or pointed objects such as ballpoint pens or pointers as writing tools

Safety Tips
•
the projector beam is bright  don't look directly at the light, and enforce this with your students
(not necessary with ultrashort throw projectors)
•
be careful in touching the projector, as it can get very hot, and enforce this with your students
•
don't use a chair to increase a student's reach  if necessary, move the toolbar to the bottom of
Notebook software

before you clean your SMART Board, unplug the USB cable from your computer
