General safety instructions
1. Correct use
MPT/SMW-Autoblok Live Tooling work safely and trou-
ble-free if they are used according to their specification,
i.e. milling, drilling and tapping within the mechanical
limits of the live tool. Any other use can cause hazards.
2. Personnel
Live Tools must be installed, operated and maintained
only by qualified and regularly trained personnel.
3. Safety precautions
During the machining process, the Live Tool must be in a
closed and protected area, in order to protect personnel
from the high-speed release of any rotating part.
Maintenance and actuation of the Live Tool must be per-
formed only when the machine spindle is stopped!
4. Maintenance
Live Tools must be maintained according to their specifi-
cation. Check the general operating conditions frequent-
ly. In case of broken parts, replace them with the original
MPT/SMW-Autoblok spare parts only!
Any maintenance and inspection must be carried out only
when the machine spindle is stopped!

This service manual contains the operating and maintenance
instructions for the Live Tooling you have purchased.
MPT/SMW-Autoblok reserves the right to make changes without
notice.
This service manual may not be – in whole or in part – copied or
duplicated without our written permission.
This manual is part of the Live Tool and must be supplied to the
new user in case of sale.
1. SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
CAUTION: please always follow the recommendations included
inthis manual.
MPT/SMW Autoblok is not responsible for damage to property or
injury caused by failure to observe the safety precautions in this
service manual.
n During the machining operations, all personnel should wear
personnel protective clothing including safety glasses and safety
shoes. Operating and service personnel should observe all appli-
cable environmental and safety standards when operating and
maintaining MPT/SMW Autoblok live tools.
n Do not use the live tools for purposes different from those for
which they have been designed and manufactured.
n Do not stop the LT by touching or holding the tool. Never touch
or hold any moving or rotating part of the tool.
n Do not clean, grease or make any kind of maintenance opera-
tion during operation or rotation of the Live Tool.
1.1 FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION
MPT/SMW Autoblok Live Tooling has been designed and manufac-
tured to carry out drilling, boring, tapping and milling operations.
The warranty will be valid only and exclusively through the proper
use of the tool.
1.2 FORBIDDEN USE
MPT/SMW Autoblok Live Tooling may not be used in any operation
not described above or which exceeds the physical capabilities of
the live tool (refer to the inspection report for the mechanical char-
acteristics and technical features).
n Any use of MPT/SMW Autoblok live tooling different from those
the Live Tooling have been designed and manufactured for, is for-
bidden.
MPT/SMW Autoblok is not responsible for damage to property or
injury caused by improper use of live tools.
2. PACKING
2.1 RECEIVING/UNPACKING
The package of our Live Tooling includes, in addition to the live tool:
- customer drawing of live tool;
- test/inspection report;
- instruction manual;
- declaration of incorporation;
- tube of grease containing 7 gr. of special grease HPG-LT for the
bevel gear lubrication (angular tools, tilting tools, straight tools with
offset only);
- wrench.
Please contact your nearest MPT/SMW Autoblok office if any of the
items listed above are missing from the live tool package.
If the Live Tool is damaged or does not correspond to your order,
please do not use it and notify MPT/SMW Autoblok immediately.
Please observe all environmental standards when disposing of the
live tooling packaging.
2.2 LONG TERM STORAGE
If you store a Live Tool for 30 days (1 week for the models with
central passage for coolant) or longer, please follow these recom-
mendations:
- clean the Live Tool carefully, removing all dirt and chips;
- protect the ground areas with a grease film and/or anti-corrosion
fluids;
- store in a clean and dry location at a temperature between +20°
and +100° F;
- protect the Live Tool from dust and dirt
- clean the coolant tubes.
For the Live Tooling with coolant thru: first insert compressed air
into the feeling holes, to eliminate working traces inside, then intro-
duce ISO G68 oil to avoid seals dryness.
2.3 PRECAUTIONS FOR TRANSPORT
If you need to pack the Live Tool again for any reason (i.e. to send it
back to us for repair) please pack it carefully. The Live Tool should
be wrapped and insulated in a way to prevent damage during trans-
port; protect all surfaces with oil.

3. USE
n The correct and safe attachment to the turret of the live tool
blocks and the tools they will hold should be confirmed prior to
operation of the live tool.
n Before mounting the Live Tool in the machine, we recommend
lightly greasing the drive.
n If any abnormal noise or excessive vibration are detected dur-
ing operation of the live tool, immediately stop the operation of the
tool and contact the service department at MPT/SMW Autoblok.
n Any type of use of MPT/SMW Autoblok live tools different from
those described here, is forbidden
SMW Autoblok is not responsible for damage to property or injury
caused by improper use of live tools.
3.1 TOOL MOUNTING
In the Live Tooling supplied with an ER collet, the collet must be
mounted in the nut first, then the nut must be screwed on to the
threaded shaft, using the proper wrench.
3.2 LIVE TOOLING WITH EXTERNAL OR INTERNAL COLLET NUT.
Attach the collet nut using wrench ”B”, keeping the shaft steady
with wrench “A” (see the picture).
4. GREASING INSTRUCTIONS
n CAUTION: Use only MPT/SMW-Autoblok HPG-LT grease.
4.1 STRAIGHT LIVE TOOLS LT-S
The LT-S (straight Live Tools) do not require any lubrication.
4.2 ANGULAR LIVE TOOLS LT-A
The LT-A (angular Live Tools) should be lubricated every 3000 run-
ning hours. This interval is dependent on the operating conditions.
For safety reasons, the Live Tool must be dismounted from the tur-
ret and placed on a work bench to be greased:
- open the greasing screw (do not lose or damage the safety seal);
- hold the LT by the drive and manually rotate the tool. Insert 2
grams of HPG-LT grease, then rotate the tool spindle 90° and insert
2 more grams of grease. 2 grams of grease should be inserted for
each 90° of spindle rotation (approx. total grease quantity min 5
max 7 gr., according to LT size);
- remount the LT on the turret again, ensure that the mounting
bolts are properly tightened, and that the ER collet nut is properly
attached;
- let the tool rotate for approx. 2 min. at a speed of 100 rpm, to
allow for even distribution of the grease.
n CAUTION: when you begin rotation of the tool, do not exceed
3.000 rpm for approx. 1 min.
4.3 ANGULAR LIVE TOOLS WITH OFFSET LT-S
The LT-S (angular Live Tools with offset) should be lubricated every
3000 running hours. This interval is dependent on the operating
conditions.
n CAUTION: when you begin rotation of the tool, do not exceed
3.000 rpm for approx. 1 min.
4.4 LIVE TOOL LT-T - 180° TILTING MODEL
The LT-T (180° tilting model) must be greased every 1500 hours,
depending on the operating conditions.
n CAUTION: when you begin rotation of the tool, do not exceed
3.000 rpm for approx. 1 min.
4.5 LIVE TOOLING WITH INTERNAL PASSAGE OF THE LIQUID
REFRIGERANT.
The live tooling with internal passage of the liquid refrigerant
have seals that can deteriorate without an accurate filtering water
(between min. 0.01 max 0.02 mm.).
These live tooling can be used only with water emulsified with an oil
percentage between 3% and 5%.
5. SPARE PARTS AND SERVICE
Live Tools are complex components. Genuine MPT/SMW Autoblok
spare parts are available from your authorized MPT/SMW Autoblok
distributor. We recommend you return your live tool to MPT/SMW
Autoblok for all necessary service. Our factory trained engineers
and technicians will provide the proper level of service to maintain
a long service life of your live tool.
6. TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE
In case of any problem, please read following points.
Should the problem continue, please contact MPT/SMW Autoblok.
Trouble Possible cause
Non-concentric Tool rotation - the collet has been improperly inserted in the nut;
- the collet is worn or the tool has slipped within the clamping diameter;
- the collet is dirty;
- the conical seat is dirty.
Tool breakage - Wrong rotation direction of the tool
(verify the LT rotation in the literature)

1. Utilizzo corretto
I portautensili rotanti MPT/SMW-Autoblok lavorano in
sicurezza e senza problemi se sono usati in conformità
alle loro specifiche, cioè per eseguire operazioni di fre-
satura, foratura e filettatura. Qualsiasi utilizzo diverso da
questi può essere rischioso.
2. Personale
L’installazione, l’utilizzo e la manutenzione dei portau-
tensili rotanti va eseguita esclusivamente da personale
qualificato e appositamente istruito.
3. Precauzioni
Durante il processo di lavorazione, i portautensili rotanti
devono essere in un’area chiusa e protetta, in modo da
proteggere gli operatori dal rischio di rilascio di compo-
nenti a velocità molto elevata. La manutenzione dei por-
tautensili rotanti va eseguita esclusivamente a macchina
ferma!
4. Manutenzione
I portautensili rotanti devono essere sottoposti a regolare
manutenzione secondo le loro specifiche. Controllate
frequentemente le condizioni generali. I particolari rotti
vanno sostituiti esclusivamente con ricambi originali
MPT/SMW-Autoblok!
I controlli e la manutenzione vanno eseguiti a macchina
ferma!

n Non usare il portautensili rotante per scopi diversi dai quelli per
cui è stato progettato e costruito.
n Non cercare di fermare il portautensili rotante con la mano toccan-
do o bloccando l’utensile. Non toccare o cercare di bloccare alcuna
parte in movimento o in rotazione del portautensili.
n Non eseguire operazioni di pulizia, ingrassaggio o qualunque
tipo di manutenzione durante la rotazione del porta utensili rotante.
1.1 UTILIZZO PREVISTO
I nostri portautensili rotanti sono stati progettati e costruiti per ese-
guire operazioni di foratura, fresatura, filettatura e maschiatura.
La garanzia è valida solo ed esclusivamente attraverso il corretto
utilizzo del portautensili.
1.2 UTILIZZO PROIBITO
I nostri porta utensili rotanti non devono essere utilizzati per alcun
tipo di operazione diversa da quelle sopra descritte o che ecceda
i parametri per i quali essi sono stati disegnati e costruiti (fare rife-
rimento alla documentazione per le caratteristiche meccaniche e i
dati tecnici).
n E’ vietato qualsiasi tipo di utilizzo diverso da quelli per i quali i
portautensili rotanti sono stati progettati e costruiti.
MPT/SMW-Autoblok declinano qualsiasi responsabilità per even-
tuali danni a operatori, macchine, componenti o ai portautensili
rotanti stessi, derivanti da uso improprio del prodotto.
2. IMBALLAGGIO
2.1 RICEVIMENTO/DISIMBALLO
L’imballo contenente il portautensili rotante comprende anche:
- il disegno di caratteristiche;
- il report del test di controllo;
- il manuale di istruzioni;
- dichiarazione di incorporazione
- un tubetto da 7 gr. di grasso speciale HPG-LT per l’ingrassaggio
della coppia conica (solo per i tipi LT-S OFFSET, LT-A e LT-T).;
- chiave.
Se qualsiasi di queste voci dovesse risultare mancante nel vostro
imballaggio, non esitate a contattare MPT/SMW-Autoblok o la
nostra filiale o agente più vicini.
Se notate che il portautensili rotante è danneggiato o non cor-
risponde a quanto avete ordinato, non utilizzatelo e contattate
immediatamente MPT/SMW-Autoblok.
L’eliminazione dell’imballo deve essere effettuata secondo le norme
locali riguardo lo smaltimento dei rifiuti.
Le operazioni di scarico, movimentazione, installazione e stoccag-
gio vanno eseguite nel rispetto della legislazione vigente in materia
di sicurezza sul posto di lavoro.
2.2 STOCCAGGIO
Nel caso dobbiate immagazzinare il prodotto per un periodo supe-
riore ai 30 giorni ( 1 settimana per i modelli con passaggio centrale
del liquido refrigerante ), attenetevi alle seguenti regole:
- pulire con cura il portautensili rotante, rimuovendo eventuali sfridi
di lavorazione;
- proteggere le aree rettificate con una pellicola di grasso e/o fluidi
anticorrosione;
- immagazzinare in luogo fresco e asciutto, con temperatura com-
presa tra i -5° e i + 40° C (20°-100° F);
- proteggere il portautensili rotante da polvere e sporcizia.
- pulire i tubi di refrigerazione;
Per i portautensili rotanti dotati di passaggio centrale del refrigeran-
te, immettere nei fori di alimentazione aria compressa per eliminare
i residui all’interno del circuito e poi immettere olio ISO G68 onde
evitare che le guarnizioni possano seccare.

2.3 PRECAUZIONI PER IL TRASPORTO
Se il portautensili rotante dovesse essere per qualsiasi ragione
nuovamente imballato (ad esempio per essere inviato a MPT/
SMW-Autoblok in conto riparazione), vi raccomandiamo di usare
ogni precauzione affinchè esso non venga danneggiato durante il
trasporto; proteggere le superfici con olio protettivo.
3. UTILIZZO
n Il fissaggio corretto e sicuro del portautensili rotante e degli
utensili deve essere verificato prima di avviare la macchina.
n Prima dell’installazione in macchina del portautensili rotante, è
consigliabile ingrassare leggermente la presa di moto.
n Se sentite rumori anomali o vibrazioni eccessive quando avvia-
te la rotazione del portautensili rotante della torretta motorizzata,
arrestate immediatamente la rotazione del portautensili rotante e
contattate i nostri uffici.
n Qualsiasi tipo di utilizzo, diverso da quelli specificati nel presen-
te manuale, non è consentito.
MPT/SMW-Autoblok declina qualsiasi responsabilità in caso di
danni agli operatori, alle macchine, ai componenti o ai portautensili
rotanti stessi, causati da utilizzo improprio.
3.1 MONTAGGIO DEL PORTAUTENSILE ROTANTE
Nel portautensili rotante con pinza ER, la pinza va prima fissata
nella ghiera, poi la ghiera va avvitata nell’alberino filettato, utilizzan-
do l’apposita chiave.
3.2 PORTAUTENSILI ROTANTE CON GHIERA ESTERNA O INTERNA
Fissate la ghiera usando la chiave ”B”,tenendo fermo l’alberino con
la chiave “A” (vedere immagine di seguito)
4. ISTRUZIONI PER L’INGRASSAGGIO
n ATTENZIONE: Utilizzare solo grasso MPT/SMW-Autoblok
HPG-LT.
4.1 PORTAUTENSILI ROTANTE DIRITTO LT-S
Il modello LT-S non necessita di ingrassaggio
4.2 PORTAUTENSILI ROTANTE ANGOLARE LT-A
Il modello LT-A deve essere ingrassato ogni 3000 ore, a seconda
delle condizioni di lavoro.
Per l’operazione di ingrassaggio il portautensili rotante deve, per
ragioni di sicurezza, essere smontato dalla torretta motorizzata e
riposto su un banco di lavoro.
- svitare la vite di ingrassaggio (prestare attenzione a non perdere o
danneggiare la guarnizione di sicurezza);
- ruotando manualmente il portautensili rotante dalla presa di moto,
inserire 2 gr. circa di grasso HPG-LT ogni 90° di rotazione dell’al-
bero del (quantità totale di grasso a seconda delle dimensioni del
portautensili rotante: min. 5 gr. max. 7 gr.);
- rimontare il portautensili rotante sulla torretta motorizzata assicu-
randosi che le viti di fissaggio ( se previste ) siano correttamente
avvitate e che la ghiera di chiusura della pinza ER sia correttamente
bloccata.
- fare girare il rotante per circa 2 minuti ad una velocità di 100 giri\
min., per consentire una distribuzione omogenea del grasso;
n ATTENZIONE: quando si riprende la lavorazione, non superare
i 3.000 giri\min. per circa 1 minuto.
4.3 PORTAUTENSILI ROTANTE DIRITTO CON ASSE DISASSATO LT-S
OFFSET
Il modello LT-S OFFSET deve essere ingrassati ogni 3000 ore, a
seconda delle condizioni di lavoro.
n ATTENZIONE: quando si riprende la lavorazione, non superare
i 3.000 giri\min. per circa 1 minuto.
4.4 PORTAUTENSILI ROTANTE TILTABILE di 180° LT-T
Il modello LT-T deve essere ingrassato ogni 1500 ore, a seconda
delle condizioni di lavoro.
n ATTENZIONE: quando si riprende la lavorazione, non superare
i 3.000 giri\min. per circa 1 minuto.
4.5 PORTAUTENSILI ROTANTE CON PASSAGGIO CENTRALE DEL
LIQUIDO REFRIGERANTE.
I porta utensili rotanti dotati di passaggio centrale del liquido refri-
gerante dispongono di tenute che possono deteriorarsi senza un
accurato filtraggio dell’acqua ( tra min. 0,01 max 0,02 mm. ).
Questi porta utensili possono essere utilizzati solo con acqua emul-
sionata con una percentuale di olio compresa tra il 3% ed il 5%.
5. MANUTENZIONE STRAORDINARIA/RICAMBI
I porta utensili rotanti sono prodotti complessi; in caso di manu-
tenzione non-ordinaria, vi raccomandiamo di inviarli al nostro
stabilimento più vicino. Il nostro servizio riparazioni/manutenzione
eseguirà le operazioni necessarie nel più breve tempo possibile.
In qualsiasi caso utilizzare soltanto ricambi originali MPT/SMW-
Autoblok.
6. PROBLEMI E POSSIBILI CAUSE
In caso di anomalia, Vi preghiamo di leggere attentamente i punti
seguenti.
Se il problema persiste, contattate MPT/SMW-Autoblok.
Problema Possibile causa
Rotazione non concentrica dell’utensile - la pinza non è stata montata correttamente nella ghiera;
- la pinza è usurata o è slittato l’utensile nell’interno del diametro di bloc-
caggio;
- la pinza è sporca;
- la sede conica porta-pinza è sporca.
Rottura dell’utensile - senso di rotazione errato dell’utensile
(verificare la rotazione di uscita del porta utensilI sulla sua scheda di
caratteristiche);
