Installation
Purpose of this manual
This manual is an installation manual of HD Upconvertor
Board BKMW-104.
This manual is intended for system and service engineers,
and provides the information that is required to install this
unit.
Related manual
Besides this installation manual, the following manual is
available for BKMW-104.
.Maintenance Manual (In common with the VTR,
available on request.)
This manual describes the information for the mainte-
nance of this unit and the information that premises the
parts level service.
If this information is required, please contact your local

Installation of BKMW-104
The BKMW-104 is mainly composed of the HIF-1B
assembly and SDI/HD SDI panel assembly.
.HIF-1B assembly: Insert it into the slot No. 8
of the VTR.
.SDI/HD SDI panel assembly: Replace with the SDI
input panel (for recorder)
or the blank panel (for
player) on the connector
panel of the VTR.
Be sure to attach the BKMW-104 in accordance with
Section 1-3.

.This unit cannot be used together with Network Interface
Board BKMW-E2000/E3000.
.When this unit is installed onto MSW-M2000E/
M2000EP/M2100E/M2100EP, the e-VTR function (VN-
13 board assembly, etc) needs to be removed from the
VTR.
For details on how to remove the e-VTR function, refer
to the BKMW-E3000 Installation Manual supplied with
MSW-M2000E/M2000EP/M2100E/M2100EP.

VTR Maintenance Mode
For the detailed information for each menu of the mainte-
nance mode, refer to Section 3 of the maintenance manual
volume-1 of the VTR.
Activating the maintenance mode
Press S1500 (A-1) on SS-89 board of the VTR.
Entering a mode (menu)
Press the F5 (SET) button once under the asterisk cursor
(*) is aligned to the desired mode (menu) with the menu
displayed on the video monitor.
The *mark is shifted by turning the MULTI CONTROL
knob of the VTR.
Exiting a mode (menu)
Press the F6 (EXIT) button of the VTR several times to
exit the mode (menu).

SDI and HD SDI: BNC 75 Z, MALE

.SDI connection cable: Max. 200 meters in length
(It is recommended to connect the BELDEN 8281 cable
or quivalent)
.HD SDI connection cable: Max. 100 meters in length
(It is recommended to connect the BELDEN 1694A or
equivalent.)

1. Check the following ROM version by M30 of the
maintenance mode of the VTR. (For the operation,
refer to “VTR Maintenance Mode” in Section 1-2.)
SY ROM: Version 4.50 and higher (MSW series)
Version 6.52 and higher (DVW series)

When the SY ROM version is lower than above, the
VTR will not operate properly even if the BKMW-104
is correctly installed. When updating the software is
required, contact your local Sony Sales Office/Service
Center.
2. Turn off the power of the VTR.
3. With the two screws (with stopper) fully loosened,
remove the upper lid (rear) assembly of the VTR in the
arrow direction.
4. Remove the cable protector (or the harness holder).

5. Insert the HIF-1B assembly into the slot No. 8 of the
VTR, and push simultaneously down the two eject
levers of the board to firmly connect it to the mother-
board.

When inserting the HIF-1B assembly, make sure that
the wire holder of the SDI-52 board is fixed as shown
in the figure to prevent the wire holder from contacting
the HIF-1B assembly.
6. Remove the SDI input panel (for recorder) or the blank
panel (SDI) (for player) from the connector panel of
the VTR.
For the recorder
Remove the six screws, and then remove the SDI input
panel and the coaxial connector converter.
For the player
Remove the four screws, and then remove the blank
panel (SDI).

(1) Affix the blank panel of the supplied accessories
onto the SDI/HD SDI panel assembly.
(2) Attach the SDI/HD SDI panel assembly to the
VTR using the four screws of the supplied acces-
sories.
9. Connect the coaxial cables (A), (B) and (C) to the
coaxial connectors of the HIF-1B assembly, and fix
them with the wire holder as shown in the figure.

7. Route the coaxial cables of the BKMW-104’s SDI/HD
SDI panel assembly through the hole of the VTR
chassis.
8. Attach the SDI/HD SDI panel assembly.
For the recorder
(1) Attach the coaxial connector converter to the SDI/
HD SDI panel assembly using the two screws of
the supplied accessories.

Be sure to position the coaxial connector converter
as shown in the figure.
(2) Attach the SDI/HD SDI panel assembly to the
VTR using the four screws of the supplied acces-
sories.

10. Arrange the coaxial cables as shown in the figure, and
reattach the cable protector (or harness holder).
For the cable protector
Reattach the cable protector in the arrow direction.
For the harness holder
Hook the A portion of the harness holder into the hole
of the VTR chassis, and fix it with a screw.
11. Reattach the upper lid (rear) assembly of the VTR, and
tighten the two screws (with stopper).
12. Affix a VIDEO CONTROL label of the supplied
accessory above the OPTION connector (D-SUB 9
pin) on the connector panel of the VTR.
