Laser Information
The STHT77616 Semi-Automatic Rotary Laser is a Class 2 laser
product. The laser is a self-levelling laser tool that can be used
for a variety of alignment projects.
EC-Declaration of Conformity

WARNING
Laser Radiation Exposure. Do not disassemble or modify
the laser tool. There are no user serviceable parts inside.
Serious eye injury could result.
• If the equipment is used in a manner not specied by the
manufacturer, the protection provided by the equipment may

• Do not remove or deface warning labels. If labels are
removed, the user or others may inadvertently expose
themselves to radiation.
• Position the laser securely on a level surface. If the laser falls,
damage to the laser or serious injury could result.
Personal Safety
• Stay alert, watch what you are doing, and use common sense
when operating the laser. Do not use the laser when you are
tired or under the inuence of drugs, alcohol, or medication.
A moment of inattention while operating the laser may result
in serious personal injury.
• Use personal protective equipment. Always wear eye
protection. Depending on the work conditions, wearing
protective equipment such as a dust mask, nonskid safety
shoes, hard hat, and hearing protection will reduce personal
injury.
Tool Use and Care
Follow the instructions in the Maintenance and Care section
of this manual. Use of unauthorized parts or failure to follow
Maintenance and Care instructions may create a risk of electric
shock or injury.
Battery Safety

To reduce the risk of injury, the user must read the
Product Manual and the Laser Safety Manual.

Always insert batteries correctly with regard to
polarity (+ and –), as marked on the battery and the
equipment. Do not mix old and new batteries.
Replace all batteries at the same time with new
batteries of the same brand and type.
WARNING:
Batteries can explode, or leak, and can cause injury
or re.To reduce this risk:
• Carefully follow all instructions and warnings on the battery
label and package.
• Do not mix battery chemistries.
• Do not dispose of batteries in re.
• Keep batteries out of reach of children.
• Remove batteries if the device will not be used for several
months.
• Do not short battery terminals.
• Do not charge disposable batteries.
• Remove dead batteries immediately and dispose of per local
codes.
Installing the Batteries
Installing D Batteries in the Laser Tool
1. On the bottom of the laser, lift the latch to unlock and open
the battery compartment cover (Figure Ⓒ①).
2. Insert two new, high-quality D cell batteries, making sure to
position the - and + ends of each battery as noted inside the
battery compartment (Figure Ⓒ②).
3. Push the battery compartment cover closed until it snaps in
place (Figure Ⓒ③).
Installing AAA Batteries in the Detector
1. On the back of the detector, lift the latch to unlock and open
the battery compartment cover (Figure Ⓔ①).
2. Insert two new, high-quality AAA batteries, making sure to
position the - and + ends of each battery as noted inside the
battery compartment (Figure Ⓔ②).
3. Push the battery compartment cover closed until it snaps in
place (Figure Ⓔ③).
Using the Accessories
Tripod Mount
1. Choose a location for the tripod (Figure Ⓚ) where it will not
be disturbed.
2. Extend the tripod legs as required. Adjust the legs so the
tripod head is approximately horizontal.
3. Position one of the laser tool's 5/8″‑11 screw holes
(Figure Ⓖ) over the tripod's 5/8″‑11 mounting screw and
tighten the mounting screw.
CAUTION: Do not leave the laser tool unattended on
a tripod without fully tightening the mounting screw.
Failing to do so may lead to the laser tool falling and
sustaining damage.
Target Card
Some laser kits include a plastic Laser Target Card (Figure Ⓛ)
to aid in locating and marking the laser beam. The target card
enhances the visibility of the laser beam as the beam crosses
over the card. The card is marked with standard and metric
scales. The laser beam passes through the red or green
plastic and reects off the reective tape on the reverse side.
The magnet at the top of the Target Card is designed to hold
it to ceiling tracks or steel studs to determine plumb and level
positions. For best performance when using the Target Card, the
front of the card should be facing you.
Laser Enhancement Glasses
Some laser kits include Laser Enhancement Glasses
(Figure Ⓙ). These glasses improve the visibility of the laser
beam under bright light conditions or over long distances when
the laser is used for interior applications. These glasses are not
required to operate the laser.
CAUTION:
These glasses are not ANSI approved safety glasses
and should not be used while operating other tools.
These glasses do not keep the laser beam from entering
your eyes.
CAUTION:
To reduce the risk of serious injury, never stare directly
into the laser beam with or without these glasses.

Turning the Laser On
The laser tool can be turned on in Self-Levelling Mode, Manual
Mode, or in the Vertical Position.
Use To
Self-Leveling Mode Place the laser tool on an uneven
surface.
Manual Mode Position the laser tool at any angle.
Vertical Position Reposition the laser tool by 90°.
Self-Leveling Mode
Self-Levelling Mode allows the laser tool to compensate for
placement on an uneven surface up to 4°.
1. Place the laser tool on a smooth, at, level surface.
2. Position the laser tool horizontally (Figure Ⓐ).
3. Move the Lock Switch to the left to select Self-Leveling
Mode (Figure Ⓜ①).
4. Press to turn the laser tool ON.
5. Do not look into the laser beams as they turn on.
• The rotary laser beam turns on (Figure Ⓐ①).
• The Plumb Up Dot laser beam turns on from the top of
the laser tool (Figure Ⓐ②).
6. On the keypad, make sure (Figure Ⓗ②) turns
GREEN. If is ashing RED, the battery level is low.
5. Allow the laser tool 5 seconds to self-level.
6. If the laser is within its 4° compensation range:
• The rotary laser beam starts to rotate (Figure Ⓐ①).
• On the keypad, remains off (Figure Ⓗ①).
• The laser tool is level and ready for use.
If the laser is NOT within its 4° compensation range:
• The rotary laser beam does NOT rotate.
• On the keypad, FLASHES RED (Figure Ⓗ①).
• The laser is not level and must be repositioned on a more
level surface before use.
7. When you are nished using the laser tool in Self‑leveling
Mode, press to turn the laser tool OFF.
Using Manual Mode
Manual Mode allows the laser tool to be positioned at any
angle. When in manual mode, the laser tool is not guaranteed
to be level.
1. Place the laser tool on a smooth, at, level surface.
2. Position the laser tool horizontally (Figure Ⓐ).
3. Move the Lock Switch to the right to select Manual Mode
(Figure Ⓜ②).
4. Press to turn the laser tool ON.
5. Do not look into the laser beams as they turn on.
• The Rotary laser beam turns on and rotates 360°
(Figure Ⓐ①).
• The Plumb Up Dot laser beam turns on from the top of
the laser tool (Figure Ⓐ②).
6. On the keypad, make sure (Figure Ⓗ②) turns
GREEN. If is ashing RED, the battery level is low.
7. On the keypad, make sure is solid RED (Figure Ⓗ①)
8. Use the laser tool.
9. When you are nished using the laser tool in Manual mode,
press to turn the laser tool OFF.
Using the Vertical Position
Placing the laser in the Vertical Position repositions the laser by
90°. When positioned vertically, the laser does not compensate
for an uneven surface. The laser is not guaranteed to be level.
1. Place the laser tool on a smooth, at, level surface.
2. Position the laser vertically (Figure Ⓑ).
3. Move the Lock Switch to the right to select Manual Mode
(Figure Ⓜ②).
4. Press to turn the laser tool ON.
5. Do not look into the laser beams as they turn on.
• The Rotary laser beam turns on and rotates 360°
(Figure Ⓐ①).
• The Plumb Up Dot laser beam turns on from the top of
the laser tool (Figure Ⓐ②).
6. On the keypad, make sure (Figure Ⓗ②) turns
GREEN. If is ashing RED, the battery level is low.

7. On the keypad, make sure:
• is solid RED (Figure Ⓗ①).
• turns ON (Figure Ⓑ②).
8. Use the laser tool.
9. When you are nished using the laser tool in the Vertical
Position, press to turn the laser tool OFF.
Performing Accuracy Checks
NOTE:
• The laser tool is sealed and calibrated at the factory to the
Rotary Laser Specications listed in this manual.
• It is recommended that you perform the accuracy checks
before using the laser tool.
• Be sure to allow the laser tool adequate time to Auto-Level (at
least 5 seconds) prior to performing an accuracy check.
• The laser tool should be checked regularly to ensure its
accuracy, especially for precise layouts.
Horizontal Check
1. Mount the laser tool in its horizontal position (Figure Ⓐ①)
on a tripod 5m from a wall, with the front of the laser tool
facing the wall (Figure Ⓝ①).
2. Power ON the laser tool in Self-Levelling Mode
(Figure Ⓜ①).
3. Wait 5 seconds for the laser tool to Auto-Level and make
sure the rotary laser beam is rotating.
4. Where the laser line appears on the wall, mark point D1
(Figure Ⓝ①). If available, use a detector to more easily
locate the beam.
5. Turn the laser tool 180° on the tripod. The back of the laser
tool should now be facing the wall (Figure Ⓝ②).
6. Where the laser line appears on the wall, mark point D2
(Figure Ⓝ②).
7. Measure the vertical distance between points D1and D2
(Figure Ⓝ③).
• If the distance between D1and D2is < 2.0mm,
calibration is not required. You can continue using your
laser tool.
• If the distance between D1and D2is ≥2.0mm, you must
have your laser tool calibrated at an authorized Stanley
service center. To locate your nearest Stanley service
center, go to www.2helpU.com.
8. Turn the laser tool 90° so the left side faces the wall
(Figure Ⓝ④).
9. Repeat steps 4. through 7. for the sides of the laser tool.
Vertical Check
1. Mount the laser tool in its vertical position (Figure Ⓐ②) on
a level tripod 1m from a wall that is at least 2m high, with
the left side of the laser tool facing the wall (Figure Ⓞ①).
2. Power ON the laser tool in Manual Mode (Figure Ⓜ②).
3. Where the rotary laser beam appears on the oor 1m from
the wall, mark point A(Figure Ⓞ①):
4. Where the rotary laser beam, the oor, and the wall all
meet, mark point B.
5. Where the rotary laser beam appears 2m up the wall, mark
point D1.
6. Turn the laser tool 180° on the tripod. The right side of the
laser tool should now be facing the wall (Figure Ⓞ②).
7. Move the level tripod to align the rotary laser beam with
points Aand B.
8. Where the laser beam appears on the wall 2m above the
oor, mark point D2(Figure Ⓞ②).
9. Measure the horizontal distance between points D1and D2
(Figure Ⓞ②).
• If the distance between D1and D2is < 1.2mm,
calibration is not required. You can continue using your
laser tool.
• If the distance between D1and D2is ≥1.2mm, you must
have your laser tool calibrated at an authorized Stanley
service center. To locate your nearest Stanley service
center, go to www.2helpU.com.

Plumb Up Dot Accuracy Check
1. Mount the laser tool in its horizontal position (Figure Ⓐ①)
on a tripod in a room with a ceiling that is at least 7.5m
higher than the tripod height (Figure Ⓟ①).
2. Power ON the laser tool in Self-Levelling Mode
(Figure Ⓜ①).
3. Where the Plumb Up Dot laser beam is displayed on the
ceiling, mark point A(Figure Ⓟ①).
4. Rotate the laser tool 180° on the tripod (Figure Ⓟ②).
5. Where the Plumb Up Dot laser beam is now displayed on
the ceiling, mark point B(Figure Ⓟ②).
6. Measure the distance between points Aand B
(Figure Ⓟ②).
7. If the distance between points Aand Bis greater than the
allowable distance for the corresponding ceiling height in
the following table, calibration is necessary.

Changing the Rotation Speed
Press to cycle through the available speeds for the rotary
laser beam.
Press Rotary Laser Beam Speed
Default 300 RPM
x1 600 RPM
x2 0 (Plumb Dot Laser Beam)
x3 150 RPM
Adjusting the Vertical Tilt
The Vertical Tilt option uses the Adjustment Knob (Figure Ⓑ①)
and the level vial (Figure Ⓑ②) to adjust the laser tool's base
up to +/- 5° along its length.
• To move the laser tool's base closer to the surface
(Figure Ⓘ③), turn the Adjustment Knob clockwise
(Figure Ⓘ②). As you turn the knob, the bubble on the level
vial will move upward (Figure Ⓘ①).
• To move the laser tool's base away from the surface
(Figure Ⓘ⑥), turn the Adjustment Knob counterclockwise
(Figure Ⓘ⑤). As you turn the knob, the bubble on the level
vial will move downward (Figure Ⓘ④).
Using the Detector
The Detector allows you to determine the location of the laser
bean when distance or lighting conditions make the laser beam
difcult to see.
Detector Setup
You can hold the Detector by hand or attach it to the optional
clamp to mount the detector to a measuring rod, pole, or similar
object.
Using the Detector with a Clamp
1. Guide the clamp onto the detector using the alignment holes
on the clamp (Figure Ⓕ①)and the back of the detector
(Figure Ⓕ②.
2. Turn the xing screw clockwise to tighten (Figure Ⓕ③).
3. Loosen the tightening knob (Figure Ⓕ④) by turning it
counterclockwise.
4. Place the clamp onto a level staff, pole, or similar object.
5. Turn the tightening knob (Figure Ⓕ④) clockwise to secure
the clamp to the level staff, pole, or similar object.
6. Loosen the clamp to move the detector up or down to detect
the Reference Level (Figure Ⓕ⑤).
7. Once the Reference Level is found, turn the tightening knob
clockwise to hold the clamp in position.
8. Read the position shown at the Reference Line edge of the
clamp (Figure Ⓕ⑥).

Operating the Detector
Turning the Detector ON
1. On the front of the detector, press to turn the detector
ON.
2. On the keypad, make sure lights up (Figure Ⓓ⑧). You
should also hear a short tone.
3. Use the detector.
Turning the Detector OFF
1. On the front of the detector, press to turn the detector
OFF.
NOTE: The detector will automatically turn OFF after it does
not detect a laser beam for 10 minutes.
2. To turn the detector ON again, press .
Adjusting the Accuracy
When powered ON, press to toggle the detector's accuracy
setting between HIGH and LOW.
• The default accuracy setting is HIGH.
• LOW accuracy is indicated by a lit RED (Figure Ⓓ⑨).

Adjusting the Speaker Volume
When you power ON the detector, the volume will default to
LOUD. To change the volume to SOFT or MUTE, press to
toggle through the volume settings (LOUD/SOFT/MUTE).
Detecting the Reference Level
1. While powered ON, position the detector where the laser
beam is projected.
2. Use the detector’s level vial (Figure Ⓓ②) to maintain
a level plane.
3. Within 40° of the laser beam source, point the reception
window (Figure Ⓓ③) toward the laser beam.
4. Use the Laser Detected LEDs to align the Reference Line
(Figure Ⓓ①) with the laser beam.
Down LED
The Reference Line is higher than the laser beam.
Move the detector down (Figure Ⓓ④).
Up LED
The Reference Line is lower than the laser beam.
Move the detector up (Figure Ⓓ⑥).
Reference Line LED
The Reference Line is aligned with the laser
beam. (Figure Ⓓ⑤).
NOTE: If the speaker volume is ON (LOUD/SOFT), an
audible tone also assists with aligning the detector.
Tone Meaning
Fast Beep The detector must be moved down.
Slow Beep The detector must be moved up.
Steady Beep The laser beam is aligned with the
Reference Line.
5. When the laser beam is aligned with the Reference Line
(Figure Ⓓ①), mark that position.
NOTE: If the top of the detector is used as a marking
location, reference the back of the detector for the
measurement compensation value (Figure Ⓓ⑦).

Maintenance and Care
• When the laser tool is not in use, clean the exterior parts
with a damp cloth, wipe the laser tool with a soft dry cloth
to make sure it is dry, and then store the laser tool in the kit
box provided.
• NEVER use solvents to clean the laser tool.
• Do not store the laser tool at temperatures below ‑10˚C or
above 40˚C.
• To maintain the accuracy of your work, check the laser tool
often to make sure it is properly calibrated.
• Calibration checks and other maintenance repairs must be
performed by Stanley service centers.
End of Life
DO NOT dispose of this product with household waste.
ALWAYS dispose of batteries per local code.
PLEASE RECYCLE in line with local provisions for the collection
and disposal of electrical and electronic waste under the WEEE
Directive.

WARNUNG

• Wenn das Gerät in einer Weise verwendet wird, die nicht vom
Hersteller angegeben ist, können die Schutzfunktionen des

• Verwenden Sie keine optischen Werkzeuge wie Teleskope
oder Tachymeter, um den Laserstrahl zu sehen. Es können
schwere Augenverletzungen auftreten.
• Bringen Sie den Laser nicht in eine Stellung, in der jemand
absichtlich oder unbeabsichtigt in den Laserstrahl blicken
kann. Es können schwere Augenverletzungen auftreten.
• Stellen Sie den Laser nicht in der Nähe einer reektierenden
Oberäche auf, die den Laserstrahl in Richtung der
Augen von Personen ablenken kann. Es können schwere
Augenverletzungen auftreten.
• Schalten Sie den Laser aus, wenn er nicht verwendet wird.
Wenn der Laser eingeschaltet bleibt, erhöht sich das Risiko,
dass jemand in den Laserstrahl blickt.
• Nehmen Sie keinerlei Änderungen am Laser vor.
Veränderungen am Werkzeug können zu gefährlicher
Laserstrahlung führen.
• Betreiben Sie den Laser nicht in der Nähe von Kindern
und lassen Sie ihn nicht von Kindern bedienen. Es können
schwere Augenverletzungen auftreten.
• Entfernen oder beschädigen Sie keine Warnetiketten. Wenn
Etiketten entfernt werden, können der Benutzer oder andere
Personen unbeabsichtigt Strahlung ausgesetzt werden.
• Stellen Sie den Laser auf einer ebenen Fläche auf. Wenn der
Laser umfällt, kann es zu Schäden daran oder zu schweren
Verletzungen kommen.
Sicherheit von Personen
• Seien Sie aufmerksam, achten Sie darauf, was Sie tun, und
gehen Sie sachgerecht mit dem Laser um. Benutzen Sie den
Laser nicht, wenn Sie müde sind oder unter dem Einuss von
Drogen, Alkohol oder Medikamenten stehen. Ein Moment der
Unachtsamkeit beim Betrieb eines Lasers kann zu schweren
Verletzungen führen.
• Tragen Sie persönliche Schutzausrüstung. Tragen Sie
Augenschutz. Je nach Arbeitsbedingungen empehlt sich das
Tragen von Schutzausrüstung, zum Beispiel Staubmaske,
rutschfeste Sicherheitsschuhe, Schutzhelm und Gehörschutz,
um Verletzungen zu vermeiden.

Befolgen Sie die Anweisungen im Abschnitt Wartung und
Pege dieses Handbuchs. Die Verwendung nicht genehmigter
Teile oder die Nichtbeachtung der Hinweise zu Wartung
und Pege können zur Gefahr von Stromschlägen oder zu
Verletzungen führen.
Sicherer Umgang mit
Batterien
WARNUNG:
Um das Risiko von Verletzungen zu verringern, muss der
Benutzer das Produkthandbuch sowie das
Lasersicherheitshandbuch lesen.
Legen Sie Batterien immer korrekt ein (+ und –), wie
auf der Batterie und dem Gerät angegeben.
Verwenden Sie nicht gleichzeitig alte und neue
Batterien. Ersetzen Sie alle Batterien gleichzeitig
durch neue Batterien der gleichen Marke und des
gleichen Typs.
WARNUNG:
Batterien können explodieren oder auslaufen und
dadurch Verletzungen oder Feuer verursachen. Zum
Reduzieren dieses Risikos:
• Befolgen Sie sorgfältig die Anleitungen und Warnhinweise auf
dem Etikett des Batterien und der Verpackung.
• Verwenden Sie nicht gleichzeitig Batterien mit
unterschiedlicher chemischer Zusammensetzung.
• Entsorgen Sie Batterien nicht im Feuer.
• Halten Sie Batterien aus der Reichweite von Kindern fern.
• Entfernen Sie die Batterien, wenn ein Gerät mehrere Monate
nicht gebraucht wird.
• Schließen Sie Batterieklemmen nicht kurz.
• Nicht versuchen, Einwegbatterien aufzuladen.
• Entfernen Sie leere Batterien sofort und entsorgen Sie sie
gemäß den örtlichen Vorschriften.
Einlegen der Batterien
Einlegen von D Batterien in das
Laserwerkzeug
1. Heben Sie unten am Laser die Lasche an, um die
Batteriefachabdeckung zu entriegeln und zu öffnen
(Abbildung Ⓒ①).
2. Legen Sie zwei neue, hochwertige D-Zellen-Batterien
ein und stellen Sie dabei sicher, dass die mit - und +
gekennzeichneten Enden jeder Batterie richtig herum im
Batteriefach liegen (Abbildung Ⓒ②).
3. Schieben Sie die Batteriefachabdeckung zu, bis sie
einrastet (Abbildung Ⓒ③).
Einlegen von AAA-Batterien in den Detektor
1. Heben Sie hinten am Detektor die Lasche an, um die
Batteriefachabdeckung zu entriegeln und zu öffnen
(Abbildung Ⓔ①).
2. Legen Sie zwei neue, hochwertige AAA-Batterien
ein und stellen Sie dabei sicher, dass die mit - und +
gekennzeichneten Enden jeder Batterie richtig herum im
Batteriefach liegen (Abbildung Ⓔ②).
3. Schieben Sie die Batteriefachabdeckung zu, bis sie
einrastet (Abbildung Ⓔ③).
Verwendung von Zubehör
Stativmontage
1. Wählen Sie einen Standort für den Dreifuß (Abbildung Ⓚ)
wo er nicht gestört werden wird.
2. Verlängern Sie die Stativbeine nach Bedarf. Stellen Sie die
Beine so ein, dass der Stativkopf ungefähr horizontal steht.
3. Positionieren Sie eines der 5/8″‑11‑Schraublöcher
des Laserwerkzeugs (Abbildung Ⓖ) über die
5/8″‑11‑Befestigungsschraube des Stativs und ziehen Sie
die Befestigungsschraube fest.
VORSICHT: Lassen Sie das Laserwerkzeug nicht
unbeaufsichtigt auf einem Stativl, ohne die
Befestigungsschraube vollständig festzuziehen.
Anderenfalls kann das Laserwerkzeug herunterfallen
und beschädigt werden.
