Due to these limitatio ns, we rec o mmend that if the auto matic self-test feature is no t

General Descrip t io n and Op erat ion
The Telg uardTG-7FP is a c ellular radio alarm transmissio n device used to pro vid e a so le
transmissio n path ( c ellular) fo r c o mme rc ial alarm pane ls. The TG-7FP c an also b e used as eithe r a
Primary o r Se c o ndary Path de vic e w hen an alternate c o mmunic atio ns p ath is c o nne c ted to ano ther
FACP-Telc o interfac e o r DACT. In suc h c ases, the p ane l d etermines the alarm repo rting path. W hen
transmitting an alarm sig nal, the TG-7FP o b tains its data fro m the alarm panel by w ay o f the DACT
interfac e . The TG-7FP will o b tain all alarm sig nal info rmatio n inc luding mo nito ring statio n pho ne
numb er, ac c o unt numb er and all zo nes fo r every alarm transmissio n. The TG-7FP handshakes with
the alarm panel and c auses it to transmit the alarm data. The TG-7FP enc o d es the alarm data and
transmits it to the Telg uard Co mmunic atio n Cente r ( TCC) o ver the c e llular ne two rk. The TCC
pe rfo rms a func tio n similar to a c entral statio n rec e ive r and issues the transmissio n
ac kno w ledg eme nt whe n the last me ssag e in the transmissio n is rec eive d. After d ec o ding and
refo rmatting , the alarm sig nal is ro uted o ver a telc o line (Public Switc hed Telepho ne Netwo rk -
PSTN) o r via the Internet (IP) to the de sired alarm c o mp any c entral statio n fo r ac tio n.
In a typical alarm installatio n, the TG-7FP is installed in the same area as the ho st alarm system and
is c o nne c ted d ire c tly to the ho st alarm p anel via the TG-7FP -4 5 jac k. Two pro g rammab le
zo ne input terminals in o rder to pro vide Telguard tro ub le sig nals to the alarm panel. Additio nally,
auto matic se lf-te st and c hec k status re quest sig nals are transmitted exc lusively o ver the c e llular
netw o rk to the Telguard Co mmunic atio n Cente r. The TG-7FP rec eives o perating po wer fro m the
ho st alarm p anel (e ithe r re g ulated 12- o r 24-vo lt DC), and all c ellular mo nito ring and superviso ry
func tio ns are built in. No extra mo dules are req uired.
The UL Listed eq uipment at the TCC plays a key ro le in the o peratio n o f every Telg uard devic e. All
Telg uard c o mmunic ato rs utiliz e the TCC d ue to the p anel alarm sig nal fo rmat enc o d ing and
dec o ding req uirements used in p ac ket-data transmissio ns o ver the d ig ital cellular netwo rk. The TCC
also manag es the re al- time datab ase s fo r c ellular ac c o unts and a c o mplete histo ry o f eve ry
c o mmunic ato r ting c o nd itio ns. These c o nd itio ns inc lud e pro g ramming setup info rmatio n,
c ellular alarm transmissio n info rmatio n, superviso ry tro uble info rmatio n, status info rmatio n, and
auto matic self-te st info rmatio n.

S30 4, the TG-7FP must meet these requirements (Sec urity Level II) :

c o mmunic atio n path. Eac h c o mmunicatio n path shall b e mo nito red fo r integ rity ( DACT shall have line
mo nito ring enab led and the TG-7FP shall have c ellular c o nnec tio n sup ervisio n e nab le d) . Fo r Level P2,
the wo rking c o mmunic atio n path shall repo rt the failure o f the o ther c hannel within 24 0 s.
•The TG-7FP shall be used in c o njunc tio n with a ULC o r c -UL Listed Co ntro l Unit/ Alarm Panel, whic h will
supp ly p o we r to o p erate the c o mmunic ato r.
•STC1 and STC2 shall b e c o nne c ted fro m the c o mmunic ato r to the c o ntro l panel and d esig nate d fo r
g ene ral tro ub le c o nd itio ns.

the ap plic ab le c e llular netwo rk where the re is no wireline servic e availab le . The TG-7FP c an also b e
used as eithe r a Primary o r Sec o nd ary Path d evic e whe n an alternate c o mmunic atio ns p ath is
c o nne c ted to ano ther alarm panel DACT interfac e. In suc h c ase s, the p anel de termine s the alarm
repo rting p ath.

The Telguard TG-7FP supports multiple alarm c o mmunication fo rmats.
NOTE: The c o mmunic ato r pro g ram se tting is fo r auto de te c tio n o f the pane l alarm fo rmat.
Auto Fo rmat Detec t feature allows the communicator to adapt to receive any listed fo rmat. If the alarm
fo rmat is c hanged for any reaso n, the c o mmunicato r will adjust to acc ept the new fo rmat.

A no se rvic e c o nditio n (NSC) o c c urs w hen the TG-7FP is unable to reg ister with the c ellular netwo rk.
NSC c an b e c o nfig ured to trip the sup erviso ry re lay o utput ( STC relay) afte r a p ro g rammab le pe rio d
o f time. The STC LED will flash 4 times immed iately after lo sing c ellular servic e and dial-to ne will
c ease to b e pro vided, independent o f the STC assertio n and pro g rammed assertio n delay. NSC
resto ral o c c urs imme diately afte r c e llular servic e has b een ac q uired .

In o rd er to satisfy UL and ULC requirements, the TG-7FP c an enab le link sup ervisio n at preset
intervals. Onc e the TG-7FP is pro visio ned with the Link Supervisio n o p tio n, the TCC c o nstantly
mo nito rs the c ellular p ath and se nds a sp ec ific me ssag e to the c e ntral statio n if the p ath is b ro ken
o r a c o mpro mise atte mpt is made. After the initial ac c o unt ac tivatio n is do ne, the installer must
verify the Link Supervisio n b y turning o ff the c o mmunic ato r and making sure an alarm w ith the
spe c ific c o d e is d elivered.

panel. The TG-7FP will supply 30 VDC b y default b ut c an be c onfigured to supply 40 VDC, as
needed. A Dial To ne Failure ( DTF) o c c urs when the c o mmunic ato r is unable to pro vide p ro per
telepho ne sig naling to the p anel ( vo ltag e supp lie d d ro p s w hile the alarm p anel is o n-ho o k) . The STC
LED will flash 6 times and the STC relay will trip.

extensio n c able ( no t inc luded) to lo c ate the antenna in an area with better rec eptio n. Generally, the
hig her the antenna the better.

Trip a zo ne o n the alarm panel and c o nfirm that the TG-7FP enab les the alarm panel to transmit
alarm events o ve r the c ellular rad io netw o rk. The Telg uard w ill c o nfirm ac tivatio n w ith the TCC if
the reg istratio n fo rm was c o mpleted prio r to installatio n.
During p ro c e ssing o f the first alarm sig nal o ver the c e llular netwo rk, the c o mmunic ato r will transmit
to the TCC all pro gramming p arameters alo ng with the info rmatio n ( Central Statio n number and
ac c o unt c o de ) fro m the alarm panel. Onc e this info rmatio n is rec eived , the TCC transmits a messag e
b ac k indic ating that the c o mmunic ato r is ac tivate d. W hen this me ssag e is rec eive d the LEDs o n the
c o mmunic ato r will b eg in o pe rating in no rmal mo d e and Ac tivatio n LED 1 will remain o n.
NOTE: The init ial alarm is to c o nfirm re g istratio n and ac t ivate t he c o mmunic ato r. This alarm will
NOT b e transmitte d to the c e ntral statio n.

If the c o mmunic ato r fails the ac tivatio n p ro c e ss, it w ill be d isplayed o n the LEDs.
•If LED 1 and LED 4 are flashing , the c o mmunic ato r has failed ac tivatio n. The se rial numb er is no t
in the database at the TCC. Clear the fault (see no te belo w) and c all Telg uard Tec hnic al Suppo rt
to verify p ro p er re g istratio n b efo re re se nding an alarm sig nal.
•If LEDs 1-5 are flashing , there is an ac tivatio n e rro r. The ac tivatio n me ssag e was NOT rec eived at
the TCC. Clear the fault ( see no te b elo w ) and retry transmitting an alarm sig nal. If the
c o mmunic ato r fails a sec o nd time to ac tivate, c he c k sig nal streng th. If sig nal stre ng th is OK,
the n c all Telg uard Tec hnic al Supp o rt fo r further assistanc e .
NOTE: In o rde r to c le ar the faults liste d ab o ve , the RSSI b utto n must b e p re sse d twic e . Afte r
the issue has b e e n re so lve d and the unit c le are d, STEP 4 MUST BE REPEATED TO ACHIEVE

The trip input is c o nnec ted to the external relay by wiring the exte rnal relay to the TRIP IN terminal
(pin 6) o f the te rminal b lo c k, and the o the r side to the TRIP GND terminal o f the same b lo c k ( pin 5).
No te that trip inputs are c o mmo nly wired suc h that there is a 2.2kΩresisto r in parallel with the
exte rnal re lay, so that a tampe r c o nd itio n ( e.g ., a c ut wire) c an b e d ete c ted. W he n the trip input
func tio nality is b e ing used , c lo sing the trip c o ntac t will c ause the c o mmunic ato r to send a messag e
to the TCC, whic h in turn will cause the TCC to send a messag e to the c entral statio n. If the
