Note:Whenpositionedonalevelsurface,themachinemust
notcreepwhenyoureleasethetractionpedal.
1.Parkthemachineonalevelsurface,engagetheparking
brake,lowerthecuttingunittotheoor,andshutoff
theengine.
2.Jackuptherearofthemachineuntilthereartiresare
offtheshopoor.Supportthemachinewithjack
standstopreventitfromfalling.
Note:On4-wheel-drivemodels,thefronttiresmust
alsobeofftheshopoorandsupportedbyjackstands.
WARNING
Theenginemustberunningsothatyoucan
performthisadjustment.Thiscouldcause
personalinjury.
Keepyourhands,feet,face,andotherbody
partsawayfromanyhotpartsoftheengine
andanyrotatingparts.
3.Starttheengine,setthethrottletotheSLOWposition,
andobservewhichdirectionthereartiresrotate.
Important:Makesurethatthetractionpedalisin
theNEUTRALposition.
•Iftheleftreartireisrotating,loosenthejamnuts
ontheleftsidetransmissioncontrolrod(Figure9).
Note:Theforwardendofthecontrolrodhasa
left-handthread.Therearendoftherod,which
isconnectedtothetransmission,hasaright-hand
thread.

•Iftheleftreartireisrotatinginreverse,lengthen
therodbyslowlyturningtherodcounterclockwise
(asviewedfromthefront)untiltheleftreartire
stopsrotatingorhasminimalrotationinreverse.
•Iftheleftreartireisrotatingforward,shortenthe
rodbyslowlyturningtherodclockwise(asviewed
fromthefront)untiltheleftreartirestopsrotating.
4.MovethethrottletotheFASTposition.Makesurethat
thewheelremainsstoppedorhasminimalrotationin
reverse.Adjustitasrequired.
5.Tightenthejamnuts.
6.Repeattheprocedurefortherightreartire,ifrequired,
byusingtheright-sidetransmissioncontrolrod.
7.Shutofftheengine,removethejackstands,andlower
themachinetotheshopoor.
8.Testdrivethemachinetomakesurethatitdoesnot
creep.
