1. General information
■
The ventilation duct sensor described in the operating instructions
has been manufactured using state-of-the-art technology. All
components are subject to stringent quality and environmental
criteria during production. Our management systems are certied to
ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.

These operating instructions contain important information on
handling the instrument. Working safely requires that all safety
instructions and work instructions are observed.
■
Observe the relevant local accident prevention regulations and
general safety regulations for the instrument's range of use.
■
The operating instructions are part of the product and must be kept
in the immediate vicinity of the instrument and readily accessible to
skilled personnel at any time. Pass the operating instructions on to the
next operator or owner of the instrument.

2.1 Overview

The model A2G-60 electronic ventilation duct temperature sensor
is used for temperature measurement in heating, ventilation,
air-conditioning and refrigeration systems and is primarily used in air
ducts.
Mounting is performed using a mounting ange. In conjunction with an
additional thermowell, the A2G-60 can also be used for temperature
measurement in liquid media.

3.1 Explanation of symbols

3.2 Intended use
The electronic ventilation duct temperature sensor is used for
temperature measurement in gaseous media for measuring ranges
from -50 … +250 °C [-58 ... +482 °F] (depending on the version). It is
designed for connection to control and display systems.
This instrument is not permitted to be used in hazardous areas!

The instrument has been designed and built solely for the intended use
described here, and may only be used accordingly.
The technical specications contained in these operating instructions
must be observed. Improper handling or operation of the instrument
outside of its technical specications requires the instrument to be taken
out of service immediately and inspected by an authorised WIKA service
engineer.
The manufacturer shall not be liable for claims of any type based on
operation contrary to the intended use.
3.3 Improper use

Improper use of the instrument can lead to hazardous
situations and injuries.
▶Refrain from unauthorised modications to the instrument.
▶Do not use the instrument within hazardous areas.
▶Do not use the instrument with abrasive or viscous media.
Any use beyond or dierent to the intended use is considered as
improper use.
Do not use this instrument in safety or emergency shutdown devices.
3.4 Responsibility of the operator
The instrument is used in the industrial sector. The operator is therefore
responsible for legal obligations regarding safety at work.
The safety instructions within these operating instructions, as well as the
safety, accident prevention and environmental protection regulations for
the application area must be maintained.
The operator is obliged to maintain the product label in a legible
condition.

may only be carried out by skilled personnel who have the
qualications described below.
Skilled electrical personnel
Skilled electrical personnel are understood to be personnel who, based
on their technical training, know-how and experience as well as their
knowledge of country-specic regulations, current standards and directives,
are capable of carrying out work on electrical systems and independently
recognising and avoiding potential hazards.The skilled electrical personnel
have been specically trained for the work environment they are working
in and know the relevant standards and regulations.The skilled electrical
personnel must comply with current legal accident prevention regulations.
Operating personnel
The personnel trained by the operator are understood to be personnel
who, based on their education, knowledge and experience, are capable
of carrying out the work described and independently recognising
potential hazards.
Special operating conditions require further appropriate knowledge, e.g.
of aggressive media.

4. Transport, packaging and storage
4.1 Transport
Check the instrument for any damage that may have been caused by
transport.
Obvious damage must be reported immediately.
CAUTION!
Damage through improper transport
With improper transport, a high level of damage to property
can occur.
▶When unloading packed goods upon delivery as well as
during internal transport, proceed carefully and observe
the symbols on the packaging.
▶With internal transport, observe the instructions in chapter
4.2 “Packaging and storage”.
If the instrument is transported from a cold into a warm environment, the
formation of condensation may result in instrument malfunction. Before
putting it back into operation, wait for the instrument temperature and the
room temperature to equalise.
4.2 Packaging and storage
Do not remove packaging until just before mounting.
Keep the packaging as it will provide optimum protection during transport
(e.g. change in installation site, sending for repair).
Permissible conditions at the place of storage:
Storage temperature: -20 ... +85 °C
Humidity: 0 … 85 %, not permanently condensing
Avoid exposure to the following factors:

Direct sunlight or proximity to hot objects
■
Mechanical vibration, mechanical shock (putting it down hard)
■
Soot, vapour, humidity, dust and corrosive gases
■
Hazardous environments, ammable atmospheres

Store the instrument in its original packaging in a location that fulls the
conditions listed above. If the original packaging is not available, pack
and store the instrument as described below:
1. Wrap the instrument in an antistatic plastic lm.
2. Place the instrument, along with the shock-absorbent material, in the
packaging.
3. If stored for a prolonged period of time (more than 30 days), place a
bag containing a desiccant inside the packaging.

WARNING!
Physical injuries and damage to property and the
environment caused by hazardous media
Upon contact with hazardous media (e.g. oxygen, acetylene,
ammable or toxic substances), harmful media (e.g. corrosive,
toxic, carcinogenic, radioactive), and also with refrigeration
plants and compressors, there is a danger of physical injuries
and damage to property and the environment.
Should a failure occur, aggressive media with extremely high
temperature and under high pressure or vacuum may be
present at the instrument.
▶For these media, in addition to all standard regulations,
the appropriate existing codes or regulations must also be
followed.
CAUTION!
Damage to the instrument
When working on open electric circuits (PCBs) there is a
risk of damaging sensitive electronic components through
electrostatic discharge.
▶The correct use of grounded working surfaces and
personal armbands is required.

DANGER!
Danger to life caused by electric current
Upon contact with live parts, there is a direct danger to life.
▶The instrument may only be installed and mounted by
skilled personnel.
▶Operation using a defective power supply unit (e.g. short-
circuit from the mains voltage to the output voltage) can
result in life-threatening voltages at the instrument.
▶Only switch the power supply on once the instrument has
been properly installed.
5.1 Mechanical mounting
Protect measuring instruments from contamination, high temperature
uctuations and vibrations. In order to avoid any additional heating,
the instruments must not be exposed to direct solar irradiation while
in operation.The ventilation duct temperature sensor can be fastened
directly to the ventilation duct using either a mounting ange or screws.
The IP65 protection is guaranteed, even without screwing down the case
cover. The temperature sensor is xed to the ventilation duct using the
mounting clip. If condensation could form in the thermowell, it is essential
to install it in such a way that any condensation can drain o.

Installation with a thermowell or compression tting is necessary when
used in liquid media. For better heat transfer from the thermowell to the
temperature sensor, thermal compound should be used.
5.2 Electrical mounting
Heat generation due to electrical dissipation loss
Temperature probes with electronic components always have an electrical
dissipation loss that aects the temperature measurement of the ambient
air. The dissipation loss occurring in active temperature probes increases
with rising operating voltage. This dissipation loss must be taken into
account in the temperature measurement. With a xed operating voltage
(±0.2 V) this is usually done by adding or subtracting a constant oset
value. Since the transmitters used work with a variable operating voltage,
only one operating voltage can be taken into account for production
engineering reasons.The 0 ... 10 V/4 ... 20 mA transmitters are set, as
standard, at an operating voltage of 24 V, i.e. at this voltage the expected
measured error of the output signal is lowest. At other operating voltages,
the oset error increases due to the changed dissipation loss of the probe
electronics. If recalibration is necessary directly at the probe during later
operation, this is possible using the trim pot on the probe board (for probes
with BUS interface, via a corresponding software variable).
If there are draughts, the dissipation loss at the probe is better
dissipated.This causes temporary deviations in the temperature
measurement.

5. Commissioning, operation
5.2.1 Temperature probe (passive)
The instruments are designed to operate with safety extra-low voltage
(SELV). When wiring up the instruments, the technical specications
for those instruments should be followed. Especially with passive
temperature probes (e.g. Pt1000, etc.) with a 2-wire system, the lead
resistance of the supply line must be considered. If necessary, this
must be corrected in the connected electronics. Due to self-heating, the
measuring current aects the measurement accuracy; therefore, this
should not be greater than 1 mA.
When using long connection cables (and depending on the cross-
section used), the measuring result might be falsied due to a voltage
drop on the common GND line (caused by the supply current and
the lead resistance). In this case two GND lines must be laid to the
temperature probe, one for the sense current and one for the measuring
current.

5.3 Transmitter (active)
In the case of a temperature sensor with transmitter, as a rule, the
transmitter should be operated in the middle of the measuring range,
since deviations can occur at the range limits.The ambient temperature
of the transmitter electronics should be kept constant. The transmitter
must be operated at a constant supply voltage (±0.2 V). Current/voltage
spikes from switching the supply voltage on or o must be prevented by
the customer. The measuring range is altered by changing the positions
of the jumper links (see connection diagram).The initial value of the new
measuring range is then available after approx. 2 s.

6.1 Maintenance
This instrument is maintenance-free and oers long service life provided
it is handled and operated properly.
Repairs must only be carried out by the manufacturer or appropriately
qualied skilled personnel.
6.2 Cleaning
CAUTION!
Physical injuries and damage to property and the
environment
Improper cleaning may lead to physical injuries and damage
to property and the environment. Residual media in the
dismounted instrument can result in a risk to persons, the
environment and equipment.
▶Carry out the cleaning process as described below.
1. Before cleaning, correctly disconnect the instrument from the pressure
supply, switch it o and disconnect it from the mains.
2. Use the requisite protective equipment.
3. Clean the instrument with a moist cloth (soapy water).
Electrical connections must not come into contact with moisture!

6.3 Recalibration

We recommend that the instrument is regularly recalibrated by the
manufacturer, with time intervals of approx. 12 months.The basic
settings will be corrected if necessary.

Upon contact with hazardous media (e.g. oxygen, acetylene,
ammable or toxic substances), harmful media (e.g. corrosive,
toxic, carcinogenic, radioactive), and also with refrigeration
plants and compressors, there is a danger of physical injuries
and damage to property and the environment.
▶Before storage of the dismounted instrument (following
use) wash or clean it, in order to protect persons and the
environment from exposure to residual media.
▶Observe the information in the material safety data sheet
for the corresponding medium.
WARNING!
Risk of burns
During dismounting there is a risk of dangerously hot media
escaping.
▶Let the instrument cool down suciently before
dismounting it!
DANGER!
Danger to life caused by electric current
Upon contact with live parts, there is a direct danger to life.
▶The dismounting of the instrument may only be carried out
by skilled personnel.
▶Remove the instrument once the system has been isolated
from power sources.
WARNING!

During disassembly, there is a danger from aggressive media
and high pressures.
▶Observe the information in the material safety data sheet
for the corresponding medium.
▶Dismount the instrument when there is no pressure.

7.2 Return
Strictly observe the following when shipping the instrument:
All instruments delivered to WIKA must be free from any kind of
hazardous substances (acids, bases, solutions, etc.) and must therefore
be cleaned before being returned.

Residual media in the dismounted instrument can result in a
risk to persons, the environment and equipment.
▶In case of hazardous substances, enclose the safety data
sheet for the corresponding measuring substance.
▶Clean the instrument, see chapter 6.2 “Cleaning”.
When returning the instrument, use the original packaging or a suitable
transport packaging.
To avoid damage:
1. Wrap the instrument in an antistatic plastic lm.
2. Place the instrument, along with the shock-absorbent material, in the
packaging.
Place shock-absorbent material evenly on all sides of the transport
packaging.
3. If possible, place a bag, containing a desiccant, inside the packaging.
4. Label the shipment as carriage of a highly sensitive measuring
instrument.
