2 Introduction
2.1 Operating Instructions Information
This manual p ovides info mation on the safe ope ation of the WOODWAY slat-belt
t eadmill.
One condition fo safe ope ation is compliance with all safety and ope ating inst uc-
tions.
CAUTION
Improper operation can cause accidents!
Not using the slat-belt t eadmill as intended acco ding to the manufactu e 's
inst uctions can cause accidents and equipment damage.
► These ope ating inst uctions must be completely ead and unde stood
befo e using the t eadmill.
► Keep these inst uctions close at hand fo all use s of the device.
Read and observe the operating instructions!
Read these inst uctions ca efully befo e beginning any wo k on
the t eadmill! It is a pa t of the device and must be kept
accessible at all times and in the immediate vicinity of the
t eadmill fo ope ating and maintenance pe sonnel.
WOODWAY GmbH accepts no liability fo accidents, equipment damage and

3 Safety
3.1 General
PPS se ies t eadmills have been eliably designed, manufactu ed and tested acco d-
ing to the latest state of technology and a e in a safe and technically pe fect condi-
tion. Neve theless, the device can cause isk to pe sons and p ope ty if it is
ope ated imp ope ly.
Fo this eason the ope ating inst uctions should be ead completely and safety in-
st uctions must be obse ved.
Wa nings attached di ectly to the device must be obse ved and kept in a legible
condition.
Inapp op iate use will esult in the ejection of any liability o gua antee by
WOODWAY GmbH.
3.2 Description of Warning Notices
Wa ning notices indicate potential haza ds o safety isks. They a e indicated in this
manual by a colo -coded signal wo d panel (symbol with the app op iate signal
wo d).
All wa ning notices have the same design and the same standa dized content de-
sign.

3.4 Personnel Qualifications and Responsibilities

The ep esentative is the pe son o company that is esponsible fo setting up, use
and maintenance of the device.
The ep esentative of the t eadmill is esponsible fo the egula maintenance and
testing as equi ed by law. They a e also obligated to p ovide adequate t ain-
ing/inst uction to the ope ating pe sonnel. WOODWAY GmbH ecommends the
t aining be ca ied out by t ained and autho ized WOODWAY deale o se vice pa t-
ne .
Ope ato s of t eadmills fo medical applications a e pe sons who use the device and
have the "powe of cont ol" ove the device. This can be e.g. the apists, spo ts
physicians o any othe supe viso . The ope ato of a medical device is any pe son
who - ega dless of thei qualifications - independently uses a medical p oduct in
the comme cial secto .
The ope ato is pe sonally esponsible fo the safety of the use (e.g. patient, test
subject, athlete). Due to the high deg ee of esponsibility these pe sons have a spe-
cial obligation to p ovide info mation on all aspects of safety of the device and its
intended use is equi ed.
3.5 Intended Use

In all fields of use the t eatment of patients with a va iety of physical and/o mental
limitations is ca ied out (fo example, gait impai ments, limited eflexes, etc.).
Special attention must apply to these use g oups. Compa ed to t eadmill exe cise
with healthy people the isk of inju y is conside ably highe with these use s. St ict
adhe ence to and compliance with all safety inst uctions and ope ating info mation
is the highest p io ity.
The patient may only use the t eadmill unde the supe vision of a physician and/o
the apist! The t aining p og am must be medically p esc ibed and monito ed.
Fo patients with an inc eased isk of falling, pa tial o complete body weight
suppo t th ough a weight suppo t system is to be conside ed.
WARNING
Risk of Injury Through Increased Risk of Falling!
Because of thei illness o thei physical/mental condition, ce tain people have
of an inc eased isk of falling.
► Use of a fall p otection system, suppo t belt, body weight suppo t system
(pa tial o complete).
► The manufactu e is not liable fo pe sonal inju y and/o p ope ty damage,
which could have been p evented th ough the use of a fall p otection
system, suppo t belt o body weight suppo t system.
In ehabilitation, exe cise the apy must be medically p esc ibed. The attending
physician and/o physiothe apist must have a sufficient knowledge of the indications
and cont aindications.
The indications fo t eadmill the apy a e to be eevaluated p io to each use. The
physician/physical the apist esponsible fo the patient must always pe fo m a bene-
fit/ isk assessment, thus ensu ing that the chosen fo m of t eatment is medically
app op iate and easonable conside ing the possible isks.
The e a e a numbe of cont aindications in the context of the elevant fields of the
t eadmill use. In ehabilitation only the medical staff can dete mine the fo m and
extent of the apy. Medications can have an influence on the ehabilitation
(e.g. neu oleptics, benzodiazepines, ba bitu ates, antiepileptics, etc.).
Fo applications in "endu ance t aining", "diagnostics and pe fo mance testing of
patients", "pe fo mance diagnostics" and "st ess tests" the same cont aindications
apply (among othe s) as with all physical st ess. If the e is doubt, it is impo tant
that a physician be consulted befo e using the t eadmill.
Possible cont aindications a e:
• acute myoca dial infa ction o unstable angina pecto is (st ess test)
• ca diovascula diseases such as seve e high blood p essu e at est, ca ditis,
congestive hea t failu e, seve e valvula hea t disease, dange ous hea t a -
hythmias at est o ao tic aneu ysm
Acute illnesses, feb ile conditions and newly occu ing pain ep esent an absolute
cont aindication fo physical st ess. The feasibility of a t aining p og am fo patients
with ch onic illnesses cannot be decided a p io i and equi es an accu ate assess-
ment of the isks and potential benefits.
In some situations (especially in patients with co ona y hea t disease o lung dis-
ease) ove st aining can lead to an acute intensification of the patient's symptoms,
so that an exe cise ECG is essential and t aining is only possible unde medical su-
pe vision.

• t aumatic inju y to the spine
• diabetes
• epilepsy
• inflammation
• acute mig aine headache
• cance
The use of the automated ope ation (pulse automatic, p eset p og ams, exte nal
cont ol via compute o othe device) is p ohibited, unless the st ain was autho ized
by a physician in acco dance with the patient's capacity/health.
NOTE
Claims to the manufactu e of any kind due to damage f om imp ope use a e
excluded.
The ep esentative alone is liable fo all damages esulting f om imp ope use!
3.6 Unauthorized Modes of Operation
PPS se ies t eadmills may only be used fo the afo ementioned pu pose. Any addi-
tional uses may esult in se ious pe sonal inju y and/o p ope ty damage.
The following est ictions and p ohibitions must be st ictly adhe ed to:
• The t eadmill may not be used without p io inst uction by qualified pe sonnel.
• Animals and child en may not use o be in the vicinity of the device (exception:
see "Application Options fo Child en").
• The use of the t eadmill unde the influence of alcohol o d ugs and/o na cot-
ics is p ohibited.
• The t anspo tation of objects on the t eadmill is not allowed.
• The walking su face is not suited fo the use of unning shoes with spikes o
studs.
• It is fo bidden to use the t eadmill without its side ails o with walking poles.
• The ope ation of WOODWAY slat-belt t eadmills outside of the named ambient
conditions in the section "Commissioning" (tempe atu e, humidity, ai p es-
su e) as well as outdoo s, i.e. outside of closed ooms is not allowed.
• Fo people with health limitations o cont aindications (see p evious section)
the use of a t eadmill without p io consultation by a health ca e p ofessional is
p ohibited.
• When stepping onto the t eadmill, du ing walking exe cises and when stepping
off of the t eadmill the safety inst uctions in this manual must be obse ved.
He e, the following est ictions apply:
- Neve jump on the moving belt!
- Neve jump off while the device is moving!
- Neve jump off of the f ont!
- Neve stop walking when the belt is moving!
- Neve tu n a ound when the belt is moving!
- Neve walk sideways o backwa ds (even if autho ized by a physician)!
- Neve set the st ess level (speed) too high!

3.7 Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC)
It is exp essly noted that ELECTRICAL MEDICAL EQUIPMENT is subject to special
p ecautions ega ding elect omagnetic compatibility (EMC). They must be installed
and ope ated acco dingly.
The PPS se ies t eadmills meet the equi ements of EN 60601-1-2:2001
(G oup 1, CISPR 11 Class A), EN 61000-3-2 and EN 61000-3-3.
It should be noted that po table and mobile RF communications equipment and
othe devices with inte fe ence beyond the pe missible values can affect the elec-
t onics of the t eadmill. This can influence the measu ement functions and the dis-
plays cause t eadmill malfunctions.
ATTENTION
The device is intended solely fo use by medical p ofessionals. The t eadmill is
a Class A device acco ding to CISPR 11.
When located in living a eas, the device can cause adio inte fe ence o
dis upt the ope ation of equipment in the vicinity. It may be necessa y to take
app op iate emedial measu es, such as changing the di ection, ealigning o
shielding the t eadmill o filte ing the connection to the location.

5 Transportation and Storage
5.1 Safety Notices for Transportation
Check the t eadmill fo damage upon a ival. Also check and compa e supplied ac-
cesso ies with the co esponding delive y note.
The manufactu e is not liable fo damages and missing pa ts if this info mation was
not eco ded in w iting on the delive y note upon delive y of the unit. Damage o
defects must be epo ted to the ca ie and to the esponsible WOODWAY deale
immediately.
WARNING
Risk of Injury by Machine Falling Over!
Imp ope t anspo tation of the device may lead to it falling ove and causing
inju y o equipment damage.

5.2 Flat Transportation
The t eadmill can be easily t anspo ted on a flat su face using of fou flat t anspo t
dollies (comme cial t anspo t dollies with 4 stee able wheels). In this situation the
high PPS se ies device weight must be conside ed.
It is impo tant to ensu e that the device f ame nea the t eadmill feet ests on the
dollies. Othe wise the e is a isk of damage to the walking su face o the lifting sys-
tem.
5.3 Upright Transportation
Fo na ow t anspo t outes it is possible to t anspo t the t eadmill ve tically (fo ex-
ample, na ow doo width o fo climbing stai s).
Fo this hand ails and side panels must be emoved befo ehand. If a t anspo t dolly
is used, the device must not est on the elect onics side! The elect onics a e located
in the ight side when facing in the walking di ection!
When t anspo ting in an up ight position, the device must be additionally secu ed
against accidental tipping o olling since the cente g avity is not in the middle of
the device.

5.4 Transportation with Carrying Poles
Fou ca ying poles (squa e steel pipes) a e included as t eadmill accesso ies. The
ca ying poles can be inse ted into the f ont and back openings p ovided in the
t eadmill f ame (Fig. 3 and Fig. 4).

5.5 Removing / Mounting Side Handrails
In most cases the WOODWAY is delive ed completely assembled. In some cases
the conditions at the intended location do not allow fo assembly f ee delive y
(doo s, stai s, elevato s, etc.) and the t eadmill needs to be pa tially disassembled.
DANGER
Danger of Death by Electric Shock!
Fatal elect ical shock may occu if the unit is not disconnected f om the powe
supply befo e assembly o disassembly.
► The device must be stopped, switched off and unplugged befo e being
wo ked on.
► Ensu e the device cannot be switched back on.
► Afte the powe is disconnected wait 10 minutes to ensu e that live
elect ical components (e.g. capacito s) have discha ged.
Remove handrail:
Loosen the sc ews on both side panels (3 pe side) with a Phillips sc ewd ive , Fig.
5.
On "plus" models the cutout fo the ailing is cove ed with an additional panel.
