ALIGNMENT
The FT-23R has been carefu lly alłgne by
highly skille technicians at ihe factory, an
ls esigne so that no Further allgn m ent
shoul ever be require . However, in the
unlikely event of a component failure, re-
alignm ent may be necessary. A li component
replacement an service shoul be perform e
only by an authorize Yaesu représentative, or
the warranty policy may be voi e .
The following test equipment is require for
alignment:
RF Signal Generator:
calibrate output level at 150 MHz
Deviation Meter (linear etector)
Oscilloscope
AF M illivoltm eter
SIN AD Meter
Inline Wattmeter: 150 MHz
Regulate DC Power Supply:
a justable from 4 to I7V, 2A
50-ohm Non-reactive Dummy Loa : 10W at 150 MHz
Frequency Counter: 0.2ppm accuracy at 150 MHz
AF Signal Generator
DC Voltmeter: high impé ance

Make sure the transceiver is o ff. Rem ove
the har or soft case, if use , an remove
the battery pack.
Remove the four screws affixing the battery
spring plate on the bottom o f the transcei
ver, an carefully remove the plate.
Rem ove the four screws affixin g the top
panel, an carefully remove the panel.
Remove the two screws affixin g the front
an rear halves o f the case, an gently
separate the halves, using care not to
stress the interconnecting wires.

I. PLL & TRANSMITTER
Set up the test equlpment as shown in the
iagram below for transmuter alignment. A
just the supply voltage to 12.0V for all steps
except Transmitter Output Power alignment (В).
Л. PLL VCV (Varactor Control Voltage)
(1) Connect the DC Voltmeter between C416 on
the PLL Unit an chassis groun .
(2) Whlle transmitting on 144.000 MHz a just
transformer T501 on the VCO Unit for 1.35
:0.05 VDC.
(3) While receiving on 144.000 MHz a just
trim m er TC501 on the V C O Unit for 1.1
гО.05 VDC.
(4) Retune the transceiver an confirm the
high-en VCV for the transceiver version
being aligne , as follows:

A. C. K 148.000 1.8 V 1.6 V
B. D 146.000 1.7 V 1.5 V
PLL & TRANSMITTER ALIGNMENT SETUP

B. Transmitter Output Power
(1) Tune the transceiver to ban center (145
or 146 M H z), an set the LOW switch to
the un epresse position.
(2) Increase the supply voltage to 12.5V.
(3) A just TC I0I on the Mother Boar for peak
output power on the W attm eter (at least
5W with less than 1.5A supply current).
(4) Press the LOW switch on the top panel,
an a just VR105 on the Mother Boar for
0.5 watts output.
(5) Return the supply voltage to 12.0V.
C. PLL Reference Frequency
With the transceiver tune to ban center (145
or 146 MHz), a just TC40I on the PLL Unit, if
necessary, so that the isplay frequency mat-
ches the frequency counter when transmitting.
D. Mo ulation Level
( I ) With the transceiver tune to ban center
(145 or 146 MHz), a just the AF generator
for 25mV output ai 1 kHz to the MIC Jack.
(2) A just VRI04 on the Mother Boar for ±4.5
kHz éviation on the éviation meter.
PLL & TRANSMITTER ALIGNMENT POINTS

S-meter Sensitiviiy
Set up the test equipment as shown above for
receiver allgnment.
A. Sensitivlty
(1) With the transceiver an RF signal gen
erator both tune to ban center (145 or
146 MHz), set the generator for ±3.5 kHz
éviation of I kHz tone mo ulation, an
set the output level for 40 Bu at the
antenna jack.
(2) Preset VR103 on the Mother Boar fully
clockwise.
(3) A just TI01 through T104 on the Mother
Boar for maximum S-m eter In ication,
re ucing the generator level If more than
four bargraph segments turn on.
After step (3 ), generator level shoul be 0.2
uV or less for !2 B SINAD. Perform the follow-
ing a just ment next.
II. RECEIVER
(1) With the transceiver an RF signal gen
erator set up as in step ( 1 ) of the above
Sensitivity a justment proce ure, set the
signal generator for 20 Bu output.
(2) A just VR103 on the Mother Boar so that
all bargraph segments are just turne on.
(3) Re uce the generator output so that only
two bargraph segments are on, an conflrm
that the generator output level is now 5
Bu or less.
