Introduction
This Quick Start Guide describes how to install your Adaptec® by PMC RAID
controller, create a bootable RAID 1 or RAID 5 array, and then install your
Microsoft® Windows® 2008, Microsoft Windows 7, or Red Hat® Enterprise
Linux 5 operating system and controller driver on that array. For other
installation options, refer to the Adaptec RAID Controllers Installation and User’s
Guide included on the Adaptec Installation DVD. For controller illustrations,
refer to the last section of this document.

Step 1 Install the Controller
Caution: Electrostatic discharge (ESD) can damage your controller. Follow
standard anti-ESD precautions to avoid exposing the controller to static
charge.
aIf you have a LP controller and a LP computer cabinet, replace the original
full-height bracket on the controller card with the LP bracket supplied in the
controller kit.
bTurn off the computer and disconnect the power cord.
cOpen the cabinet. Refer to the manufacturer’s instructions as needed.
dInsert the controller into an available PCIe slot that’s compatible with your
controller and secure the controller bracket to the chassis.
eOptional—Connect your computer’s disk activity LED cable to the LED
connector on your controller (not available on some models). Attach the
positive lead to pin 1.
fOptional—Connect the controller’s I2C connector (not available on some
models) to an I2C connector on an internal SAS backplane or enclosure. Use
an I2C cable (typically included with the backplane).
gInstall and connect any internal hard disk drives (HDDs) or Solid State
Drives (SSD) using the appropriate cable(s), then close the computer cabinet.
Note: To build a RAID 1, you must install two HDDs. To build a RAID 5, you
must install at least three HDDs.
hConnect any external cables and HDDs or SSDs to the controller.
●Do not attach a cable to the controller unless the other end of the cable is
attached to at least one drive. Doing so can cause unstable operation.
●Use high-quality cables—poor quality cables degrade reliability.
Step 2 Create a RAID Array
RAID 1 and RAID 5 arrays are used here as an example. Create a RAID 1 if your
controller does not support RAID 5. You can create a different level array in a
similar manner.
aTurn on the computer, then when prompted press Ctrl+A to enter the BIOS-
based configuration utility. The Menu Options screen displays.
Note: If you have more than one of the same type of controller installed,
select your controller, then press Enter.

bSelect Array Configuration Utility, then press Enter. The ACU Menu
displays.
cSelect Initialize Drives, then press Enter.
dSelect at least three HDDs for a RAID 5 array or two disks for a RAID 1. Press
Insert for each selected HDD, then press Enter.
ePress Y, then press Enter. The selected drives are initialized, then the ACU
Menu displays.
Warning: Initializing HDDs deletes all data stored on these drives. Back
up any data you want to keep before initializing the HDDs.
fSelect Create Array, then press Enter.
gSelect the HDDs you just initialized, press Insert for each selected HDD, then
press Enter.
hOn the Array Properties screen, respond as follows:
iWhen a cache warning message is displayed, type Y.
Array Type Select RAID 5 or RAID 1, then press Enter.
Array Label Type a name, then press Enter.
Array Size Press Enter, then press Enter again to use the default
granularity of GB.
Stripe Size Press Enter to use the default (256KB).
Read Caching Press Enter to use the default (Yes).
Write Caching Press Enter to use the default (Enable always).
Create RAID via Press Enter to use the default (Build/Verify).
[Done] Press Enter.

jOnce the array is created, a message tells you that the array can now be used.
Press any key to return to the ACU Menu.
Note: Although you can start using the array now, performance is reduced
until the build process is complete.
kPress Esc until the Exit Utility window appears.
lSelect Yes, then press Enter. The computer restarts.
Step 3 Set up the Boot Sequence
The process you use to access your computer’s BIOS Setup program and set the
boot sequence varies by computer manufacturer. Refer to the instructions
provided with your specific computer. Steps may be similar to:
aDuring startup, press the key combination (for example, <F2>, <F1>,
<DEL>) that starts the BIOS Setup program.
bGo to the menu used to specify the boot sequence. Put the DVD drive first—
this allows you to perform Step 4 on page 4.
cGo to the menu used to specify the boot priority for HDDs. Put the Adaptec
RAID controller first in this sequence.
dSave your changes, exit Setup, and restart the computer.
Step 4 Create the Driver Disk—Linux Only
aInsert the Adaptec Installation DVD and turn on the computer to boot from
the DVD.
bClick Create Driver Disk, then select your Red Hat Linux OS version.
cSelect your floppy disk drive letter, then select the format you want. You need
a full format only if your floppy disk is unformatted.
dInsert the floppy disk, then click OK. The computer creates the driver disk.
eRemove and label the driver disk.
fContinue with the installation of the OS and controller driver, as described in
Step 5 below. If your OS is not listed in Step 5, refer to the Adaptec RAID
Controllers Installation and User’s Guide on the Adaptec Installation DVD.
Step 5 Install the Controller Driver with the OS
Windows 2008, Windows 7
For Windows 2003 or Windows Vista, refer to the Adaptec RAID Controllers
Installation and User’s Guide on the Adaptec Installation DVD.
aInsert your Windows CD, then restart the computer.

bFollow the on-screen instructions to begin the Windows installation.
cWhen prompted to specify a location for Windows, select Load Driver.
dInsert the Adaptec Installation DVD, browse to the driver location, then click
OK.
eWhen the driver is found, press Next.
Note: With Adaptec Series 6 controllers, you may see the message ‘No drives
were found’. Repeat Step c, Step d (without reinserting the DVD), and Step e.
On the second attempt, the driver will load successfully.
fClick Next again to accept the default partition configuration, or refer to your
Windows documentation to configure partitions manually.
gFollow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5
For Red Hat 6 or other Linux versions, refer to the Adaptec RAID Controllers
Installation and User’s Guide on the Adaptec Installation DVD.
aInsert the first Red Hat installation CD.
bRestart the computer.
cWhen the Red Hat Welcome screen appears, type linux dd at the Boot:
prompt.
dWhen prompted, insert the driver disk, then select OK.
eFollow the prompts to set up the environment you want.
fIf you are installing other third-party devices, install them now. Otherwise,
select Done.
gContinue with the Linux installation, according to the Red Hat instructions.
Step 6 Install Adaptec Storage Manager
Before installing Adaptec Storage Manager, ensure that you are logged in with
administrator or root privileges. Any customization files you created using the
previous version are saved and used in the upgrade.
Windows Installation
aInsert the Adaptec Installation DV D . Select Install Adaptec Storage Manager
from the DVD menu. The Installation wizard starts. (If it doesn’t start, select
Browse the CD/DVD, then click Autorun.)
bFollow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation. When
prompted to install SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol), do not
install unless you have a specific requirement for Adaptec Storage Manager to
work with SNMP gets and traps.

Linux Installation
On Linux, Adaptec Storage Manager includes the Java Runtime Environment
(JRE).
aInsert the Adaptec Installation DVD.
bMount the Adaptec Installation DV D:
mount /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom
cChange to the manager directory:
cd /mnt/cdrom/ASMCD/linux/manager
dExtract the RPM package and install it:
rpm --install./StorMan*.rpm
eUnmount the Adaptec Installation DVD:
umount /mnt/cdrom

Schritt 1 Installation des Controllers
Vorsicht: Elektrostatische Entladungen können den Controller beschädigen.
Treffen Sie geeignete Maßnahmen gegen elektrostatische Entladungen, um
zu verhindern, dass der Controller statischer Ladung ausgesetzt wird.
aWenn Sie einen LP-Controller und ein LP-Computergehäuse haben, ersetzen
Sie die Original-Standard-Montageschiene durch die Low-Profile-Montage-
schiene, die im Controller-Kit enthalten ist.
bSchalten Sie den Computer aus und trennen Sie das Netzkabel vom
Stromnetz.
cÖffnen Sie das Gehäuse. Weitere Anweisungen finden Sie bei Bedarf in der
Dokumentation des Herstellers.
dStecken Sie den Controller in einen freien, mit dem Controller kompatiblen
PCIe-Steckplatz und befestigen Sie die Montageschiene des Controllers am
Gehäuse.
eOptional - Verbinden Sie das LED-Kabel des Computers zur Anzeige der
Laufwerkaktivität mit dem entsprechenden LED-Anschluss des Controllers
(nicht bei allen Modellen vorhanden). Verbinden Sie den positiven Anschluss
mit Pin 1.
fOptional - Verbinden Sie den I2C-Anschluss des Controllers (nicht bei allen
Modellen vorhanden) mit einem I2C-Anschluss an einer internen SAS-
Backplane oder an einem SAS-Gehäuse. Verwenden Sie ein I2C-Kabel
(normalerweise im Lieferumfang der Backplane enthalten).
gInstallieren Sie alle internen Festplatten bzw. SSD-Laufwerke und schließen
Sie diese mithilfe der entsprechenden Kabel an. Schließen Sie dann das
Computergehäuse.
Hinweis: Um ein RAID 1 zu bauen, müssen Sie mindestens zwei Festplatten-
laufwerke installieren. Um ein RAID 5 zu bauen, müssen Sie mindestens drei
Festplattenlaufwerke installieren.
hSchließen Sie die externen Kabel und Festplattenlaufwerke bzw. SSD-
Laufwerke an den Controller an.

●Schließen Sie kein Kabel an den Controller an, bevor das andere Ende des
Kabels nicht an mindestens ein Laufwerk angeschlossen wurde.
Andernfalls führt dies ggf. zu einem instabilen Betrieb.
●Verwenden Sie qualitativ hochwertige Kabel - Kabel minderer Qualität
beeinträchtigen die Zuverlässigkeit.
Schritt 2 Erstellen eines RAID-Arrays
Hier werden RAID 1- und RAID 5-Arrays als Beispiel verwendet. Erstellen Sie
ein RAID 1-Array, wenn Ihr Controller RAID 5 nicht unterstützt. Sie können auf
dieselbe Weise auch ein Array mit einem anderen RAID-Level erstellen.
aSchalten Sie den Computer ein und drücken Sie Ctrl+A, um das BIOS-
gestützte Konfigurationsdienstprogramm zu starten. Daraufhin wird das
Fenster Menu Options (Menüoptionen) angezeigt.
Hinweis: Wenn Sie mehrere Controller desselben Typs installiert haben,
wählen Sie Ihren Controller aus und drücken dann die Eingabetaste.
bWählen Sie Array Configuration Utility (Array-Konfigurationsdienst-
programm) und drücken Sie dann die Eingabetaste. Daraufhin wird das
ACU-Menü angezeigt.
cWählen Sie die Option Initialize Drives (Laufwerke initialisieren) aus und
drücken Sie dann die Eingabetaste.
dWählen Sie für ein RAID 5-Array mindestens drei Festplattenlaufwerke und
für ein RAID 1-Array mindestens zwei Laufwerke aus. Für jedes ausgewählte
Laufwerk drücken Sie nun Insert (Einfügen). Danach drücken Sie die
Eingabetaste.
eDrücken Sie die Taste Y(„Yes“ für Ja) und dann die Eingabetaste. Die
ausgewählten Laufwerke werden initialisiert. Anschließend wird das ACU-
Menü angezeigt.

Warnung: Durch das Initialisieren der Festplattenlaufwerke werden alle
Daten auf diesen Laufwerken gelöscht. Sichern Sie alle Daten, die nicht
verloren gehen dürfen, bevor Sie die Festplattenlaufwerke initialisieren.
fWählen Sie die Option Create Array (Array erstellen) und drücken Sie dann
die Eingabetaste.
gWählen Sie die soeben initialisierten Festplattenlaufwerke aus, indem Sie bei
jedem dieser Laufwerke auf Insert (Einfügen). Drücken Sie dann die
Eingabetaste.
hMachen Sie im Bildschirm Array Properties (Array-Eigenschaften) folgende
Eingaben:
iWenn eine Cache-Warnmeldung angezeigt wird, geben Sie Yein.
jWenn das Array erstellt ist, wird eine Nachricht angezeigt, dass das Array jetzt
verwendet werden kann. Drücken Sie eine beliebige Taste, um in das ACU-
Menü zurückzukehren.
Hinweis: Sie können das Array jetzt bereits verwenden; die Leistung ist
jedoch noch reduziert, bis der Erstellungsprozess vollendet ist.
kDrücken Sie die Taste Esc, bis der Bildschirm Exit Utility (Dienstprogramm
beenden) angezeigt wird.

Wählen Sie RAID 5 oder RAID 1 aus und drücken Sie
dann die Eingabetaste.

Computer wird neu gestartet.
Schritt 3 Einrichten der Startsequenz
Das Verfahren für den Zugriff auf das BIOS Setup-Programm und die Einstel-
lung der Startsequenz hängt vom jeweiligen Computerhersteller ab. Konsultieren
Sie die Anweisungen, die zu Ihrem Computer gehören. Meist sind folgende oder
ähnliche Schritte durchzuführen:
aDrücken Sie während des Startvorgangs die entsprechende Tastenkombina-
tion (zum Beispiel <F2>, <F1>, <DEL> [Entfernen]), um auf das BIOS
Setup-Programm zuzugreifen.
bRufen Sie das betreffende Menü auf, um die Startsequenz einzurichten.
Setzen Sie das DVD-Laufwerk an die erste Stelle
- nur dann können Sie
Schritt 4 auf Seite 5 durchführen.
cRufen Sie das betreffende Menü auf, um die Boot-Priorität für Festplatten-
laufwerke einzustellen. Setzen Sie den Adaptec RAID Controller in dieser
Sequenz an die erste Stelle.
dSpeichern Sie die Änderungen, verlassen Sie das Setup-Programm und
starten Sie den Computer neu.
Schritt 4 Erstellen der Treiberdiskette
(nur für Linux)
aStarten Sie den Computer und legen Sie danach die Adaptec RAID
Installations-DVD ein, um von ihr zu booten.
bKlicken Sie auf Create Driver Disk (Treiberdiskette erstellen) und wählen Sie
dann die von Ihnen verwendete Version des Betriebssystems Red Hat Linux
aus.
cWählen Sie den entsprechenden Buchstaben des Diskettenlaufwerks und
dann die gewünschte Formatierung aus. Eine vollständige Formatierung
benötigen Sie nur dann, wenn die Diskette unformatiert ist.
dLegen Sie die Diskette ein, und klicken Sie auf OK. Der Computer erstellt
daraufhin die Treiberdiskette.
eEntfernen Sie die Treiberdiskette und beschriften Sie diese.
fFahren Sie mit der Installation des Betriebssystems und des Controller-
Treibers fort, wie in Schritt 5 beschrieben. Wenn Ihr Betriebssystem in Schritt
5 nicht aufgelistet ist, konsultieren Sie bitte das Adaptec RAID-Controller
Installations- und Benutzerhandbuch auf der Adaptec Installations-DVD.

Schritt 5 Installation des Controller-Treibers auf
dem Betriebssystem
Windows 2008, Windows 7
Informationen zu Windows 2003 bzw. Windows Vista finden Sie im Adaptec
RAID-Controller Installations- und Benutzerhandbuch auf der Adaptec
Installations-DVD.
aLegen Sie die Windows-CD ein und starten Sie den Computer neu.
bStarten Sie die Windows-Installation entsprechend den Anweisungen auf
dem Bildschirm.
cWählen Sie Load Driver (Treiber laden), wenn Sie aufgefordert werden, den
Pfad von Windows anzugeben.
dLegen Sie die Adaptec Installations-DVD ein, suchen Sie den Treiber auf der
DVD, und klicken Sie auf OK.
eDrücken Sie auf Next (Weiter), sobald der Treiber gefunden wurde.
Hinweis: Bei Controllern der Adaptec Serie 6 wird möglicherweise die
Meldung "No drives were found" (Keine Treiber gefunden) angezeigt.
Wiederholen Sie die Schritte c und d, (ohne die DVD erneut einzulegen) sowie
Schritt e. Beim zweiten Versuch wird der Treiber erfolgreich geladen.
fKlicken Sie nochmals auf Next (Weiter), um die Standardpartitionskonfi-
guration zu akzeptieren, oder schlagen Sie in Ihrer Windows-Dokumentation
nach, wie Sie Partitionen manuell konfigurieren können.
gSchließen Sie die Installation entsprechend den Anweisungen auf dem
Bildschirm ab.
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5
Informationen zu Red Hat 6 und anderen Linux-Versionen finden Sie im
Adaptec RAID-Controller Installations- und Benutzerhandbuch auf der Adaptec
Installations-DVD.
aLegen Sie die erste Red Hat Installations-CD ein.
bStarten Sie den Computer neu.
cWenn der Red Hat-Begrüßungsbildschirm angezeigt wird, geben Sie an der
Eingabeaufforderung
linux dd Aufforderung.
dLegen Sie bei Aufforderung die Treiberdiskette ein, und wählen Sie OK.
eFolgen Sie den Aufforderungen zum Einrichten der von Ihnen gewünschten
Umgebung.

fWenn Sie andere Geräte von Drittherstellern installieren wollen, installieren
Sie diese jetzt. Andernfalls wählen Sie Done (Fertig).
gSetzen Sie die Linux-Installation entsprechend den Red Hat-Anweisungen
fort.
Schritt 6 Installation des Adaptec Storage
Manager
Vor der Installation des Adaptec Storage Manager müssen Sie sicherstellen, dass
Sie mit Administrator- bzw. Root-Rechten angemeldet sind. Alle kundenspezi-
fisch angepassten Dateien, die Sie in früheren Versionen erstellt haben, werden
gespeichert und im Upgrade verwendet.
Installation unter Windows
aLegen Sie die Adaptec Installations-DV D ein. Wählen Sie im DVD-Menü
Install Adaptec Storage Manager (Adaptec Storage Manager installieren).
Der Installationsassistent wird gestartet. (Falls er nicht startet, wählen Sie
Browse the CD (DVD durchsuchen), und klicken Sie dann auf Autorun.)
bSchließen Sie die Installation entsprechend den Anweisungen auf dem
Bildschirm ab. Wenn Sie aufgefordert werden, SNMP (Simple Network
Management Protocol) zu installieren, installieren Sie dieses Protokoll nicht;
es sei denn, bei Ihnen besteht eine spezifische Anforderung dafür, dass
Adaptec Storage Manager mit SNMP Gets und Traps arbeitet.
Installation unter Linux
Unter Linux enthält Adaptec Storage Manager die Umgebung Java Runtime
Environment (JRE).
aLegen Sie die Adaptec Installations-DVD ein.
bMounten Sie die Adaptec Installations-DV D:
mount /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom
cWechseln Sie in das Manager-Verzeichnis:
cd /mnt/cdrom/ASMCD/linux/manager

Introduction
Ce Guide de démarrage rapide vous indique comment installer votre contrôleur
RAID Adaptec® by PMC, créer une pile RAID 1 ou RAID 5 amorçable, puis
installer sur cette pile votre système d'exploitation Microsoft® Windows® 2008,
Microsoft Windows 7 ou Red Hat® Enterprise Linux 5 ainsi que le pilote du

● Adaptec MaxIQ : logiciel de mise en cache sur SSD (Solid State Drive)

pour les opérations basiques de gestion de piles et de configurations

Étape 1 Installation du contrôleur
Attention : Les décharges électrostatiques (ESD) peuvent endommager
votre contrôleur. Veuillez respecter les recommandations anti-ESD standard
pour éviter d'exposer le contrôleur à une charge d'électricité statique.
aSi vous disposez d'un contrôleur et d'un boîtier système au format compact,
remplacez le support de fixation pleine hauteur d'origine de la carte
contrôleur par le support de fixation demi-hauteur contenu dans le kit.
bÉteignez l'ordinateur et débranchez le câble d'alimentation.
cOuvrez le boîtier. Reportez-vous aux instructions du constructeur si
nécessaire.
dInsérez la carte contrôleur dans un logement PCIe disponible et compatible
avec votre contrôleur, puis fixez le support de contrôleur au châssis.
eFacultatif — Connectez le câble du voyant d'activité des disques de votre
ordinateur au connecteur LED du contrôleur (selon modèle). Reliez le fil
positif à la broche 1.
fFacultatif — Raccordez le connecteur I2C du contrôleur (selon modèle) à un
connecteur I2C d'un boîtier ou fond de panier / boîtier SAS/SATA interne.
Utilisez un câble I2C (généralement fourni avec le fond de panier).
gInstallez et raccordez les disques durs (HDD) / SSD internes à l'aide du/des
câble(s) approprié(s), puis refermez le boîtier de l'ordinateur.
Remarque : Pour créer une pile RAID 1, vous devez installer deux disques
durs. Pour créer un système RAID 5, vous devez installer au moins trois
disques.
hLe cas échéant, connectez les câbles et les disques / SSD externes au
contrôleur.
●Avant de raccorder un câble au contrôleur, assurez-vous que l’autre
extrémité du câble est déjà connectée à au moins un disque. Veillez à
respecter cette consigne pour éviter tout fonctionnement instable.
●Utilisez des câbles de bonne qualité (les câbles de qualité médiocre sont
moins fiables).

Étape 2 Création d’une pile RAID
Des piles RAID 1 et RAID 5 sont utilisées ici à titre d’exemple. Créez une pile
RAID 1 si votre contrôleur ne prend pas en charge le système RAID 5. Vous
pouvez créer une pile d'un autre niveau en procédant de la même manière.
aAllumez l'ordinateur, puis, à l'invite, appuyez sur Ctrl+A pour ouvrir
l'utilitaire de configuration BIOS. L'écran présentant les options de menu
s'affiche.
Remarque : Si vous avez installé plusieurs contrôleurs de même type,
sélectionnez votre contrôleur et appuyez sur Entrée.
bSélectionnez Array Configuration Utility, puis appuyez sur Entrée. Le menu
ACU s'affiche.
cSélectionnez Initialiser les Disques, puis appuyez sur Entrée.
dSélectionnez au moins trois disques pour une pile RAID 5 ou deux pour une
pile RAID 1. Appuyez sur Insérer pour chaque disque dur sélectionné, puis
appuyez sur Entrée.
eAppuyez sur y, puis sur Entrée. Les disques sélectionné sont initialisés, puis le
menu ACU s'affiche à l'écran.
Avertissement : L'initialisation des disques supprime toutes les
données stockées sur les disques. Sauvegardez les données que vous
voulez conserver avant d'initialiser les disques.
fSélectionnez Créer une pile, puis appuyez sur Entrée.
gSélectionnez les disques durs que vous venez d'initialiser et appuyez sur
Insérer pour chaque disque dur sélectionné, puis appuyez sur Entrée.

hSur l'écran Array Properties, procédez comme suit:
iLorsqu'un message d'avertissement relatif à la mémoire cache apparaît,
tapez Y.
jUne fois la pile créée, un message apparaît vous indiquant que vous pouvez
désormais utiliser la pile. Appuyez sur n’importe quelle touche pour
retourner dans le menu de l’utilitaire ACU.
Remarque : Si vous pouvez déjà commencer à utiliser la pile, le niveau de
performance est réduit tant que vous n'êtes pas allé au terme de la
procédure de création.
kAppuyez sur Echap jusqu'à ce que la fenêtre Exit Utility apparaisse.
lSélectionnez Oui, puis appuyez de nouveau sur Entrée. L'ordinateur
redémarre.
Étape 3 Configuration de la séquence de
démarrage
La procédure à appliquer pour accéder au programme de configuration du BIOS
de votre ordinateur et définir la séquence de démarrage varie selon le construc-
teur. Reportez-vous aux instructions fournies avec votre ordinateur. La procé-
dure à suivre peut être similaire à celle décrite ci-après :
aPendant le démarrage, appuyez sur la combinaison de touches voulue (par
exemple, <F2>, <F1>, <DEL>) pour lancer le programme de configuration
du BIOS.
Array Type Sélectionnez RAID 5 ou RAID 1, puis appuyez sur
Entrée.
Array Label Tapez un nom, puis appuyez sur Entrée.
Array Size Appuyez sur Entrée, puis appuyez de nouveau sur
Entrée pour utiliser la granularité en Go par défaut.
Stripe Size Appuyez sur Entrée pour utiliser la valeur par défaut
(256 Ko).
Read Caching Appuyez sur Entrée pour utiliser le paramètre par
défaut (Oui).
Write Caching Appuyez sur Entrée pour utiliser le paramètre par
défaut (Enable always).
Create RAID via Appuyez sur Entrée pour utiliser le paramètre par
défaut (Build/Verify).
[Done] Appuyez sur Entrée.
