Introduction
Your ADE electronic column scale is a quality, sturdy and durable product manufactured in accordance with
national regulations in Germany.
ADE instruction manuals have prepared to provide the user with all the necessary knowledge about the safe
use of ADE scales and their related accessories.
For further questions about how to use the products or about this or other operating manuals, please contact

In order to achieve the best possible results kindly read and follow the operation manual in all respects.
Basic safety precautions
Kindly follow the safety instructions in this operating manual, the country-specific installation
standards as well as the applicable safety conditions and accident prevention regulations in all
aspects.
The usage and maintenance of the scale is to be done only by trained personnel.
The voltage and power supply as mentioned on the type plate must match the mains voltage and
power type at the place of use.
Remove the mains plug before cleaning the unit.
Do not operate the unit in hazardous or unstable conditions.
Hazard-free operation is no longer guaranteed
if the mains adapter shows visible damage.
if the mains adapter is no longer working.
after longer periods of storage in damp rooms.
Inform your service partner in such cases for your own safety.
Mains adapters or batteries other than those supplied by the manufacturer may not be used.
There is otherwise a risk of influencing other electrical devices/equipment!
The connecting cable between the scales and mains adapter must be laid in such a way that
they do not present a trip hazard.

Operating instructions
Set up of the scale
Remove the packaging material, take all parts out of the box and turn the weighing platform around. Screw
each leveling foot into its thread underneath the scale and place the batteries into the battery compartment,
see page 6 diagram (‘Weighing platform from underneath’), connect the connection cable with its plug to the
present cable in the weighing platform. Follow diagram ‘Assembly’ for correct alignment of the column. Lay
down the scale in a horizontal position and fix the column to the base by using mounting screw ‘A’with the
supplied allen key.
Turn the scale upright and fix the display mounting plate on the top side of the column by using mounting
screw ‘B’and the supplied allen key.
Connect the display to the connection cable with the present cable in the display unit.
Mount the display on the display holder plate by using the supplied two mounting screws..
Place the scale on a flat and firm surface. To level the scale, use the leveling feet. The spirit level helps to
indicate a level position of the scale. The scale is now ready for use.

Power supply
The scale is operated either by 4 x AA 1,5V alkaline batteries or by the mains. Turn the scale around and open
the battery compartment. Insert the enclosed AA alkaline batteries. Please observe the correct polarity as
shown inside the battery compartment.
For mains operations connect the supplied 6,0V 1,0A AC/DC adaptor to the power socket underneath the
scale.
The Auto-off function will turn off the scale when operated on batteries after 90 sec. When operated on mains
after 7 min.
Replace the batteries when „Lo“ is being displayed. It indicates low battery power or use the mains connec-
tion.

Turning
During operation this key is being used to turn around the displayed figures. Second function
of this key is to switch the scale on.
Use this key in BMI mode to switch between the numbers downwards.
UNIT
Press in order to switch the units between kg and lb
Use this key in BMI mode to switch between the numbers upwards.

Operation
Correct weighing
Under regular operation the scale is switched on either by the “tap on function” or by pressing the
“ “on button.
A short function test comes up and ‘0.00’ appears in the display. The scale is now ready for use.
Step on the platform and avoid movements.
The scale automatically switches off after a period of 90 seconds if not in use, when operated on
batteries.
Turning function
Allows the ready of the display values either from the patient or user side.
How to change the unit
The scale offers the possibility to select between the weighing mode kg and lb. For changing the mode press
the “UNIT” key at the display.
Tare function
The tare function allows ignoring an additional weight placed on the scale.
Start the scale
Place any additional weight on the platform of the weighing scale and press the key.
The display will flash for a short time and will show ‘0.00’. The Net symbol will come up on the
display.
You can remove the additional weight from the platform. The tared weight is being displayed as
negative value.
Step on the platform together with the additional weight.
The scale determines the weight of the patient without the additional weight. You may now use
the scale for as many weighing procedures and the stored value will always be deducted as long
as the scale is not turned off.
To chancel the tare mode press the tare button again or wait until the scale is switched off.
Hold and auto-hold function
The Hold function is being used to keep the weighing results displayed after the weight/load has been re-
moved from the scale. The scale will remember the last setting after switch off and will start in this mode.
Press the HOLD button to activate or deactivate the hold function.
“HOLD” is being displayed on the display.
The weight remains frozen in the display for 90 seconds after unloading the scale.
To deactivate the Hold function press again the HOLD key.

Mother and child weighing function
Start up the scale with no weight on it and wait until ‘0.00’ is displayed.
Press mother and child weighing function key. The mother and child symbol will be displayed.
Step on the platform without holding a child and avoid movements.
The scale will show the weight. When stable, the scale will fully automatically memorize the weight
and will switch to ‘0.00’. The ‘Net’symbol is flashing in the display.
You can take now a child in your arms and the weight of the child will be displayed only. To do this,
you can step off the scale or an assistant can reach the child to you, while standing on the scale.
The weight is automatically stabilized and the net sign will be shown permanently.
When weighing a group of children, please ensure that always the same person takes the child stand-
ing on the scale and avoid any weight changes of the person.
BMI (Body Mass Index)
The Body Mass Index is the ratio between height and weight values. The BMI is accepted world wide –also by
WHO. The result is a tolerance value.
Start the scale by tapping on the platform of the scale or by pressing the on “ “ button.
Step on the scale and press the BMI key shortly.
The scale starts automatically with the last input. Use the arrow buttons to enter the height of the
person. Press the enter key to confirm the values.
The BMI is now being calculated and displayed in the upper left display segment.
To get back into normal weighing mode and leave the BMI simply step off the platform and wait for 60
seconds or press the BMI key when using the auto-hold function.
Evaluation of the Body Mass Index
Compare the determined value which corresponds to those being used by the WHO.
BMI below 18,5
The patient is under the regular standard
and does not got enough weight. An in-
crease of weight is recommended. Please
consult a professional.
BMI between 18,5 and 24,9
The patient got a normal weight. If he feels
well there is no need for a change.
BMI between 25 and 30
The patient is slightly overweighed to pre-obese. A reduction of weight is indicated or, is necessary if
the state of health is already affected (e.g. diabetes, high end blood pressure, heart diseases).
BMI over 30
Reduction of weight is imperative. To visit a doctor is highly recommended.

Cleaning and Maintenance
Cleaning
Before cleaning disconnect the scale from the mains socket. For cleaning just use a damp cloth or common
disinfection fluids. Do not use any aggressive cleaning fluids, abrasive or acid cleaners or white spirits. Ensure
that no cleaning fluid or water gets into the scale and always follow the instruction of the manufacturer.
Waste disposal
Used electrical equipment and batteries do not belong in the domestic waste.
Please dispose of defective or used equipment and batteries according to the legal regula-
tions applicable in your specific country!
Please make sure that only discharged batteries or batteries with insulated "poles" are dis-
posed of as otherwise they may short-circuit!
Storage and transport
Please keep all original parts and pieces for an eventual sending back of the scale in order to avoid any possi-
ble damage during transport, which automatically leads to loss of warranty.
Disconnect all cables before transport and avoid unnecessary damages and switch the scale off at the back
side of the scale.

Warranty
A two year warranty period from date of purchase will be guaranteed for either repair or replacement once it is
proven that the defects are caused by poor material or poor workmanship (please keep the receipt for presen-
tation). All moveable parts such as batteries, cables, plug-in power supply units, rechargeable batteries etc.
are excluded. Warranty does not apply to normal appearance of usage or sign of wear or any damages
caused by accidents or misuse. Eventual warranty- or liability claims are subject to using the original ADE
accessories or spare parts. Products which have been opened by unauthorized persons are automatically out
of warranty.
Customers abroad are requested to contact their local dealers in the event of any warranty becoming applica-
ble.
CE-marking and Declaration of Conformity
ADE products are manufactured as per the standards applicable of the actual European norms and directives
to produce and offer world-wide products at the latest technical standard and with a long lifetime.
