AMAX-4870 Startup Manual 1
Before installation, check that the following items are
included in the shipment:
• 1 x AMAX-4870 EtherCAT junction
• 2 x Terminal blocks (see Specifications for more details)
• 1 x AMAX-4870 startup manual

distributor or sales representative immediately.
For more detailed information about this product, download
the latest user manual from the Advantech website.
The configuration data of an EtherCAT slave module is
stored in an EtherCAT slave information (ESI) file. Vari-
ous EtherCAT communication settings can be defined
from the ESI files of connected slave units as well the
network connection information. ESI files are saved to
the configuration tool to facilitate network configuration.
The network configuration data can be downloaded to the
EtherCAT master unit for configuring EtherCAT networks.
The AMAX-4870 ESI file can be downloaded from the
Advantech website.

6-Port EtherCAT Junction Slave Module
Startup Manual
AMAX-4870 is a 6-port EtherCAT junction slave module that
supports flexible wiring configurations in line, tree, and star
topologies, allowing EtherCAT systems to remain opera-
tional in the event of a machine error requiring a shutdown.
The AMAX-4870 module can also enhance debugging
and maintenance efficiency for optimum performance.
Furthermore, AMAX-4870 has been verified by the Ether-
CAT Conformance Test Tool and can support most third-
party master modules (TwinCAT, CODESYS, and Acontis).

1. Download the AMAX-4870 user manual and ESI file
from the Advantech website.
2. Import the ESI file to create an EtherCAT network
information (ENI) file using either
- Advantech Common Motion Utility
(with a PCI-1203 EtherCAT master card)
- Other EtherCAT master software
(such as TwinCAT or Acontis)
3. Use the master utility to test AMAX-4870.

This equipment has been tested and found to comply with

equipment generates, uses, and can radiate radio frequency

This product has passed the CE test for environmen-
tal specifications when shielded cables are used for
external wiring. We recommend the use of shield-
ed cables. Advantech does provide shielded cables.

AMAX-4870 features two power input terminals, an input
power range of 10 ~ 30 VDC, and power redundancy sup-
port. For modules connected to two power input sources,
if one source is inactive or interrupted, the other power
source can take over immediately. The AMAX-4870 junc-
tion module can operate with only a single power source.
