1 Basic Information
1.1 User manual notes
The InnuPure C16 UV lamp is intended for operation by qualified specialist personnel ob-
serving this user manual.
The user manual informs about the design and operation of the UV lamp for the InnuPure
C16 and provides personnel familiar with the isolation and purification of nucleic acid the
necessary know-how for the safe handling of the UV lamp. The user manual further includes
notes on the maintenance and service of the UV lamp and potential causes and remedies of
any faults.
User manual conventions
Instructions for action which occur in chronological order are numbered and combined into
action units and furnished with the corresponding results.
Lists which are not in chronological order are shown as itemized lists, sub-listings as bullet
points.
Safety notes are indicated by pictographs and signal words. The type and source of the
danger are stated together with notes on preventing the danger. The meaning of the picto-
graphs and signal words used is explained in the chapter "Safety notes".
1.2 Intended use
The UV lamp is an optional accessory for the InnuPure C16 and is used for the internal con-
tamination. The InnuPure C16 is a flexible and efficient extraction system for the fully auto-
mated isolation and purification of nucleic acid in chemical and biological laboratories. In the
field of medicine and diagnostics its use is limited to research.
The UV lamp for the InnuPure C16 must only be used for the applications described in this
instruction manual. The manufacturer does not accept liability for any other use, including
that of any individual modules or components.
The UV lamp must only be operated by qualified and trained personnel.
The UV lamp must only be used in accordance with this instruction manual. This
applies in particular to the adherence to the connection values, conditions of use
and notes on maintenance, service, transport and disposal.
The safety notices in this instruction manual must be observed.
It is not permissible
to use the UV lamp outside the InnuPure C16
to use the UV lamp when the front door of the InnuPure C16 is open.
The operator is responsible for the use of the equipment as intended

1.3 Warranty and liability
The warranty and liability period comply with the legal requirements and the provisions in the
general terms and conditions of Analytik Jena AG.
Deviations from the intended use described in this user manual result in limitations of war-
ranty and liability during a damage event. Damage to wearing parts is not included in the
warranty.
Warranty and liability claims are excluded for personal injury and property damage due to
one or several of the following causes:
usage of the UV lamp for the InnuPure C16 not according to the intended purpose
improper commissioning, operation and service of the UV lamp
modifications of the UV lamp without prior consultation with Analytik Jena AG
unauthorized handling inside the UV lamp
operation of the UV lamp with faulty safety equipment or improperly fitted safety
and protection equipment
inadequate monitoring of the equipment components subject to wear
use of other than original spare parts or wearing parts
improper repairs
faults due to the non-observance of this user manual

3 Safety instructions
3.1 General notes
For your own safety and to ensure an error-free and safe operation of the UV lamp for the
InnuPure C16, please read this chapter carefully before using the appliance.
Follow all safety instructions described in this user manual.
You must also comply with the safety instructions and the information concerning handling,
storage and disposal of the InnuPure C16.
Besides the safety instructions in this user manual and the local safety regulations that apply
to the operation of the device, the general applicable regulations regarding accident preven-
tion, occupational health and safety and environmental protection have to be observed and
complied with.
References to potential dangers do not replace the work protection regulations which must
be observed.
3.2 Symbols and signal words used in the user manual
The user manual uses the following symbols and signal words to indicate hazards or instruc-
tions. The safety instructions are always placed before an action.
CAUTION
Indicates a potentially hazardous situation which might result in light or minor injuries and
material damage if not prevented.
ATTENTION
Indicates a potentially hazardous situation which,

3.3 Safety marks of the UV lamp for the InnuPure C16
Safety and notice symbols have been attached to the UV lamp for the InnuPure C16 whose
content must always be observed.
Damaged or missing safety and notice symbols can cause incorrect actions leading to per-
sonal injury or material damage! The symbol labels must not be removed! Damaged symbol
labels must be replaced without delay!

3.4 Technical condition
The UV lamp for the InnuPure C16 corresponds in its design and construction to the current
state of the art technology. Unauthorized modifications or changes, especially such that af-
fect the safety of the staff and the environment, are generally not allowed.
The operator must only operate the UV lamp in a sound and operationally safe
condition. The technical condition must always comply with the legal requirements
and regulations.
Prior to every use, the UV lamp must be checked for damage and sound condition.
Any changes in the UV lamp affecting its safety must be reported by the operating
personnel to the operator without delay.
3.5 Requirements for the operating personnel
The UV lamp for the InnuPure C16 must only be commissioned, operated and ser-
viced by trained personnel instructed in technical safety.
The operation or servicing of the UV lamp by minors or individuals under the influ-
ence of alcohol, drugs or medication is not permitted.
It must be ensured that only authorized personnel works at the UV lamp.
The operating personnel must be familiar with the dangers arising from the sub-
stances used inside the InnuPure C16. The appropriate protective equipment must
be used.
3.6 Safety instructions for transport and installation
Only transport the UV lamp in its original packaging! Ensure that the UV lamp has
cooled down, cleaned and decontaminated before transport.
The UV lamp for the InnuPure C16 may only be put into operation by service per-
sonnel of Analytik Jena AG or by persons authorized by Analytik Jena AG.
To prevent health damage the following must be observed when moving the UV
lamp in the laboratory (lifting and carrying):
– Prevention of bumping or falling down since this could result in damage of the
device or destruction of the illuminant. Beware of glass breakage.

3.7 Safety instructions for operation
The operator of the UV lamp for the InnuPure C16 must make sure that the condi-
tion of the device including the safety equipment is sound before each commission-
ing. This applies in particular after each modification or extension of the UV lamp or
its repair.
The UVB lamp must only be operated if all protective equipments (fuse) are in
place, properly installed and fully operational.
Free access to the mains plug in the power outlet must be ensured during opera-
tion.
The UV lamp for the InnuPure C16 must not be removed from the device in
switched-on state. The illumination area of the lamp must not be touched after
switching off the lamp. Otherwise, the user might be burned (max. 60 °C).
The mains plug must only be plugged into a power outlet with protective ground
connection. The UV lamp may only be connected to power sources whose nominal
voltage is the same as that on the nameplate of the equipment. The protective ef-
fect must not be invalidated by the use of an extension line which does not have a
protective conductor.
Do not introduce any objects into the UV lamp and prevent fluids from entering the
UV lamp through openings or gaps.
Do not short-circuit the UV lamp and only use the fuse in accordance with the
specifications in the technical data.
3.8 Handling hazardous substances
Even with intended use there is a risk of health damage when handling hazardous substanc-
es. The operator is solely responsible for the compliance with all safety requirements to pro-
tect individuals and property when handling radioactive, infectious, toxic, caustic, flammable
and other hazardous substances.
Control the handling of hazardous substances in accordance with the safety cate-
gory of the lab, the details in the manufacturer safety data sheets and additional
national and international regulations (WHO, "Laboratory Biosafety Manual").
Wear personal protective equipment when working at the UV lamp.
Observe all notices on the cleaning and decontamination of the UV lamp.
3.9 Chemical resistance of the device
Aggressive substances may damage the device. Although the materials used are resistant to
most of the commonly used substances, material damage from aggressive substances may
not be precluded.
Before using any aggressive substances (e.g. acids, bases or organic solutions),
check whether the materials in direct contact with the substances are resistant to
them.
Only use substances compatible with the materials listed.

The housing parts of the UV lamp are not resistant to the following substances:
 hydrogen fluoride (HF/hydrofluoric
acid)
highly concentrated acids
cleaning powder
paint thinner
naphtha
 gasoline
acetone
cleaning spray
ozone
3.10 Behavior during emergencies
Immediately unplug the mains plug from the mains outlet in situations of danger or
in the event of accidents!
Because a rapid response can save lives during an emergency, the following has to be en-
sured:
The operating staff must be familiar with the location of safety equipment, accident
and danger alarms as well as first aid and rescue equipment as well as their han-
dling.
The operator is responsible for the respective training of the operating staff.
All equipment for first aid (first-aid kit, eyewash bottles, stretcher, etc.) as well as
equipment for firefighting (fire extinguishers) must be within reach and easy to ac-
cess. All equipment has to be in a sound condition and should be checked regular-
ly.
3.11 Standards and directives
The UV lamp was manufactured according to the currently valid technology regulations and
the approved safety related regulations.
When constructing the UV lamp, the relevant safety and health requirements of the applica-
ble laws, standards and regulations were applied. The safety of the device is confirmed by
the CE mark and the declaration of conformity.
Information regarding safety corresponds to the currently valid regulations of the European
Union. In other countries the applicable laws and country specific regulations have to be
complied with.
Besides the safety instructions in this user manual and the local safety regulations that apply
to the operation of the device the general applicable regulations regarding accident preven-
tion, occupational health and safety and environmental protection have to be observed and
complied with.
References to potential dangers do not replace the work protection regulations which must
be observed.

4 Technical description
4.1 Fundamental layout and function
The UV lamp is an optional accessory for an easy decontamination of the interior of the In-
nuPure C16 extraction systems after a purification of nucleic acids by means of UV radiation.
The InnuPure C16 is a flexible and efficient extraction system for the fully automated isola-
tion and purification of nucleic acid.
Working with molecular biological technologies often requires a contamination-free work-
place. UV sterilization lamps provide protection against possible contamination in research
laboratories, food-production enterprises, or in medical environments.
The installed UV lamp emits maximum UV radiation with a wavelength of 254°nm what is
very effective for the destruction of bacteria, fungi, yeasts, and viruses In addition, the UV
lamp denatures unwanted DNA and RNA inside the InnuPure C16.

4.2 Design, connections, indications
Beside the mains connection, the device front provides the button to switch on the UV lamp.
During operation of the UV lamp, the green status LED is lit. The time relay for setting the
operation time is located on the right side of the device. The factory setting is 30 minutes. A
safety switch for monitoring the device environment is located on the left side of the device.
The switch monitors the position of the UV lamp inside the InnuPure C16 and unlocks the
time relay at contact of the particular interior wall of the device.

5 Site requirements
5.1 Installation conditions
The following requirements apply to the climatic conditions in the operating room of the UV
lamp (corresponding to those of the InnuPure C16):
Temperature range: +5 °C to +35 °C
Max. humidity: 80 % at 30 °C
5.2 Space requirement
The space requirement results from the device dimensions:
W x H x D 240 mm x 120 mm x 410 mm
The UV lamp is moved through the opening in the door of the InnuPure C16. The UV lamp
can slid into the lower level of the priming station of the InnuPure C16 for storage purposes.
CAUTION!
Before sliding the UV lamp into the InnuPure C16, the tray has to be removed from the ex-
traction device and the InnuPure C16 must be switched off!
Due to danger of tipping, the storage of the UV lamp on the upper level of the priming station
of the InnuPure C16 is only possible when the upper rear stopper plate is removed! After
removing the rear stopper, the front stopper can be slid into the priming station.
5.3 Energy supply
WARNING!
The UV lamp for the InnuPure C16 must only be connected to a properly grounded mains
outlet in accordance with the voltage specifications on the type plate!
The UV lamp for the InnuPure C16 is operated on single-phase alternating current. The in-
stallation of the electrical equipment of the laboratory must comply with the standard DIN
VDE 0100. After the connection point, an electrical current in accordance with the standard
IEC 38 must be available.

6 Startup/operation
CAUTION!
The InnuPure C16 must be switched off before the UV lamp is inserted and the door of the
InnuPure C16 must be closed. The UV lamp must be completely slid into the InnuPure C16
before the mains plug may be connected to the mains socket.
CAUTION! Danger of short-circuit from condensate!
If the storage and the installation temperature differ a lot, wait until the UV lamp has adapted
to the new ambient temperature before connecting it in order to prevent damages to the de-
vice by condensation water.
IMPORTANT
Retain the transport packaging! Return transport for service must be in the original packag-
ing. This alone prevents transport damage.
6.1 Switching on the UV lamp for the InnuPure C16
1. Remove the tray from the InnuPure C16 and switch off the InnuPure C16.
2. Set the desired operating time via the time relay (see chapter "Setting the operating
time of the UV lamp with the time relay" p. 15).
3. Make sure the door of the InnuPure C16 is closed before inserting the UV lamp. Com-
pletely slide the UV lamp into the InnuPure C16 until the stop of the rear of the front
plate.
4. Connect the mains plug to the UV lamp and to the mains socket.
5. Switch on the UV lamp via the front button and check whether the UV lamp gives light.
Note:
Monitor the settings of the operating time via the time relay!

The status LED is lit green during the set operating time.

6.2 Switching off the UV lamp for the InnuPure C16
1. Wait until the set operating time has elapsed and the UV lamp is switched off.

The green status LED at the front of the UV lamp turns off when the set oper-
ating time of the time relay has elapsed.
2. Disconnect the mains plug from the UV lamp and the mains socket.
3. Remove the UV lamp from the InnuPure C16.
CAUTION! Warming of the housing in the illumination area!
Depending on the operating time, the housing of the UV lamp may be heated up to 60° in the
illumination area.
6.3 Setting the operating time of the UV lamp with the time relay
Depending on the coding of the DIP switches (1, 2, 3), the operating time of the UV lamp can
be set with the dial. The time can be set from 0.05 s to 100 h. As an example, the table dis-
plays all possible codings for four setting values of the time relay. The factory setting of the
operating time is 30 min.

7 Maintenance and care
The UV lamp is largely maintenance-free. Care and maintenance work is restricted to clean-
ing/disinfecting the device and changing the fuse.
CAUTION!
The device cover must only be opened by the technical customer service of Analytik Jena
AG or its authorized agency. Before opening the device cover, disconnect the mains plug!
When an exchange of the illuminant is necessary, please contact the Analytik Jena service
or its representatives.
7.1 Cleaning the UV lamp for the InnuPure C16
CAUTION! Danger of electric shock!
Before cleaning the device with disinfection agents, disconnect the mains plug from the
mains socket!
The UV lamp must only be recommissioned once it is completely dry!
Clean the UV lamp as follows:
If the InnuPure C16 is used for the analysis of infectious material, great care must
be taken. Contaminations may be transferred to the UV lamp via the guide rails.
Visible contamination inside the InnuPure C16 must be removed immediately using
suitable detergents, making sure that no solvent enters the inside of the device.
The contact areas between UV lamp and interior of the InnuPure C16 must be
cleaned and disinfected with appropriate disinfection cloths.
As a possible disinfection agent we recommend
Meliseptol HBV – cloths B. Braun company
If the UV lamp of an InnuPure C16 has to be sent to Analytik Jena AG for service
after infectious material has been processed with it, a prior decontamination must
be carried out and documented.

7.2 Changing the fuse
CAUTION! Electric shock!
Disconnect the mains plug before changing fuses!
If the fuse of the UV lamp is faulty, you can replace it. The fuse holder comprises an addi-
tional fuse for the first exchange.
1. Disconnect the mains plug from the mains socket.
2. Open the fuse holder by pulling its cover.
3. Replace the faulty mains fuse (rear fuse). Use the following fuse:
1 x T 160 mA; 250 V
4. Close the fuse holder.
5. Dismantle the UV lamp as described in section "Startup/operation" p. 14.
