Chapter 1 About this Guide
This is the installation manual for the bintec M2/M2L routers and contains information on how to correctly install the
device in a working environment.
1.1 Supported devices
The information contained in this manual specifically pertains to the bintec M2 router family.
1.2 Who should read this manual?
This manual should be read by support personnel who are responsible for configuring, maintaining, and monitoring
the device.
1.3 When should this manual be read?
Please refer to this guide once you are ready to acquaint yourself with the device and its various components.
This manual aims to provide you with a deeper understanding of your new device.

tions, along with relevant information about each component, can be found in the corresponding chapter.

2.1 Models
The bintec M2 comes with two different operating system (OS) versions, CIT and OSDX.

2.2.1 Power supply
If you would like more information on the various power supplies available for the bintec M2, please refer to Com-
ponents and Power Supply on page 6, Power source on page 14.
2.2.2 Hardware monitoring
The LEDs located on the front panel of the bintec M2 router family are employed for hardware monitoring purposes.
These LEDs serve as visual indicators that display relevant information about the device's status and the condition of
its hardware components. They convey whether there is connectivity, data flow, and other related details.

3.1 Components
3.1.1 Front panel
Please refer to the figure below for the front panel layout, where you will find the majority of the connectors used in
the bintec M2 router family.

Furthermore, the front panel features LEDs that correspond to the LAN and WAN Ethernet interfaces.

Yellow Connected to 10/100 M:
- Steady: Not transferring data.
- Blinking: Transferring data.
Yellow + Green Connected to 1000 M:
- Steady: Not transferring data.
- Blinking: Transferring data.

Additionally, the bintec M2 router family is equipped with a pair of status LEDs:

WLAN Tricolor Green -> Some client connected and registered in one of two ra-
dios. Blinking: Transferring data.
Amber -> Interface enabled.
Red -> Interface down.

3.1.4 Underside panel

3.2 Mounting an anti-theft security cable
The bintec M2 router family comes with a standard Kensington security slot, allowing you to attach a security cable
for extra protection. By using the T-bar lock of the security cable, you can easily fasten the device to an anchor point,
effectively deterring any potential theft.
You'll find the security slot conveniently placed on the front panel of the router's housing, as shown in the following
figure:

3.3 Installation
3.3.1 Standalone
The bintec M2 router family is designed to be placed on any flat and stable surface, functioning perfectly as a stan-
dalone device.
To ensure proper functioning, it is important to provide sufficient space around the router for ventilation. Additionally,
make sure that the power cord and data cables can be easily connected to the device.
It is advised to consider the working environment conditions. Here are the key characteristics to keep in
mind:
• Avoid placing the router in areas with high humidity or dust accumulation.

• Direct exposure to sunlight and other heat sources should be avoided. It is recommended not to position the router
in close proximity to papers, magazines or objects that may impede natural air circulation.
• Keep the router at a distance from strong electromagnetic fields, such as speakers or engines, to prevent interfer-
ence.
• During transport, operation and storage, it is crucial to prevent shocks and strong vibrations that may disrupt the
router's performance.
3.3.2 Wall mounting
The bintec M2 router family has two slots on its underside that can be used for wall mounting.
We recommend using the following accessories, suitable for both solid and Gypsum board (plaster) walls:
• 2 screws: [3.5x30 mm coach screw with a 90-degree head angle].

• 2 wall anchors: [8 mm diameter white ribbed wall anchor].

Warning
When installing, make sure the wall mounting height is less than 2 meters.
Warning
The screws should be inserted into a wall stud (wood) or a suitable wall anchor, as drywall alone is not
strong enough to support the router.
Warning
Before drilling any holes, check for hidden pipes and cables to avoid damaging electrical, gas, water or
sewage systems, which could result in serious consequences, including death or property damage.
Choose an installation location with minimal obstacles or electrical appliances that could interfere with
the connection.
Note
The screws and anchors are not provided with the router.

To mount the router on a wall or any other surface, please follow these steps:
Procedure
Step 1. Install the two screws (3.5x30 mm) horizontally on the desired wall or vertical surface. Make sure they are in-
stalled 116.5 mm (4.56 inches) apart.
The screws should protrude 6 mm (0.25 inch) from the surface of the wall.
Warning
If you are mounting the screws onto drywall, it is recommended to use hollow-wall anchors (8 mm –
5/16 inch) to ensure the screws are securely fastened. Without proper anchoring, the strain from the
cables connected to the router's back panel could potentially cause the router to detach from the wall.
Step 2. Hang the router onto the screws.
3.3.3 19'' Rack installation
The bintec M2 router family can be easily installed in a 19” rack.
Note
The rack mount kit, consisting of strips and screws, is not included with the router and needs to be pur-
chased separately.

Both strips can be secured to the device using 4 screws, as shown in figure below:

Note
The router chassis of the Teldat M2 has been designed for brackets to be attached either in the front or
rear.
3.4 Power source
To power the bintec M2 router family, you will need to use an external AC/DC power adapter.

Note
Please keep in mind that the specific model of the power supply unit (PSU) delivered with the device
may vary. For more details on the PSU models, please refer to PSU energy efficiency on page 25
Warning
It is important to use the power supply provided by the manufacturer when operating the equipment.
To power up the router, connect the power supply to both the mains supply and the DC connector.

3.5 RST button
Here are the different functions of the RST button:

3.5.1 Rebooting the device
Pressing the RST button while the device is operating normally will initiate a restart.
3.5.2 Default configuration
Follow these steps to use the RST button and restore the device to its default configuration:
• With the device powered off, press and hold the RESET button until the device powers on.
• The PWR (green) light will illuminate and the WLAN LED will start blinking in yellow. This blinking will continue for
10 seconds.
• To boot the device with the default configuration, release the Reset button while the WLAN LED is still blinking
(before the 10-second limit elapses).
After the default configuration is established, the router will have the following access IP address and mask:
• IP address: 192.168.0.254
• IP mask: 255.255.255.0
Note
Some devices may have customized settings when they leave the factory, so the default configuration
of your router (and that of the embedded access point, if applicable) may differ from what is shown
above.
