line.ExcessiveRENsonthetelephonelinemayresultinthedevicesnotringinginresponsetoanincomingcall.Inmost,but
notallareas,thesum of theRENs shouldnotexceedfive(5).To ascertainof the numberof devices thatmaybeconnectedto
theline,asdeterminedbytheRENs,contactthetelephonecompanytodeterminethemaximumRENforthecallingarea.

2.3 Standard Features
2.3.1 Points
TheBoschSecuritySystemsD6412ControlPanelprovidesupto40separatepointsofprotection(24fortheD4412panel).
Pointprogrammingparametersdeterminethepanel’s responsetoopenandshortedconditionsonthepoint’ssensorloop.
Pointsareprogrammedindividuallywithseveraloptionstocustomizetheprotectiontoyourinstallation.Thereareeight
sensor loops available on the panel (for on-board points). Off-board point locations can be standard wired sensor loops
(DX2010PointExpander)orpremisesRFtransmitters(premisesRFreceiverisrequired).The40pointsof protectionforthe
D6412(24pointsfortheD4412)canbelocatedonanycombinationofwiredandRFlocations.
2.3.2 Areas and Accounts
The system supports up to four separate areas for the D6412 and up to two separate areas for the D4412.You can assign all
pointsto a single area or spread them out over a maximumof two or four areas, model dependent.
You arm and disarm the panel by are.You can arm and disarm several areas with one function.You can also assign a
passcodeanauthoritylevelthatallowsausertoarmanareafromaremote command center in another area. Assigning each
areaitsownaccountnumbercreatesfour(D6412)ortwo(D4412)separateaccountsinonepanel.Assigningthesame
accountnumbertodifferentareasgroupsthemtogetherinasingleaccount.
Areaoptionsinclude:exittoneanddelay,separatefireandburglaryoutputs,andautoopeningandclosing skeds.Area1can
be programmed as a common area.A“First to Open,Last to Close”arming feature is available.

Thepanelusesabuilt-indigitalcommunicatortosendreportstothereceiver.IttransmitsreportsineitherModemIIIa²,
Contact ID, or Pager format.

turnthe area on.

1. Placethepanelmountingclipsontheappropriatestandoffintheenclosure(seeFigure2).
2. Slidethepanelintotheslotsatthetopoftheenclosureandthensecureitwiththetwoscrewsprovided
(seeFigure 2).
3. Connectearthgroundtothepanelbeforemakinganyotherconnections(seeSection3.4.1Connecting
Earth Ground).

3.5 Finishing the Installation
3.5.1 Earth Ground and Installer Switch
First,maketheearthgroundconnectionandclosetheInstallerSwitchifyouhavenotalreadydoneso.
Toreducetheoccurrenceoffalsealarmsupontogglingof theInstallerSwitch,thepanelignoresallpointfaultswhilethe
devicesstabilizeduringthesetupprocess.Thepanel’sstart-upprocesstakesapproximately60sec.tocomplete.Itoccursat
power-upandwhenthepanelresets(InstallerSwitchOPEN).SeeSection3.5.7 PowerUp andSection13.3.10Exitingthe
Installer’sMenuformoreinformation.Duringthisperiod,ascreenshowingthepanelmodelnumber(D6412orD4412),
firmwarerevision number,anda“PleaseWait...”message appearsfor approximately10 seconds.

3.5.2 Charge the Battery as You Finish
Connectthebatteryandthenthetransformersothatthepanelcan chargethebatteryasyoufinishtheinstallation.See
Section4.0 Power Supplyforinstructions.
Self-Diagnostics at Power Up and Reset: The system performs a series of self-diagnostic tests of its hardware, software, and
program at power up and at reset.They take about 60 sec. tocomplete. Command centers may display“System Fault”and
soundduringthepowerupandresetinterval.
Ifthepanelfailsanyofthe tests, a system trouble message appears at the commandcenters.
Touchthe EarthGroundTerminalFirst: To dischargeanystatic chargeyoumaybecarrying,alwaystouchthe panel’searth
groundterminalbeforebeginningworkonthepanel.
3.5.3 Install and Wire Detection Devices
Installandwiredetectiondevicesandcommandcentersattheirlocationsthroughoutthepremises.Donotmakethe
connectionsatthepanelendofthewiringyet.

Reconnectthebatteryandthenpluginthetransformer.
LeavetheInstallerSwitchintheCLOSEDpositionfornow.(SeeFigure3).Thefollowingsequenceof eventsoccurs:
1. “SystemFault”appearsonthetextcommandcenter(s)andallcommandcentersemitasingletonefor
approximately10seconds.
2. Ascreenshowingthepanelmodelnumber(D6412orD4412),firmwarerevisionnumberanda“Please
Wait...”message appears for approximately 10 seconds.
3. “Trouble! Press Cmd 4 toView”appears.Press the [CMD] and [4] keys.A new message appears:
Date/Timelost!Press5toset.”Pressthe[5]keytoentertheDate/Timewindowandsetaccordingly.
To reducethe occurrenceof false alarmsuponpanel power-up(or restorationof powerafter acomplete
lossof primary andsecondarypower),thepanel ignores allpointfaultsfor approximately 60sec.while
thedevices stabilize.Thisprocessis partof the panel’sstart-up process,and itoccursatpower-up.This
60-sec.periodbeginswhenthe“PleaseWait...”screenappears.
The“Trouble!PressCmd4toView”messagereappears,indicating thattheInstallerSwitchisclosed.To
return thesystemtonormal(disarmed,nofault/troubleconditions),opentheInstallerSwitch(unless
you are ready to program the panel).

3.6 Programming the Panel
Ifyouhavenotcreatedaprogramforthepanel,reviewtheD6412/D4412ProgramEntryGuide(P/N:45351).Makecertain
youhave alltherequired accessorymodulesinstalled forthefeaturesyou wanttouse.
Note: TheInstallerSwitchmustbeintheclosedpositiontoprogramthepanelfromakeypad.
You can enter your custom program at a textkeypad,or send it tothe panel from the RemoteAccount Manager (RAM IV).

3.8 Testing the System
Afterfinishingtheinstallationandprogrammingof thepanel,makeacompletefunctionaltestof thesystem.Testthepanel
and all devices for proper operation.Test after you first programthe panel and afteranysubsequentprogramming session.
WalkTest: Use theWalk Test (Cmd44)or thepoint testavailablein theInstallerMode toperform acompletetestof the
panel.SeeSection13.0Installer’sKeypadandInstallerMode.
Ifyoutestadeviceandthepaneldoesnotrespond,theremaybeaproblemwiththedevice,wiring,amodulesetting,or
programmingforthepoint.
ClearAfterTest:Toclearthe eventmemoryandreport buffer,momentarilyclosethe Installer Switch.Eventsstoredin the
panel’seventlogarenotcleared.

4.1 Primary Power
4.1.1 Primary (AC) Power Circuit
An18VAC,22VA internally fused transformer(BoschSecuritySystemsCX4010) istheprimary powersource.TheAC
powercircuitprovides700mAof rectifiedACpower.Thepanelreserves100mAofthispowerforinternaloperations,
leaving600mAforpowereddevices.
Transientsuppressorsandspark gapsprotectthe circuit frompowersurges.Thisprotectionreliesonthepanel’searth
groundconnection.Makesureyouconnecttheearthgroundterminaltoaproperground.SeeSection3.4.1Connecting
Earth Ground.
ThesystemindicatesanACpowerfailurewhenthepoweratthe terminalsmarked“18VAC”isinterrupted.Powermustbe
missingfor120sec.beforethepanelacknowledgesthefailure.Powermustbemaintainedatthoseterminalsfor120sec.
beforethepanelacknowledgestherestoralofpower.
4.1.2 Installing the Transformer
CAUTION
Shortingtheterminalsforprolongedperiodsoftimemaycausepermanentdamage.Connectthetransformertothe
panelterminalsbeforepluggingitintothepowersource.

Use 18AWG(1.2mm) (minimum)wiretoconnectthetransformerto thepanel.Wirelengthshould bekeptasshortas
possible.Themaximumlengthis15.2m(50feet).
ACwiringcaninducebothnoiseandlowlevelvoltageintoadjacentwiring.Routephoneandsensorloopwiringawayfrom
anyACconductors,includingthetransformerwire.Routedatawiring awayfromACandphonewiring.
Onlyplugthetransformerintoanunswitched,120VAC,60Hzpoweroutlet.Securethetransformertotheoutletwiththe
screwprovided.
4.2 Secondary Power
4.2.2 Installing the Battery
Placethebatteryuprightinthebaseoftheenclosure.Locatetheredandblackleadssuppliedintheliteraturepack.Pushone
connectorontheblackbatteryleadtopanel’s“Batt-”connector,andthenpushthelead’sotherconnectortothenegative(-)
sideof the battery.Pushone connectoronthe redbatteryleadtopanel’s‘Batt+’connector,andthenpushthelead’sother
connectorto thepositive(+)side of thebattery.
HighCurrentArcsPossible:Thepositive(red)batteryleadandthepanel’s“Batt+”connectorcancreatehigh
currentarcsifshortedtoterminalsortheenclosure.Usecautionwhenworkingwiththepositiveleadandthe
panel’s“Batt+.”Alwaysdisconnectthepositive(red)leadfromthebatterybeforeremovingitfromthepanel.
4.2.3 Replacement
BoschSecuritySystemsrecommendsbatteryreplacementeverythreetofiveyearsundernormaluse.Exceedingthe
maximumoutputratings,orinstallingthetransformerinanoutletthatisroutinelyswitchedoff,causesheavydischarges.
Routineheavydischargescanleadtopremature battery failure.Recordthe dateof installationdirectly onthe battery.
4.2.4 Battery Supervision
Whenthebatterydrops to 12.1 VDC, the panel (ifprogrammedforpower supervision) transmits a Battery Low Report.
Ifthe battery is missing orshorted and the panelis programmed for power supervision,it transmits a BatteryMissing
Report.
Whenbatteryvoltagereturns to 13.0 VDC, the panel (if programmed for power supervision) transmits a Battery Restoral
Report.
