P9680C (from the P9600 ser es fam ly of IDMT/DT relays) are m croprocessor-
based relays des gned to mon tor and detect Overcurrent on nd v dual phases and non-d rect onal
Earth faults (by measurement of the neutral current) n 3-phase appl cat ons. Typ cally, they are w red
n conjunct on w th external current transformers of the feeder to be protected.

P9680C model prov des a MODBUS commun cat on allow ng the user access to sett ngs,
measurements and carry out a test and reset operat on f requ red. Refer to the end of data sheet for
further nformat on.
A clear backl t LCD prov des all key nformat on the user requ res for both operat on and sett ng up.
Sett ng s ach eved n a few s mple steps and requ res no prev ous knowledge of product operat on.
Normal operat on prov des the user w th actual l ve nd v dual phase currents and earth fault current
all on one screen. The actual phase current represents that of the current pass ng through the
pr mary s de of the externally connected CT’s. Th s s ach eved by the sett ng of the rat o for the CT.
Programm ng mode allows the user to ass gn the operat on mode for both nternal relays. They can
be nd v dually ass gned to Overcurrent, Earth fault or a comb nat on of both. They can also be
conf gured for Auto or Manual resett ng. Relay 2 has the added opt on of be ng allowed to energ se
at the start or end of a t me out per od. If ass gned to energ se at the start, the Relay can be used to
operate a buzzer or lamp g v ng early warn ng before a system actually shuts down.
Low-set and H gh-set thresholds can be programmed for both Overcurrent and Earth fault
detect on. The t me current character st c of the low-set un ts are selectable between Normal
Inverse curve 3/10, Normal Inverse curve 1.3/10, Long T me Inverse curve, Very Inverse curve,
Extremely Inverse curve, Extremely Inverse 0.65 curve and Def n te T me. H gh-set un ts are the
Def n t ve T me type. Instantaneous tr pp ng s poss ble by sett ng the t me to m n mum.
Two s mple Summary screens are d splayed once the programm ng s complete. The same screens
can also be d splayed by presses of the “R S T” button. Th s allows the user to access key
nformat on w th the tamperproof transparent cover closed and sealed.
A Test mode s prov ded (also access ble w th tamperproof transparent cover closed) to conf rm the
correct operat on of the nternal relays. The relays w ll energ se when the “T ST” button s pressed
and de-energ se when the button s released (AUTO Reset) or when the “R S T” button s pressed
(MAN Reset).
Follow ng a tr p cond t on, the nformat on about the tr p s then stored. Th s can then be recalled
later f requ red us ng the “R S T” button to access the nformat on. The P9680/P9680C

ab l ty to store up to 10 tr ps and us ng the “Up” and “Down” buttons, allows each tr p to be

part cular nputs, know ng when they occurred and how frequent!

1A. TOROID RATIO
 Setting the Toroid Ratio will allow the “actual” Phase currents (IL1, IL , IL3) and
Neutral current (Io) displayed on the LCD to represent that of the currents flowing
through the external CT’s. If no CT’s are used, the parameter should be set to 5/5
(i.e. 1:1). The setting applies to all CT’s.
 Default setting is “5/5”

 Testing should be carried out on a regular basis to check the integrity of the
P9680.
DO NOT use this product to provide a means of isolating circuits in
order to work on when placed in the “TEST”

Notes during programming
 If during programming it is necessary to abort, press the button briefly.
 Pressing and holding either or for >1sec. will increment or decrement
the new value at a quicker rate.
 Stepping through each User Setting screen is performed by pressing and holding
the button until the desired screen is displayed.
Short presses of the button will allow further editable settings to be changed
within a specific screen.
 If the user remains in a setting or summary screen where no adjustments or button
presses are made within a certain period, the screen will revert back to Normal
operation. Additionally, any settings that have been made but not stored will not be
saved.
 ”O/C” refers to Overcurrent and “E/F” refers to Earth fault.

 If the unit has logged the maximum number of trips which can be stored, then the display will show “Tdiff: ----d--h--m--s” when trip screen 10 is viewed.
 The screen will revert back to Normal operation after 1 minute if no further button presses are made.
 If a trip condition occurs whilst in this mode, the screen will automatically change to display the information relating to the current status.
