Easy Setup Instructions
Note
When moving the printer, carry the printer at both ends as shown below.
aPlacetheprinteronaatandhorizontalsurface,anddonot
placeanyobjectsinfrontoftheprinter.
PulluptheShippingtapeonthetopoftheprinter,andremoveittogetherwith
theProtectiveSheet.RemovealltherestoftheProtectiveSheets.
ThenopenthePaperSupport.
bOpen the Front Cover, then remove the Protective Material on
the right side.

Caution
Before turning on the printer, remove all of the shipping tapes.
cClose the Front Cover.
1Prepare the Printer
dPlugthepowercordinthebackoftheprinterandconnectthe
otherendtothewalloutlet.
Power Cord
Note
DoNOTconnecttheUSBcableatthisstage.
ePress the POWERbuttontoturnontheprinter.Theprinterwill
initialize.WaituntilthePOWERlampstopsashingandremains
lit green.
fOpentheFrontCover.TheFINECartridgeHolderautomatically
movestotheleft.
SerialNumber
g Writedowntheserialnumberlocatedinsidetheprinter.Youwill
needthistoregisteryourproduct.
2Install the FINE Cartridges
aRemovetheColorFINECartridgefromitsbox.
bRemovetheProtectiveTapegently.

Note
DonottouchtheelectricalcontactsorPrintHeadNozzlesonaFINECartridge.The
printermaynotprintoutproperlyifyoutouchit.
DonotreattachtheProtectiveTapeonceyouhaveremovedit.
Becarefulnottostainyourhandsorsurroundingworkareawithinkontheremoved
Protective Tape.
cInsert the Color FINE Cartridge slightly slanted into the right slot

dPushuptheFINECartridgeuntilitclicksintoplace.
Important
For correct printer operation, make sure the FINE Cartridge is secure in slots.
Click
eRepeattheprocedurefortheBlackFINECartridge,insertingit
intotheleftslot B.
fClose the Front Cover.
Important
Once you have installed the FINE Cartridges, the POWER lamp will ash green.
Wait for about one to two minutes, until the POWER lamp stops ashing and
remains lit green and the printer has stopped making operating noises, before
proceeding.
Hardware setup is complete.

Beforeinstallingthedriver,disableallanti-virusprogramsandautomaticallyloading
programs.
aBesuretoTURN THE PRINTER OFFbeforecontinuing.
(1) Press the POWERbutton.
(2) MakesurethatthePOWERlampstopsashing.
bTurnthecomputeronandstartWindows.
Important
If you see the Found New Hardware Wizard, remove the USB cable. Click Cancel
to quit the screen. Next, turn off the printer. Then proceed from step 3 to install
the printer driver.
cInserttheSetupCD-ROM.Thesetupprogramshouldrun
automatically.

Thesetupprogramshouldrunautomatically.IftheinstallerintheCD-ROMdoesnot
runautomatically,clickStart and select My Computer,thendouble-clicktheCD-ROM
icon .
dWhenthemainmenuappears,clickEasy Install.
Note
SelectEasy Installinordertoinstalltheprinterdriver,on-screenmanuals,and
applicationsoftware.SelectCustom Installinordertochoosetheoptionsyouwould
liketoinstall.
To install Adobe®RGB(1998),clickCustom Installandfollowtheon-screen
instructions.
eWhenthelistofapplicationstoinstallappears,conrmthe
contents,clickInstall.

Movethecursoroveritemstodisplayexplanationsofeachapplication.
fReadtheLicenseAgreementcarefullyandclickYes. Follow
theon-screeninstructionstoinstallthesoftware.Ifamessage
askingforyourconrmationtorestartyourcomputerappears,
clickOK.
gWhen the Printer Connection screen appears, connect one
endoftheUSBcabletothecomputer,theothertotheprinter,
then TURN THE PRINTER ON.Thesoftwarewillbegin
identifyingtheprinterportbeingused.

If you cannot go to the next procedure after two minutes, refer to “Troubleshoot-
ing” instructions in the User’s Guide on-screen manual.

iWhen the Installation Resultsscreenappears,clickNext.
jWhen the User Registrationscreenappears,clickRegister.
Ifamessageaskingforyourconrmationtorestartyour

Followon-screeninstructionstoregisteryourproduct.Youwillneedyourproduct
serialnumber,whichislocatedontheinsideoftheprinter.SeeStep1-gon the
frontpage.Ifyouintendtoregisterlater,double-click onthedesktopafterStep

IfyourcomputerisnotconnectedtotheInternet,clickNext.
WewouldappreciateitifyouwouldtakepartinthePIXMA Extended Survey
ProgramregardingtheuseofCanonprinters.Fordetails,refertotheon-screen
instructions.
kWhen the Installation completed successfully screen
appears,clickExit.
IfRestartisdisplayed,makesurethattheRestart the system now
(recommended)checkboxisselected,thenclickRestart.
Note
Ifthestraightlineismisalignedorprintqualityisnotsatisfactoryafterinstallingthe
printerdriver,youmayneedtoalignthePrintHead.Referto“Aligning the Print
Head” in the Quick Start Guide.

Windows®Printer Driver Installation
Important
Since Mac®OS 9, Mac OS X Classic environments, or Mac OS X v.10.2.7 or ear-
lier are not supported, do not connect the printer to these.
