1. GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS

The presshead is provided with additional external coatings to protect the operator and
tool against accidental brush contact with live conductors.
Proper training techniques and practices should always be adhered to when working
around live conductors.
Always consult your company’s work rules and methods to select suitable tooling, rubber
insulated gloves, shrouding and other protective equipment.
Under no circumstances should operatives rely solely on the insulating properties of the
tools alone when working around live conductors.
Prior to use please ensure the head and specifically the insulating protection are not
damaged.
Never pressurise the presshead without inserting the dies, this could cause damage to the
head and the ram.
To connect the presshead to the hydraulic drive pump, use only the specific insulated
flexible hose provided with the head.
The oil pressure in the presshead must always be completely released before discon-
necting it from the flexible hose.

2. INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
RHC131LN-KVisequippedwitha"self-lock"quick male couplersuitable forconnectionto ahydraulic
pump containing insulating oil from the Cembre range.
2.1) Setting
Select the appropriate die set for the connector to be crimped.
Insert the die (91) into the upper seat of the head (FIG. 1) until secured by the retaining pin (07).
To ease the die insertion keep release pin (03) depressed.
Insert the die (90) into the seat on the ram until secured by the retaining pin (06).
To ease this operation, operate the pump to advance the ram (02) 15-20 mm (0.6 - 0.8 in.) and
keep release pin (05) depressed.
2.2) Insulated flexible hose connection (FIG. 2)
RHC131LN-KV is supplied with a specific flexible insulated hose to connect it to the pump.
The moveable ring nut (06) must be used to protect the quick couplers connection from accidental
contact with live conductors.
To connect the flexible hose:
Turn the moveable ring nut (06) up against the head to locate the quick coupler (FIG. 2a).
Connect the flexible hose provided to quick coupler of the head (FIG. 2b).
Fully rotate the ring nut (06) up against the collar (20) at the end of the hose (FIG. 2c).
Before using the head, make sure that the ring nut (06) is fully against the collar (20) of the
flexible hose (FIG. 2c)
2.3) Die advancement
Insert the conductor into the connector (FIG. 3).
Locate the connector between the dies at the desired crimp position (FIG. 4).
Operate the pump to advance the die.
Make sure the dies are exactly positioned on the desired crimp point, otherwise re-open dies
following instructions as per section 2.5 and reposition the connector.
2.4) Crimping
Operate the pump to advance the ram until the die faces touch.
It is recommended to continue pumping until the maximum pressure valve of the pump is
activated.
NOTE: when more com-
pression is required, proceed
according to the sequence
and direction indicated in the
figure, uniformly spacing the
compressions.
2.5) Die opening
Fully discharge the oil pressure from the pump, to retract the ram and release the crimped con-
nector.

2.6) Insulated flexible hose
The insulated flexible hose is completely filled with an insulating hydraulic oil with dielectric proper-
ties which insulate the pump from the head.
Keep the flexible hose away from naked flames and sources of heat above 70°C.
Before using the head, check that the flexible hose and couplings are not damaged.
The factory fitted guards must be in place at each end of the flexible hose.
Do not touch the flexible hose when under pressure.
When using the head, the flexible hose must be uncoiled and laid out straight.
Avoid the flexible hose becoming folded or knotted which may compromise its integrity.
3. MAINTENANCE
The head is robust and requires very little daily maintenance.
Compliancewiththefollowingpointsshouldhelp to maintaintheoptimumperformanceofthetool.
3.1) Accurate cleaning
Dust, sand and dirt are a danger for any hydraulic device.
Avoid putting the head on muddy or dusty ground. Any dirt particles may score the ram and create
oil leaks. Every day, after use, the head must be wiped with a clean cloth, taking care to remove any
residual particles, especially around the moving parts.
Clean the quick couplers and close the protection caps.
3.2) Replacement of the automatic coupler
Use a spanner to unscrew the old coupler:
Unscrew the cylinder cover (05).
Remove the obsolete coupler and carefully clean the thread to remove the old sealant.
Apply Teflon tape to the thread.
Fit the new automatic coupler and tighten to 30 Nm (22 lbf ft).
Fully screw the cylinder cover (05) onto the cylinder.
3.3) Storage
Once the job has been completed, the head and
flexible hose should be stored and transported in
the canvas bag supplied, to prevent damage.
Coil the flexible hose in the canvas bag with ample
loops.
Canvas bag CVB-009: Size 390x390x160 mm
(15.3x15.3x6.3 inches); weight 0,6 kg (1.3 lbs).
4. RETURN TO Cembre FOR OVERHAUL
In the case of a breakdown contact our Area Agent who will advise you on the problem and give
you the necessary instructions on how to dispatch the tool to our nearest service Centre.
If possible, attach a copy of the Test Certificate supplied by Cembre together with the tool or fill
in and attach the form available in the“ASSISTANCE”section of the Cembre website.
