Introduction
The D-LinkAirPlusXtremeG+DWL-2000AP+High-Speed WirelessAccess Pointisa
802.11g high-performance,wireless access pointthatsupportshigh-speed wireless
networking athome,atworkorinpublicplaces.
The DWL-2000AP+iscapableofoperating inone of4differentmodestomeetyour
wirelessnetworkingneeds.TheDWL-2000AP+canoperateasanAccessPoint;inAccess
Point-to-Access PointBridging mode;Access Point-to-MultipointBridging mode;or
Wireless Clientmode.
The DWL-2000AP+isan idealsolution forquicklycreating and extending awireless
localarea network(WLAN)inofficesorotherworkplaces,trade showsand special
events.

Unlikemostaccess points,the DWL-2000AP+providesdatatransfersatup to8X
(compared tothe standard11 Mbps)when used withotherD-LinkAirPlusXtremeG+
products.The 802.11g standardisbackwardscompatiblewith802.11b products.This
meansthatyou do notneed tochange yourentirenetworktomaintainconnectivity.You
maysacrificesomeof802.11g’s speed when you mix802.11b and 802.11g devices,but
you will notlosethe abilitytocommunicatewhen you incorporatethe 802.11g standard
intoyour802.11b network.You maychoosetoslowlychange yournetworkbygradually
replacing the 802.11b deviceswith802.11g devices.
Authentication isafirstline ofdefenseagainstintrusion.Inthe
Authenticationprocesstheserververifiestheidentityoftheclientattempting
toconnecttothe network.Unfamiliarclientswouldbe denied access.
Inaddition tooffering fasterdatatransferspeedswhen used withother802.11gproducts,
theDWL-2000AP+hasthenewest, strongest, mostadvanced securityfeaturesavailable
today.When used withother802.11g WPA (WiFiProtected Access)and 802.1x
compatibleproductsinanetworkwithaRADIUSSERVER,thesecurityfeaturesinclude:

Standards-BasedTechnology
The DWL-2000AP+Wireless Access Pointutilizesthe 802.11gstandard.
TheIEEE 802.11gstandardisanextensionofthe802.11bstandard.Itincreases
the datarateup to54Mbpswithinthe 2.4GHzband,utilizing OFDMtechnology.
Thismeansthatinmostenvironments,withinthe specified range ofthisdevice,
you will be abletotransferlarge filesquicklyoreven watchamovieinMPEG
formatoveryournetworkwithoutnoticeabledelays.Thistechnologyworks by
transmittinghigh-speed digitaldataoveraradiowaveutilizingOFDM(Orthogonal
Frequency Division Multiplexing)technology.OFDMworks bysplitting the radio
signalintomultiplesmallersub-signalsthatarethen transmitted simultaneously
atdifferentfrequenciestothe receiver.OFDMreducesthe amountofcrosstalk
(interference)insignaltransmissions.The D-LinkDWL-2000AP+will
automaticallysensethe bestpossibleconnection speed toensurethe greatest
speed and range possible.
802.11g offersthe mostadvanced networksecurityfeaturesavailabletoday,
including:WPA,802.1x,TKIP,AES and Pre-Shared Keymode.Thesesecurity
featuresareexplainedinmoredetailintheIntroduction and the Featuressection
ofthismanual.
TheDWL-2000AP+isbackwardscompatiblewith802.11b devices.Thismeans
thatifyou havean existing 802.11b network,the devicesinthatnetworkwill be
compatiblewith802.11g devicesatspeedsofup to11Mbpsinthe 2.4GHz
range.
