4 SafetyInstrucons
Only use the device if it is in technically perfect condion, according to the intended purpose, in a safety and hazard conscious manner and in compliance
with the following safety instrucons:
• QualiedPersonnel
The assembly, installaon, connecon, commissioning and conguraon of the device may only be carried out by qualied personnel.
This also applies to the maintenance, inspecon and repair of the device in complying with the regulaons of the DIN VDE 0701-0702 series
of standards (VDE 0701-0702: “Inspecon aer repair, modicaon of electrical appliances – Periodic inspecon on electrical appliances –
General requirements for electrical safety”).
• Regulaons
The use of video and audio security/surveillance systems is, in general, strictly regulated.
Before using the device, inform yourself about the currently valid laws and regulaons regarding data, worker and environmental protecon and
ensure compliance with them.
• System Components
Only use internal components that have been tested and approved by Dallmeier.
Inappropriate internal components may cause malfuncons, damage and data loss and may result in the loss of warranty.

• Condensaon
If the device is brought from a cold to a warm environment, resulng condensaon may cause malfuncons and damage. In this case, wait unl the
device has reached room temperature (up to 8 hours) before commissioning.
• Earthing&EquipotenalBonding
For the safety of persons (protecon against dangerous contact voltages) and devices (protecon against over-voltages) as well as for the immunity
of informaon and communicaon technology equipment to electromagnec interferences (EMI), all protecve measures, which are specied by the
currently applicable DIN, VDE and ISO standards and which provide for a standard-compliant grounding/earthing and a correct equipotenal bonding
of electrical and electronic devices, are mandatory and must be fullled by all means.
• LightningStorms
To avoid damage to the device by electrical surge during lightning storms, all protecve measures, which are specied by the currently applicable DIN,
VDE and ISO standards and which provide for a standard-compliant lightning protecon equipotenal bonding, are mandatory and must be fullled
by all means.

• OperangCondions
Unfavorable operang condions may shorten the lifeme of the device, may cause malfuncons, damage and data loss and may result in the loss of
warranty.
Observe the specicaons given in the technical data, the operang condion requirements and the maintenance instrucons.
• ForeignBodiesintheDevice
If objects or liquids get into the device, immediately disconnect it from the power supply (pull out the power plug or disconnect the device from the
PoE enabled PSE port).
Contact the sales partner responsible for your area.
• BurntSmellfromtheDevice
If you noce burnt smell or a formaon of smoke coming from the device, immediately disconnect it from the power supply (pull out the power plug
or disconnect the device from the PoE enabled PSE port).

• Opening the Device
The device may only be opened by qualied personnel for commissioning, inspecon, maintenance and repair.
• Disposal of the Device
Do not dispose waste electrical and electronic equipment into the household trash.
Disconnect the device from the power supply.
Remove all connected peripherals.
Return the device to the sales partner responsible for your area.

5 General Notes
Scope of Delivery
The standard scope of delivery includes:
• 1× Hand tool for loosening and ghtening the housing ring
• 3× Mounng screw for xing the dome housing in suspended ceilings with a panel thickness of less than 9 mm or greater than 18 mm
• 1× Weidmüller plug-in connector BL 3.50/02/180 SN (female plug) for Power IN interface
• 1× Drilling template (published in print and on DVD-ROM)
• Product documentaon (published in print and/or on DVD-ROM)
The scope of delivery may dier depending on the ordered equipment, device variant or country of desnaon.
TransportaonandPackaging
Store the original packaging for later transportaon.
Dallmeier is not responsible for any damage resulng from unprofessional or improper transportaon.
The device should only be shipped in the original packaging.
If the original packaging is no longer available, ensure that the used packaging suciently protects the device against damage, moisture, heat and cold.
Warranty
The terms and condions valid at the me the contract was signed shall apply.

AppropriateUse
The MDF5400HD-DN is a high-resoluon single-sensor network camera with sheye lens for detailed capturing of a 360° panoramic eld of view within
a complete half-space (hemisphere – half of a sphere).
The lens-sensor unit of the device is built into an ultra-compact dome housing, the connected encoder unit into a separate box housing.
The device is designed for indoor installaons in suspended ceilings and can be operated with Power over Ethernet (PoE, Class 0, IEEE 802.3af) or
powered by an external 24 V DC power supply unit.
NOTICE

The device is exclusively designed for indoor use.
An outdoor installaon is prohibited and may result in malfuncon, damage, data loss and loss of warranty.
➡Do not install/operate the device in outdoor environments.

Operaon
➡Observe the following notes for operang the device:
• If the device or the cables connected to the device are located near sources with strong radiaon (e.g. radio transmiers, magnec elds), the video
image may be distorted.
• The device is equipped with Automac Gain Control (AGC). In low-light condions the image may be altered (e.g. noise). This is not a malfuncon.
• The video image quality depends on the lighng condions and the used monitor.
• The accuracy of the Automac White Balance (AWB) algorithm depends on the used lighng.
Mixed light (consisng of arcial light and daylight) may cause color distorons (inaccurate color reproducon).
• Poor lighng can lead to an incorrect white balance.

This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class A digital device, pursuant to Part 15 of the FCC Rules.

6 Requirements
AmbientCondions
The device is designed for indoor use.
However, the device may not be installed and operated in environments with
• a large amount of dust and dirt,
• steam or oil vapors (e.g. kitchen),
• direct sunlight,
• high heat radiaon (e.g. radiator),
• improper ambient temperatures,
• nearby strong radiaon sources (e.g. radio transmiers, magnec elds),
• corrosive gases and liquids (e.g. salt water),
• insucient air venlaon (e.g. closed cabinet).

Use of the device under unfavorable ambient condions may shorten its lifeme and may cause malfuncon or damage to the device.

Power Supply
The device can be operated with Power over Ethernet (PoE) and is compable with all Power Sourcing Equipment (PSE) that is compliant with the
IEEE 802.3af PoE standard. Alternavely, the device can also be powered by an external 24 V DC power supply unit.

Risk of death or serious injury
➡The installaon of the device and the connecon of peripheral equipment may only be carried out by qualied personnel and in a
voltage-free state.
➡Before connecng or disconnecng an external DC power supply unit, make sure that the power supply unit is disconnected from the
mains socket (pull the power plug out of the socket).
➡Carry out all protecve measures for a standard-compliant grounding/earthing of the device in accordance with the currently
applicable DIN, VDE and ISO standards in order to ensure the safety of persons (protecon against dangerous contact voltages).
NOTICE
Damage to the device due to improper power supply
Damage to electronic components or serious malfuncons
➡Always ensure the correct polarity when connecng an external DC power supply unit.
➡Do not operate the device with Power over Ethernet (PoE) if the device is powered by an external DC power supply unit.

Damage to electronic components caused by lightning strikes and over-voltages (electrical surges) or malfuncons due to
electromagnec interferences

accordance with the currently applicable DIN, VDE and ISO standards in order to ensure the safety of the device (protecon against
over-voltages) and its immunity to electromagnec interferences (EMI).

If you operate the device with Power over Ethernet (PoE), observe the following notes:
NOTICE
DamagetothecontactsoftheRJ45connectorsbycontacterosionwhenun-mangthejack-plugconneconunderPoEload
Un-mang the jack-plug connecon while transming PoE power causes erosion and ping by electrical arcs on both the jack and plug
contacts (especially when repeatedly un-mang the jack-plug connecon under PoE load).
Electrical arcs are generated, since the electric potenal dierence (voltage) and therefore the intensity of the electric eld between the
contacts rises sharply when un-mang the jack-plug connecon.
The more un-mang cycles are carried out under PoE load, the higher the loss of contact material due to metal evaporaon by electrical
arcs, which in turn accelerates the material erosion process on the contact surfaces.
Damaged contacts with an increased contact resistance may lead to a reduced data transfer rate, unreliable network connecvity or even
total device failure.
➡Always disable PoE on the relevant port of your PoE switch (or PoE midspan device) or disconnect the used single-port PoE injector
from the power supply before un-mang the jack-plug connecon in order to prevent damage to the contacts of the RJ45 connectors
by contact erosion.

7 Maintenance
Maintenance and inspecon of the device may only be carried out by qualied personnel on compliance with the regulaons of the DIN VDE 0701-0702
series of standards (VDE 0701-0702: “Inspecon aer repair, modicaon of electrical appliances – Periodic inspecon on electrical appliances –
General requirements for electrical safety”).
Cleaning
If it is necessary to clean the device, observe the following notes:
NOTICE

➡Clean the housing (outside) with a clean, so, dry and anstac cloth.
• Do not use detergents.
Damagetothelenselementduetoimpropercleaningpracces
➡Remove dust and other small parcles from the lens element with a suitable bulb blower and/or a special lens dust brush to avoid
scratching the lens.
• Do not use canned air or coon buds for cleaning the lens element.
➡To remove greasy dirt such as ngerprints, only use cleaning products (lens cleaning soluons, cleaning wipes, etc.) that are specially
designed for cleaning opcal surfaces.
• Do not use organic solvents (alcohol, benzine) for cleaning the lens element.
• Generally, be aware not to touch the lens element to avoid ngerprints.

8 InstallaonandCommissioning
The installaon and commissioning of the device may only be carried out by qualied personnel.
To install the device, you will need dierent tools/accessories depending on the panel thickness of the suspended ceiling (see below).
Requiredtools/accessoriesforsuspendedceilingswithapanelthicknessof9 – 18 mm:
• Drilling template with marking for the intended installaon hole (Ø 70 mm)
• Electrically powered jigsaw or hand saw (e.g. drywall ulity saw) for circular cut-outs or drilling machine with hole saw (Ø 70 mm);
the used tool type must be suitable for the respecve construcon material such as plasterboard, wood, plasc, metal, etc.
• Phillips*)-head screwdriver PH1 for xing the dome housing in the ceiling panel by means of swiveling retaining wings
• 4 screws (Ø 3.5 mm; length depending on panel thickness) for xing the encoder unit on the hidden side of the ceiling panel
Requiredtools/accessoriesforsuspendedceilingswithapanelthicknessoflessthan9 mmormorethan18 mm:
• Drilling template with markings for the intended installaon hole (Ø 70 mm) and the required drill holes (Ø 5 mm) when using anchors/dowels
• Tool (e.g. center punch or awl) for marking drill hole locaons through the drilling template
• Electrically powered jigsaw or hand saw (e.g. drywall ulity saw) for circular cut-outs or drilling machine with hole saw (Ø 70 mm);
the used tool type must be suitable for the parcular construcon material such as plasterboard, wood, plasc, metal, etc.
• Three screws (Ø 3 – 4 mm) for xing the dome housing and, depending on the construcon material of the ceiling panel, suitable anchors/dowels
• Drilling machine with drill bit (Ø 5 mm) when using anchors/dowels (type of drill bit suitable for the respecve construcon material)
• 4 screws (Ø 3.5 mm; length depending on panel thickness) for xing the encoder unit on the hidden side of the ceiling panel
WARNING

➡Before installing the device, follow the manufacturer’s instrucons regarding the maximum permissible carrying capacity of the
suspended ceiling or ceiling panel.
➡Only use screws and, if necessary, anchors/dowels that are suitable for the construcon material and thickness of the ceiling panel.

➡At the intended camera posion, cut a circular hole with a diameterofexactly70 mm into the ceiling panel using a suitable tool (e.g. a drilling
machine with hole saw or a drywall ulity saw).
When using an electrically powered jigsaw or a hand saw, you should rst draw a circle line with a radiusof35 mm around the center point to
ensure the specied diameter and roundness of the installaon hole.
If necessary, use the drilling template provided.
