HD46 series Quick guide – ENGLISH
HD46 series instruments consist of transmitters, indicators and regulators suitable for measuring
and controlling, depending on model, the following environmental parameters:
•Relative humidity (RH)
•Ambient temperature (T)
•Carbon dioxide (CO2)
•Dewpoint Temperature (Td, computed value)
They are wall-mounted and have built-in sensors. Instruments are factory calibrated and do not
require additional intervention from the user. Power supply: 24Vac or 15…35Vdc.
INSTALLATION AND CONNECTION
Open the housing by pushing the
upper and lower tabs, then pull
to remove the front panel.
Fix the base to a wall,
with connectors at the
bottom and the slot
matching the connection
cable output. Proceed
with connections.
Replace the front panel
inserting the tabs in
their slots .

•“POWER” LED: it indicates the presence
of the power supply. In the models without
display, it blinks if an error occurs.
•CO2, Humidity, Temperature LEDs: they
indicate the activation of the correspondent
relay. They blink if a measurement error
occurs.
•LCD display: it displays the value of all
the measured quantities.
•Keyboard: it allows the instrument setup
and the backlight activation.
•Serial output (mini-USB connector): it
allows the connection of a PC for the
instrument setup, through the custom
cable RS45 (not isolated) or RS45I
(isolated) cable with built-in USB adaptor.
With the RS45 cable, the instrument is
powered directly by the USB port of the PC.
Attention: do not use a standard mini-USB
to USB adapting cable.

Install the instrument at about 1.5m height above the floor and at least 1m distance from the
corners. Do not mount it near windows, outside doors, direct heat, air conditioning or within
occupants’ breathing zone.
CONNECTION DIAGRAMS
OPERATING MODE
Supply the instrument with the correct voltage. A wrong power supply may cause permanent
damage to the instrument. “POWER” LED activation indicates that the instrument is being
powered. About 15 minutes are needed to ensure stable measures and indicated accuracy.
In models provided with a display, measures are shown after a few seconds. The instruments
simultaneously display all measured values.
The instruments are factory preset to be immediately operative. Users can customize instrument
configuration by connecting the serial port located on the instrument side to a computer via the
RS45 or RS45I cable and with the help of the supplied DeltaLog14 program. A computer can be
connected even if the instrument has been already installed and powered. For the connection to
work properly, installation of the USB drivers included in the supplied CD-ROM is required.
HD46…DT… models can also be configured with the help of the front keyboard. Pressing any key
automatically causes the display backlight activation.
ANALOG OUTPUTS
HD46…V… and HD46…A… models have an analog output (0…10V or 4…20mA) for each quantity
measured by the instrument. The factory correspondence between analog output and measuring
range is as follows:

0V or 4mA = -20.0 °C 0V or 4mA = 0.0 % 0V or 4mA = 0
10V or 20mA = 80.0 °C 10V or 20mA = 100.0 % 10V or 20mA = 5000 ppm
Each output can be configured to correspond to a different measuring range interval.
In case of measure out of the set interval, the analog output remains fixed to the extreme
value if the measure is just a little out, and it becomes 11Vdc or 22mA if the measures is
too over or under-range. For a correct operation, please follow the load resistance
specifications for the analog outputs indicated in the technical data.
RELAY OUTPUTS
HD46…R models have a relay output for each quantity measured by the instrument. The activation
of a relay is indicated by the activation of the corresponding LED located in the instrument front
panel. The potential free contact output is preset to close when measure exceeds the threshold
limit for CO2and humidity, and to close when measure falls below the threshold limit for
temperature. The relay is bistable type. In case of no power supply, the relay contact holds
its last set position.
Thresholds and hysteresis can be configured. Relays can be setup to operate with one or two
thresholds. The relay contact can also be set to close when an error occurs concerning a measured
quantity, for example in case of a sensor fault or of an over range measure.
Relays can be used in two modes:

• Simplified mode: relays work with a single threshold, custom-settable; if the instrument is
supplied with a keyboard, it exists a thresholds quick setting mode.
• Complete mode:relays may work with one or two thresholds, the quick setting mode is disabled.
The instrument is preset to the complete mode, with the following thresholds:
Temperature Humidity CO2
Threshold = 20.0 °C Threshold = 50.0 % Threshold = 1000 ppm
Hysteresis = 5.0 °C Hysteresis = 5.0 % Hysteresis = 100 ppm
If the simplified mode is enabled, the predefined thresholds will be as follows:
Temperature Humidity CO2
Threshold = 21.0 °C Threshold = 50.0 % Threshold = 800 ppm
Hysteresis = 5.0 °C Hysteresis = 5.0 % Hysteresis = 100 ppm
In models with keyboard, the simplified mode can be enabled by changing the P#063 parameter. In
simplified mode, if the instrument is supplied with keyboard and display, thresholds can be displayed
and changed as follows:
1. Press MENU (for less than 2 seconds). Ssymbol appears on top left.
2. Move the flashing cursor on the desired threshold, if necessary, using the “▼” and “▲” keys.
3. Press MENU, cursor changes to “underlined” mode.
4. Edit value using the “▼” and “▲” keys.
5. Confirm with MENU (or press ESC if you don’t want to save the change)
Finally, press ESC to return to the measuring mode. The instrument automatically returns to the
measuring mode if no keys are pressed for 30 seconds. The quick setting mode is not protected by
an access code and thresholds can be changed only within configurable predefined intervals (see the
comprehensive manual).
Note: when a “M” is displayed on top left of screen (access code enabled), MENU pressure does not
enter the threshold quick setting mode, but the complete configuration mode is accessed.
CONFIGURATION THROUGH KEYBOARD (HD46…DT… only)
To access configuration mode, press and hold the MENU key for at least 2 seconds, till the message
“Press MENU to edit parameters” is shown.
To edit parameters which are not protected by an access code, simply press MENU.
To edit parameters protected by an access code, do not press MENU when the message “Press
MENU to edit parameters” appears, use instead the “▼” or “▲” keys to enter the first digit of the
code. Confirm the entered digit with MENU, the cursor will move on the second digit. Enter the
other 5 digits in the same way.
To edit a parameter value, proceed as follows:
1. Select the desired parameter using “▼”and“▲”.
2. Press MENU, a full flashing cursor appears on the value.
3. Press MENU again. The cursor changes to the “underlined” mode.
4. Use the “▼” and “▲” keys to increment or decrement a value.
5. Confirm by pressing MENU (or press ESC to delete the changes), the cursor disappears.
6. Select another parameter with the “▼” and “▲” keys, or press ESC to exit.
The instrument automatically leaves the configuration mode and returns to the measuring mode if
no keys are pressed for 30 seconds. If an access code was entered, it remains active for 5 minutes.
If MENU is pressed for less than 2 seconds before the 5-minute interval has elapsed, the instrument
directly accesses the configuration mode without asking for the access code. The active access code
condition is highlighted by the “M” symbol displayed on the left top of screen. To disable the access
code within the 5-minute interval, press and hold the MENU key for at least 2 seconds, till the
message “Press MENU to edit parameters” is displayed, then access configuration mode as operator
by pressing MENU, and press ESC to leave the mode.

RS485 CONNECTION
HD45…S… models are supplied with a RS485 output with MODBUS-RTU protocol. Up to 247
instruments can be connected on the network, through a shielded cable with twisted pairs for signals
and a third wire for common.
Line terminations shall be located at the two ends of the network. Polarization resistors are
connected between signal and power supply lines, in a single point of the line. The cable shield must
be connected at both line ends. Data line shall be kept separated from any power lines.
If more than 32 devices have to be connected (31 instruments plus the Master unit), place a signal
repeater between a group and the next one, with a line termination connected at both ends of each
group.
Each device has its own address. There shall not be more devices with the same address.
The preset communication parameters are as follows: Baud rate: 19200

RS485 communication is disabled if the instrument is connected to a PC via mini-USB output.
