Elane USB70 User manual

User Calibration
In case of severe overload the scale may lose its accuracy. Re-
calibration of the scale may be needed. The load cell of this precision
scale is normally protected against overloaded weight applied slowly, but
extreme overload caused by dropping the scale or dropping something
heavy on the scale may require re-calibration.
CAUTION: Please do not attempt any calibration by yourself unless you
have a 10kg weight available.
Make sure the scale is connected to the PC via USB cable or to AC
mains. Press the ON/TARE key and hold it for about 5 seconds. When
the display changes to , release the ON/TARE key. Now the
scale is in user calibration mode (the LCD also displays 10kg on the left
corner). Put 10kg weight on the platform. After the weight is stable, scale
will calibrate itself. Once the calibration is completed, scale will enter the
normal weighing mode.

Operating Instructions
Unpacking and Assembling the Scale
Unpack the scale and if the scale came from a colder or warmer
environment let it first stay for some time to be at the same temperature
as your current environment. Fix the weighing platform gently to the body
of the scale via the four location points. The slope edge of the platform
should face the front part. The scale must be installed on a firm and flat
surface.
Using the Scale with Power Adapter
Connect the supplied power adapter to the input socket at the rear of the
scale and plug it into the power supply. It is advisable to remove the
battery when using the power adapter.
Using the Scale with Power Battery
Remove the battery compartment cover underneath the scale. Insert a
9V alkaline battery and connect to the battery snap. Replace the battery
compartment cover.
Using the Scale with Computer and USB Power
Connect the square plug of the supplied USB cable to the back of the
scale. Connect flat plug of the cable to an available USB port.
Windows/Mac will automatically recognize the scale and install the
appropriate driver once it is turned on and detected as USB HID device.
The power adapter is not necessary when the scale is connected to the
computer via USB.
Scale Startup
With nothing on the platform, press key. will
appear briefly in the LCD window as the scale performs a self-
check/zeroing routine. After which 0.0oz (or 0g) will appear in the LCD
window. Your scale is now ready to weigh. If you use the adapter or USB
power, simply leave the scale always ON for best performance.
Switching to GRAM Weight Display
The scale is set to display the weight in pounds and ounces by default.
The scale can be changed to display weights in grams (g). Turn on scale
and wait until 0.0oz is displayed. Press the key for about 5
seconds and then release the key. The display should have changed to
0g. Repeat the same steps to switch back to pounds and ounces display.
Tare Function
You can tare (set to zero weight) any item used as a container for other
items or liquids in the following way.
If the scale is switched off, press the key with nothing on the
platform and wait for 0.0oz (or 0g) to display. Place the container on the
platform, and then press the key. The display will show 0.0oz (or
0g) with Tdisplayed on the left side of LCD. Place the item to be
weighed into the container on the platform. The scale will now show the
net weight of the item (minus the container weight).

Connect the square plug of the supplied USB cable at the side of the
scale. Connect flat plug of the cable to an available USB port of the
computer. Elane supplies the program for displaying the weight from the
scale. A DLL is also available for customized applications using the
scale. For more information on how to obtain these programs, please
visit http://www.elane.net or send email to onlinesales@xiamentech.com.
Error Messages
Scale is overloaded.
Low battery indicator. Please replace the battery as soon as
possible. Operation with low battery is possible but the accuracy of the

requires recalibration. Please see next section on how to calibrate the
scale.
