1 INTRODUCTION
ELCOM company wishes to thank you for the purchase of
the EURO-2000T ALPHA cash register. Please read the in-
structions to become familiar with its functions and opera-
tions before you start to operate this equipment. Keep this
manual for future use. It will help you to solve most problems
encountered in its operation.

1.1 Important
•Install the cash register in a place where it will not be exposed to direct sunlight, unusual
temperature changes (under 0° C and above 50°C) or high humidity. Installation in such
places could result in damage to the cabinet and electrical components as well.
• Leave the cash register turned on for at least 8 hours to charge the internal lead acid
accumulator and NiCd memory back up accumulator to full capacity.
• After transporting the unit from a cold environment to a warm one and vice versa, do
not switch on the cash register for 20 minutes at a minimum giving all components time
to be conditioned to the new temperature conditions.
• Clean the cash register with dry, soft cloth. Never use such cleaning agents like petrol or
solvents. Using such chemicals can result in discoloration or deterioration of cabinet.
• Avoid spilling any liquids on the cash register as they may damage its functionality. The
keyboard is to be carefully protected.
• Connect the cash register with the supplied adapter into a standard network plug. Other
electrical equipment connected in the same network circuit may cause improper func-
tioning of the cash register. In an environment with strong interference use the special
anti-interference aids recommended by the manufacturer of the cash register.
• If the cash register malfunctions, contact your authorized dealer for service. Do not try to
repair the register yourself. Do not open the cash register!
• Pull out the AC/DC adapter plug from its electrical connection if the device is to be fully
disconnected.
•If the external adapter is connected to the cash register then the internal lead acid accu-
mulator is charged even the cash register is turned off.
•During receipt printing wait until the printer has finished printing. Do not tear off the receipt
during printing. Printer damage may result.
• Use only high-quality thermo paper. Improper ribbons may result in damage to the printer
or shorten its lifetime. When using suitable ribbons and by properly maintaining the printer,
the average lifetime is up to 25 million lines!
•Journal paper storage recommendations: Do not expose thermo paper to light. Store at
temperature not higher than 40°C. Avoid contact of thermo paper with PVC, mollificators,
organic dissolvent or glue.
• Use paper ribbon, which end is not glued. If such paper ribbon will be used and not
changed early, the printer could be damaged or its life could be abbreviated. In this case
the damaged printer waranty is not valid.
•Use only the supplied AC/DC adapter or source recommended by authorised dealer for
electrical connection. The use of other adapter type may result the damage of the cash
register.
• Use only the program recommended by your authorized dealer as well as the original
interconnecting cable for the cash register communication with a computer. For bar code
scanners use only the connector recommended in these instructions.
•In case the cash register is not used for a long time, it is necesarry to turn on the ECR
for at least 24 hours per 3 months of disuse to charge the internal NiCd memory back
up accumulator to prevent data memory loss. Note that the capacity of internal lead acid
accumulator drops to about 70% in 6 months.
•If the cash register is used in ways other than those described in these instructions, the
dealer cannot be responsible for data correctness and resulting damages.

1.2 Basic definitions
Logo
The heading on each printed receipt is introductory information preceding description of goods purchased.
It is mainly used to identify the cash register owner (company name, tax information, company identifica-
tion, etc.).
Department
Department (DPT) is used to denote the goods groups having some common features (dairy products,
foodstuffs, fruit etc.). It is characterized by name, parameters and by the preprogrammed selling price, if
it is to used for direct sale.
PLU
(Price Look Up) abbreviation for the denomination of the specific goods (goods item). PLU code represents
the goods name, the sale price and flags (assignment to the goods group, VAT level, PLU type etc.)
E.g. Fat milk - 13,50 SK, White yoghurt - 7,50 SK).
Relationship between the departments and PLUs
The following example clearly describes the relation between the goods groups (departments) and the goods
items (PLU). 16 PLU and 4 goods groups were used here.

Report
The sale overview up to the choice (financial, total, cashier, PLU etc.)
There are two basic types of reports: X and Z.
X- reports print the concrete sales values (according to the report choice) without resetting the
data.
Z- reports print the sales values of the called report. After printing the values, all values are
reset to zero in the cash register memory.
Bar code
Coding of the numeric description of products into bars corresponds with clearly defined international rules.
If product has an assigned a bar code, it appears on each of these goods. The most frequently used code
for product or merchandise denomination in Europe is 13-digit code according to the EAN norm (EAN-13)
and the 8-digit code EAN8.
Bar code scanner
A bar code scanning device is used to improve speed and
accuracy in goods registration.
System flags
Basic settings of the register that largely influence correctness of cash register functions. (Number of
decimal places, system of numbers rounding, date, time, etc.)

The EURO-2000T ALPHA cash register belongs to the family of portable cash registers. It is light and
compact. The Euro-2000T ALPHA is designed for smaller businesses, easily transportable from one sales
area to another, and can be easily moved to areas as a substitute cash register in case of power failure.
Inspite of its small dimensions it is technically a very well equipped cash register offering great flexibility
with connectivity to many peripheral devices. It can be connected to a personal computer, to a bar code
scanner, and to an electronic scales as well. The Cash drawer, the external display and a PC keyboard can
be connected to register. The cabinet comprises a sufficiently large space for a very adequate paper roll.
The Euro-2000T ALPHA can be power supplied:

"From the car accumulator (12-24 V) through car lighter cable
Both the AD/DC adapter and the built in accumulator are supplied with the cash register.
The displays back light, external display, money drawer, external battery box with the starter cord, car
lighter cable, paper roll end optical sensor, communication software for personal computer and modem
communication, water-resistant spill proof keyboard cover and carrying bag, are optional accessories.
The Euro-2000T ALPHA provides several managerial functions and reports. It supports completely a
national or native language and its special characters. Both programming and reports are in native lan-
guages. The cash register is intended mostly for ambulant, movable or remote sales areas and for
businesses with small sale frequency. Because of its reasonable price this cash register is often used as
a back-up register in situations where a cash register is out of service or a power failure demands a non-
electric cash register.

The keyboard is divided into three main key groups - department keys, numeric and functional keys.
The keys (the buttons) in this manual are black with white markings. The numeric keys are the opposite,
white with black numbers.
Large and simple icons, are used for ease in recognizing functional keys. The function name is written in
small letters bellow the key icon.
The Euro-2000T ALPHA cash register keyboard is very comfortable and ready for the operation. The
function keys and group keys are equipped with transparent removable covers, so you may substitute your
own customized labels. You can simplify your work if you mark the department keys by your own group
names (dairy products, alcohol, pastry, etc.).
The keyboard is sensitive to contamination, humidity and dirt. If your cash register is situated in
such an environment, it is recommended that an optional transparent waterproof keyboard cover be
used. Secure a cover from your authorized dealer. It helps avoid keyboard failures and keeps the
register permanently in operation. A new cover should replace a damaged or dirty cover.

Numerical keys are used for numerical values entry.
Department keys (used during recording of department sales). They are used for
report of department sales in X mode and for department programming in P mode.
The PAPER FEED key shifts the receipt ribbon without printing. The receipt ribbon
is fed in 1,5 cm by pressing this key.
Pressing this key allows you to enter bar code through the keyboard in R and T mode.
Pressing this key immediately after pressing the key I(REFUND) in T mode
allows you to switch the receipt printing on and off. The printinting switched off is
signaled by character T.
This key is used to register the weight of goods from the electronic scales.
After finishing a transaction it is possible to print out the same receipt again by
pressing this key immediately after pressing the key I(REFUND). The receipt is
denoted DUPLICATE. It is also used for PLU stock programming in P mode.
The button CLEAR is used to clear an amount that has been entered incorrectly from
the numeric keyboard. This button also cancels an incorrectly entered function and
the sound signaling ERROR/ALARM.
The VOID button is used to correct the item that has already been registered. If the
transaction is finished in R or T mode, the key is used for switching the cash register
between standard transactions and the PC ON-LINE mode. It is also used for
function texts programming in P mode.
The REFUND button enables you to pay back money, e.g. for damaged goods,
during the sale or as an independent transaction. After finishing a transaction it is
possible to print out the same receipt again by pressing the key Fimmediately after
pressing the key I(REFUND). The receipt is denoted DUPLICATE.
Pressing the key Gimmediately after pressing the key I(REFUND) in T mode
allows you to switch the receipt printing on and off.
It is used for VAT levels programming in P mode.
The TIME/X button is utilized for multiplication, if two or more pieces of the same item
are being sold. It is also used for displaying the time in the registration mode. It is also
used for backlight activation in X mode.

The PLU button (PRICE LOOK UP) makes it possible by means of the PLU code to
call out the programmed data about the item price, the name, the department, VAT,
etc. See PLU transactions. It evokes PLU report in X or Z mode. It is also used for
PLU programming in P mode.
The button enables manual entering of the item price rather than the preprogrammed
PLU price for one entry. It is also used for fast PLU price programming in P mode.
The button is used to identify the cashier by means of the password and permits the
cashier to log in. Through this method, the proper cashier claims responsibility for the
transactions. The name of the logged in cashier, is printed on each receipt header.
The transactions are recorded in the cashiers account and are displayed in the
cashiers report.
In the void mode (R or T) this button functions as arrow up or jump to the previous
item. It is also used for the cashier report in X mode and for cashier programming in
P mode.
The DRAWER button is used to print the customers or other reference numbers on
the receipt. It is also used to open the drawer with no sale. In the void mode (R or T)
this button functions as arrow down or jump to next item.
The RA button is used to register the received payments if no business transaction
had been executed. It records, for example, insertion of daily opening cash into the
drawer. In the void mode (R or T) this button functions as page up or jump through 5
items back. It is also used for Flag programming in P mode.
The PO button is used to register paid out cash or checks from the cash register
as a non-business transaction. See paid-out function. In the void mode (R or T)
this button functions as page down or jump forward through 5 items. It evokes a
periodical report in X or Z mode. It is also used for logo programming in P mode.
These two buttons are used to add the percent add-on or to subtract the percent
discount for a particular item or for the complete transaction according to the pro-
grammed values.
The ST button prints and displays the actual subtotal value.
The CREDIT button is used to finalize the sale in case of credit card payment.
The CHECK button is used to finalize the transaction in case of check payment. It
evokes a financial report in X mode.
The TOTAL/CASH button is used to finalize the sale in case of cash payment. It
evokes a daily report in X or Z mode.

The Cashier display is alphanumerical and it consists of two lines, in each line can display up to 20
characters. The display is STN LCD type. The alphanumerical type means that any character or digit can
be displayed. Reading messages, amounts and names from display is simple and easy to understand.
The cashier display backlight is standard and built in.
2.5.2 Euro-2000T Alpha customer display layout
The customer display of the Euro-2000T cash register is the LCD type and contains 8 large and 4 smaller
numeric segments. Furthermore it contains the descriptive texts-icons of PLU, DPT and LowBat.

The Euro-2000T ALPHA customer display can be divided into a descriptive and a numeric part. The
descriptive part Informs what function is being performed, whether the PLU number or the department
number (DPT) is displayed (leftmost 4 positions). The numeric part of the display shows numeric values-
price only, totals (8 rightmost positions).

2.5.3 Switching the display backlight on and off
The back light increases the contrast of the display, protects your sight and enables you to use the cash
register under conditions of insufficient light.
The Euro-2000T ALPHA cashier display is standardly equipped with LED backlighting. The backlight for
customer display is optional. You can ask for installation of a customer display backlight from your
authorized dealer.
The display back light increases power consumption and shortens operational time of the cash register
powered by accumulator. Euro-2000T ALPHA provides the option of easy activation of the backlight as
needed. If the backlight is activated and no key is pressed within 15 seconds then the backlight will be
switched off automatically. After pressing the key the backlight is turned on automatically.
The backlight activation change procedure:
1. Turn the key in the mode switch to position X. The cash register is in the X mode.
2. The backlight activation is changed by pressing the key K.

2.6 Mode switch and mode keys
The mode switch enables you to set the mode of the cash register. The different mode
keys enable the operator to work in different cash register modes (registration,
programming, reports, etc.). Furthermore, the mode switch prevents illegal use of the
cash register.
The following keys are used:
Operator/cashier key (marked OP) enables to work in the L-R-X mode
Submanager key (marked SM) enables to work in the L-R-X-Z mode
Manager key (marked MA) enables to work in all modes L-R-X-Z-P-T
TThe training mode is used when the operator or the manager practices register operations. The
training mode provides all functions of the R mode. In this mode transactions are not included
in the daily or periodical reports. The receipts printed in this mode are marked by the text Invalid
document. When switching the register into this mode, the topical time in the first line and
TRAINING MODE T in the second line appears on the display.
LThe cash register is locked. By switching the register to this mode, the current time in the first
line and LOCK MODE in the second line appears on the display. The keyboard functions are
inactive. If the register is connected to the main source of electricity, circuits containing the data
concerning the sale, time and date are supplied. This mode is designed for charging the internal
accumulator, which backs up the data.
RPosition - registrations. This position is used for all registrations and transactions. By switching
into this mode, the topical time in the first line and topical date and day in the second line appears
on the display until you begin the registration.

PROGRAMMING MODE P
XThe X mode is used to print the sale reports. Printing of the reports does not reset the data about
the cash register sales. This mode with the current time in the first line and X MODE in the
second line appears on the display.
ZThe Zmode is used to print all types of reports that reset cash register memory data registers.
When this mode is selected, the current time appears in the first line and Z MODE in the
second line on the display.
PThe P program mode is used to program all the values and functions of the cash register. When
this mode is selected, the current time appears in the first line and PROGRAMMING
MODE in the second line on the display.
For the Euro-2000T ALPHA cash register operation
a two thermo paper ribbon of 28mm width is used.
The left one is designed for customer receipt print-
ing and the right one for the journal print. Use only
rolls of good quality with a maximum diameter of
60mm.
To ensure proper cash register operation, make
sure the printing saturation is correct. If any prob-
lems occur consult your local authorized dealer.
By carefully pressing a finger against the printer
cover in the area shown, the printer cover can be
removed from the upper register cover.
Place the paper rolls into the paper roll bed so that it can wind off forward from the bottom side (see the
picture below). Cut the ribbon end straight. The ribbon end must not contain any dirt or glue residue.
