GB Instructions specific to hazardous area installations
Model numbers covered: MCU*****-A*** ("*" indicates options in construction, function and materials). The following instructions
apply to equipment covered by certificates numbered BAS00ATEX7064, BAS01ATEX7225X, and IECEx SIR 06.0090X:
1. The MCU900 control unit may be connected to a transmitter located in a hazardous area. The MCU control unit must
not itself be located in a hazardous area.
2. General
a. Do not mount the MCU on a structure that is subject to vibration, or in a position where damage may be caused
by impact, thermal stress or liquid ingress.
b. The fuse must only be replaced with the type specified.
c. It is the responsibility of the user to ensure:
(c.1.) the voltage and current limits for this equipment are not exceeded.
d. If the equipment is likely to come into contact with aggressive substances, it is the responsibility of the user to
take suitable precautions that prevent it from being adversely affected, thus ensuring that the type of protection is
not compromised.
Aggressive Substances – e.g. acidic liquids or gases that may attack metals or solvents that may affect polymeric
materials.
Suitable Precautions – e.g. regular checks as part of routine inspections or establishing from the material’s data
sheet that it is resistant to specific chemicals.
e. The user should not repair this equipment.
3. Wiring instructions
a. Terminal 30 of the MCU Control Unit must be connected to an Intrinsically Safe earth.
b. The MCU must not be connected to a supply exceeding 250V r.m.s. or dc, or to apparatus containing a source of
voltage exceeding 250V r.m.s. or dc.
c. The Intrinsically Safe outputs of the MCU Control Unit may be connected to certified equipment used in a hazardous
area requiring Equipment Protection Level Ga or Da (category 1) equipment, with flammable gases and vapours
groups IIC, IIB, and IIA, and flammable dusts groups IIIC, IIIB, and IIIA. No additional I.S. barrier is required.
d. If the circuit connected to Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 does not satisfy EN60079-11 clause 6.4.12 (Isolation of circuits
from earth or frame) then equipotential earthing to the MCU900 intrinsically safe earth shall be provided. An
equipotential earthing example is a cable with a cross-sectional area greater than 4 mm2and a resistance of 1 Ohm.

c. Terminal 2 (Iin) with respect to terminal 3 (Earth) must be treated as a 6.51V source. The 6.51V is considered as
being the theoretical maximum to which a capacitive load across these terminals could become charged through
leakage through internal series blocking diodes. This voltage does not contribute to the short circuit sparking risk
of any external source connected to these terminals.

1. L'unité de contrôle MCU900 peut être reliée à un transmetteur qui est situé en zone dangereuse. Par contre, l'unité de
contrôle MCU900 ne peut pas être montée en zone dangereuse.
2. Général
a. Ne pas monter l'unité de contrôle sur un support qui subit des vibrations, à un endroit où elle risque d'être
endommagée par des chocs mécaniques ou thermiques ou par la pénétration de liquide.
b. Le fusible doit être remplacé par le type spécifié.
c. L'utilisateur est responsable de l'assurance:
(c.1.) Du respect des limites de tension et de courant de l'instrument.
d. S'il y a un risque que le capteur soit mis en contact avec des substances agressives, l'utilisateur est tenu
responsable pour précautions nécessaires afin d'éviter toute détérioration du capteur ou diminution de sa classe
de protection.
Substances agressives – ex. liquides ou gaz acides qui peuvent attaquer des métaux ou des solvants qui peuvent
attaquer des matières à base de polymères.
Précautions nécessaires – ex. contrôles réguliers d'état lors des inspections de maintenance ou s'assurer de la
compatibilité des matières de construction du capteur avec la présence de tous les produits chimiques
spécifiques à l'application.
e. Le capteur n'est pas conçu pour être dépanné par l'utilisateur.
3. Instructions de câblage
a. La borne 30 de l'unité de contrôle MCU doit être reliée à un réseau de terre de sécurité intrinsèque
b. L'unité de contrôle MCU ne doit pas être reliée à une alimentation supérieure à 250 V CA efficace ou CC, ni à un
appareil comportant une alimentation supérieure à 250 V CA efficace ou CC.
c. Les sorties de sécurité intrinsèque de l'unité de contrôle MCU peuvent être reliées à des appareils agréés pour
une utilisation en zone dangereuse à un emplacement nécessitant spécifiquement un équipement à niveau de
protection Ga ou Da (catégorie 1), avec des gaz et des vapeurs inflammables selon les groupes IIC, IIB et IIA, et
poussières inflammables selon les groupes IIIC, IIIB, et IIIA. Aucune barrière supplémentaire de sécurité
intrinsèque n'est nécessaire.

Die folgende Anleitung wird verwendet für Geräte mit der Bescheinigung-Nr. BAS00ATEX7064, BAS01ATEX7225X, und
IECEx SIR 06.0090X:
1. Das Steuergerät MCU900 wird an einen Transmitter, der im Ex-Bereich montiert ist, angeschlossen. Das Steuergerät
MCU900 wird ausserhalb des Ex-Bereiches installiert.
2. Allgemein
a. Das Steuergerät MCU darf nicht an Orten installiert werden, die Vibrationen oder der Möglichkeit von Zerstörung,
thermischen Belastungen oder Eindringen von Feuchtigkeit ausgesetzt sind.
b. Die Sicherung darf nur durch eine des gleichen, spezifizierten Typs ausgetauscht werden.
c. Es liegt in der Verantwortlichkeit des Kunden sicher zu stellen, das:
(c.1.) Die Spannungs- und Stromgrenzen für dieses Gerät nicht überschritten werden.
d. Wenn die Wahrscheinlichkeit besteht, daß die Geräte in Kontakt mit aggressiven Substanzen kommen, so liegt es
in der Verantwortlichkeit des Kunden, nachteilige Beeinträchtigung zu verhindern.
Aggressive Substanzen, z.B. saure Flüssigkeiten oder Gase, können Metalle angreifen. Lösungsmittel können
Kunststoffe beeinträchtigen.
Geeignete Vorsichtsmaßnahmen – z. B. regelmäßige Prüfungen im Rahmen der Routinewartung oder
Bestätigung der Eignung durch Prüfung der Werkstoff Datenblätter.
e. Das Gerät sollte nicht vom Kunden repariert werden.
3. Elektrische Anschlüsse
a. Klemme 30 des Steuergerätes MCU wird mi einem eigensicheren Erdanschluss verbunden.
b. Das Steuergerät MCU darf nicht an Versorgungsspannungen über 250 VSS oder DC oder an Geräten, die eine
interne Spannung von über 250 VSS oder DC führen, angeschlossen werden.
c. Die eigensicheren Ausgänge des MCU Steuergerätes werden an zertifizierte Geräte, die speziell das
Geräteschutzniveau Ga und Da erfordern (Betriebsmittelkategorie 1), der Gasgruppen IIC, IIB und IIA, und
brennbaren Stäuben in der Gruppenklasse IIIC, IIIB, und IIIA. Zusätzliche Zenerbarrieren werden nicht benötigt.

c. Klemme 2 (Iin) in Bezug zur Klemme 3 ( Erde ) wird wie eine 6,51 V Spannungsquelle behandelt. Die 6,51V
Spannung wird als das theoretische Maximum betrachtet, zu dem eine kapazitive Last über diese Klemmen durch
Ableitung durch die internen, seriellen Sperrdioden aufgeladen werden kann.
