Warranty

Limited Warranty
. Subjecttothelimitationscontained inSection10(LimitationofRemedy
andLiability) herein, Seller warrantsthat (a)the licensedfirmware embodied in the Goods will
executetheprogramminginstructionsprovidedbySeller;(b) thattheGoodsmanufacturedby
Seller will befreefromdefectsin materials or workmanshipundernormaluseandcare;and(c)
Services will beperformedbytrainedpersonnel using proper equipmentandinstrumentation
forthe particularServiceprovided. Theforegoing warrantieswillapply untiltheexpirationof
theapplicablewarrantyperiod. Sensorsanddetectorsare warrantedagainst defectiveparts
andworkmanship for 24 monthsfromthe date of purchase and otherelectronicassemblies for
36months from the dateofpurchase.ProductspurchasedbySeller from a third partyfor
resale to Buyer (
ResaleProducts
) shall carry only the warranty extendedby theoriginal
manufacturer. Buyer agrees that Seller has no liability for Resale Products beyond making a
reasonable commercial effort toarrange for procurement and shipping ofthe Resale Products.
IfBuyer discovers any warranty defectsandnotifies Sellerthereofinwritingduringthe
applicable warrantyperiod,Seller shall,atitsoption,(i)correctany errorsthat arefound by
Sellerin thefirmwareorServices;(ii)repairorreplaceFOBpointofmanufacturethat portionof
theGoodsfoundby Sellertobe defective;or(iii)refundthe purchase price of thedefective
portionof theGoods/Services. Allreplacementsorrepairs necessitated byinadequate
maintenance;normal wear andusage;unsuitable power sources or environmental conditions;
accident;misuse;improperinstallation;modification;repair;useofunauthorizedreplacement
parts; storage or handling; or any other cause not the fault of Seller, are notcoveredbythis
limitedwarrantyand shall be replacedorrepairedat Buyer’s sole expense and Seller shall not
be obligated topay any costs or charges incurred by Buyer or anyother party except asmay be
agreeduponinwritinginadvancebySeller. Allcostsofdismantling,reinstallation,freightand
the time and expenses of Seller’s personnel and representatives for site travel and diagnosis
underthis limited warrantyclause shall be borne by Buyer unlessaccepted inwriting by Seller.
Goodsrepairedandpartsreplacedby Seller during thewarrantyperiod shall be in warrantyfor
theremainderoftheoriginalwarrantyperiodor90days,whicheverislonger. Thislimited
warranty is the only warranty made by Seller and canbe amended only in a writing signed by an
authorized representative of Seller. Thelimited warranty herein ceases to beeffective ifBuyer
fails to operate and use the Goods sold hereunder in a safe and reasonable manner and in
accordance with any written instructions from the manufacturers. THE WARRANTIES AND
REMEDIES SET FORTH ABOVE ARE EXCLUSIVE. THERE ARE NO REPRESENTATIONS OR
WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, AS TO MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR
PARTICULAR PURPOSE OR ANY OTHER MATTER WITH RESPECT TO ANY OF THE GOODS OR
SERVICES.

The transmitter is certified for use in hazardous locations and is available as a single or dual sensor
system. Alloperatorcontrolsincludingconfigurationandcalibrationcanbeaccessed withoutopening
the enclosureby using other communicationdevices and the attached magnet to actuate magnetic
Reedswitches.Availableoutputsare:conventional4to 20 mAanalog,Analog/HART,

2.1 Unpackingandinspection
Carefullyremoveallof thecomponentsfrom the packaging and verify them against the enclosed
packing list. Inspect allcomponentsfor anyobviousdamagesuch asbrokenorlooseparts. Ifyou find
anycomponentsmissing ordamaged, notifyyour localNetSafetyrepresentativeor thefactory
immediately.
2.2 Dimensions
TheMillenniumIItransmitterenclosureisavailablein aluminum(A359) and stainless steel (SS316).
Dimensions are provided in inches and [millimeters].

2.3 Mounting
Ensure transmitter and sensor aresecurely mounted asperlocalregulations.Thetransmitterhas
mounting holesto allowmounting toawall orpoleasdesired. Mountingkithardwareis requiredwhen
mounting thetransmittera pole. Contactyour localNetSafetyrepresentativefor detailedinformation
onthe polemountingkits. Thetransmittershould be mounted at eye-level andbe easilyaccessiblefor
monitoring andmaintenance purposes.
2.3.1 Transmitterorientation options
Depending on the installation and mounting requirements, the transmitter enclosure (housing) may be
mounted in differentorientationsasseeninFigure2-2. Toaccommodatethedifferent mounting
orientations,theelectronicsmodulecanbe rotatedinside thetransmitterenclosure.

Ensuretheorientationallowsproper wiringandadequatewirelengthinsidethe transmitterenclosure.
When determining suitable enclosure
orientationforspecific applications,installersshouldobserveall
localregulationsandguidelinesformountingenclosures.

2.3.2 Faceplaterotation
Beforewiringorrotatingelectronics,ensurethatthepowerto transmitteris switchedoff. Do notopen
the transmitter enclosure inaclassified area.
Avoid touching electronic components, as they aresusceptible toelectrostatic discharge (ESD). Refer
toSection8formoreinformation.
Whenthetransmitter enclosureis mountedindifferentorientations(B,C,andD)as outlined in Figure
2-2,theelectronicsmodulewill needtoberotatedto ensurethe displaycanbe easilyread. The
electronics moduleconsists of the relayboard, faceplate (Display/CPU assembly), and main terminal
board.To rotatetheelectronicsmodule,followthese instructions:
1. Turn offpowertotransmitter and ensure area is de-classified
2. Removetheenclosure cover
3. Unscrewboththelocking knobs and free from two metal standoffs
4. Lift transmitter faceplate from enclosure
5. Disconnect existing wiring
6. Unscrewthetwometal standoffs using a ¼”hex tool
7. Carefully remove theelectronics module
8. Rotate theelectronicsmoduletodesiredposition
9. Align metal standoffs withthe mounting holes ofthe electronics module and enclosure base

10. Insert metal standoffsintheappropriatemountingholes
11. Tighten metal standoffs with ¼” hex tool tosecureelectronicsmodule
12. Reconnectwiring
13. Replace faceplate, then fit and handtightenlocking knobs tometal standoffs by turning
clockwise
14. Replaceenclosurecover.

2.4 Wiring
2.4.1 Generalrequirements
Failureto followtheseinstallationguidelinescouldresultindeathorserious injury. Ensurethatonly
qualifiedpersonnelperformtheinstallation.
Electricalshockcouldcausedeathorseriousinjury. Useextremecaution whenmaking contactwith
the leadsandterminals.
Donot open the transmitter,sensor, or junctionboxenclosurewheninaclassifiedarea or when an
explosive atmosphere may be present unless the power to the transmitter has beenremoved.

Wiringcodesandregulationsmayvary. Wiringmustcomplywithallapplicableregulationsrelatingto
the installation of electrical equipment in a hazardous area and
isthe responsibility oftheinstaller. Ifin
doubt,consulta qualifiedofficialbeforewiringthesystem.
When separating the sensorfrom the transmitter, the useofshielded cableishighly recommended
to
meetelectromagnetic compatibility(EMC)requi
rements and
toprotectagainstinterference caused by
extraneouselectricalorelectromagneticnoise
. Inapplicationswherethewiringisinstalledin conduit,
theconduitmustnotbeusedfor wiringtootherequipment.
Ifthe4-20mA signal is not used, connect ajumper betweenthe 4 –20mA terminal and the common
terminal toallowanalogcurrent levelsto bemonitored atthetestjacks on the faceplate.
In applications where wiringis installed in conduit, conduitmust not be usedfor wiringto anyother
electrical equipment.
Foreffectivecommunication,NetSafetylimitssensor separationto2000feet (600meters)using 16
AWG wires.
ModbusRS-485connection2-wiremode,multipointseriallineavailable. Upto247addresses allowed.
WhendevelopingaRS-485chainofdevices,thelastdevice inthechainrequiresanend of line
termination resistor (120 Ohms).
2.4.2 Terminal connection
Whenconnectingcablewires, use a small screwdriver to gently press down and hold the spring
connectoropen.Inserttheappropriatewireintotheopenconnectorhole,releasingthescrewdriverto
secure the wireasshown in Figure 2-4.
Theconnectorwillaccommodatewire sizes between 14 and20 AWG.

2.4.3 Cable choiceand guidelines
Radiofrequencyinterference (RFI) canbecausedbynearbyelectricaldevices(e.g.transformersorhigh
voltage equipment) as well as handheld communication devices/radios, which when activated, may
impedetheproperfunctioningof thetransmitterand sensor.Selectingtherightinstrumentationcable
andmakingpropergroundingconnectionswithinthe junctionboxwill reduceor eliminate
interference.VisiblesymptomsofRFI includeinconsistent,incorrect,and erratic LEL andppmreadings.
2.4.4 Importantwiringguidelines
Gasdetection instruments are animportant part of a safety alarm and shutdown system. The system is
composedof:

Net Safety designs and manufactures its detection equipment under rigid quality control management
systems and makes every effort to design for the harshest of industrial environments. The other
componentsofthesystem –the customer-connected equipment and wiring–arealso important
contributors to theoverall quality andperformance ofthe safety system.
Itis importanttoimplement wiringthatensuresthereliabilityand integrity of the safety system.Field
wiringpracticesandthe choice of cabletypespecifiedvaryfromproject to project.Poorpracticesand
choices are often found to be the source of unwanted system disruptions. RFI and electromagnetic
interference (EMI)are usuallyverypowerfuldisruptiveforcesinindustrialfacilitiesandtheseforcesact
upon the system through thewiring.
The cable used should be a veryhigh quality instrument grade, certified for the application conditions,
consistingofa ruggedprotective outerjacket,anoverallelectricalshieldoffinebraidedcopper or
metallicfoil,andinternalpairs ortriadsoffoilshieldedcopperwireof suitablegaugeforthe power
conducted over the specified length.
The shields mustbeelectrically continuousfromtheinstrumentjunction box through other junction
boxes andfinally to the connectedequipment. Theshield must beconnected to a suitable groundsink
as specified inthe instrument manual inorder to protect thesystem fromelectrical disturbances.
Ingeneral,communicationcablesandpowercablesshouldnot runin parallelfor anysignificantlength,
andshould notbecarried in the same cabletray. Through inductance, high currents in power cables
can induce significant ‘noise’ in communication cables running parallelalongside power cables.
2.4.5 Internalgroundscrew
To accessenclosuregrounding screw,remove the electronicsmodulebyfollowingsteps1through 7in
Section2.3.2.
2.4.6 Externalground
Inordertoensureproperoperationofthe sensor, an externalearth ground isrecommended. Net
Safety recommends that the external ground be connected to the grounding point on the enclosure.
2.4.7 Seals
The use of seals is recommended to further protect the system against water ingression, and
equipment should beinstalled according to applicable local electricalcodes. Sealsare especially
recommended for installations that use high-pressureorsteam cleaning devicesin proximityto the
transmitter.
•Waterproofandexplosionproofconduitsealsarerecommended topreventwateraccumulation
within the enclosure
•Seals should be located as close to the device as possible and not more than18 inches (46 cm) away
•Explosionproofinstallationsmayrequirean additionalseal whereconduitenters anon-hazardous
area; ensureconformitywithlocalwiringcodes
•When pouringaseal,use afiberdamto ensure properformationoftheseal.Sealsshould never be
poured at temperatures below freezing

•The jacket and shielding of the cable should be stripped back to permit the seal to form around the
individualwires. Thiswill prevent air particles and water leakage throughthe inside of theshield
and into the enclosure
•Itisrecommendedthatexplosionproofdrainsand conduitbreathersbeused.Insomeapplications,
changes in temperature and barometric pressure can cause breathing which allows moist air to
enterandcirculate insidethe conduit.Jointsinthe conduit system are seldom tight enough to
prevent this breathing
2.4.8 Analog output, isolated supply, non-isolated supply andjumper
configuration
Theanalogoutputmay be powered from themaininstrumentpower supply or aseparate,
independentpowersupplyinwhichcasean isolatedwiringconfigurationisnecessary.
To set a Non-isolated or Isolatedcurrent output, simply move the Jumpers/shorting jacks(JP3 and JP4)
toeitherthenon-isolatedorisolatedcurrentposition. For non-isolatedcurrentoutput,ensurepins 3 &
2 at JP3 & JP4 location on the main terminal board are jumped (shorted). Factory standard models ship
with jumpersatJP3&JP4inthe non-isolated currentoutputposition.
For Isolated current output, pins 1 & 2at JP3 & JP4 should be jumped (shorted). Note that JP3is for
configuringchannel 1and JP4 is for configuring channel 2. Jumpers andpinsarelocatednextto the
power and 4-20 output terminals on the main terminal board. See Figure2-5for reference.

2.4.9 Remotelymountedsensorsjumper configuration
Sensor separation from the transmitter may extend up to 2000 feet (600 meters) in whichcase a
junction box is required.
When mounting sensor remotely (separating sensor from transmitter), Jumpers JP1 and JP2 should be
installed over the pins. Jumpers and pins are located on the main terminal board near the sensor
terminals. JP1 is for channel 1 and JP2 is for channel 2. Refer to Figure2-6.

When separating sensor and transmitter,
install JP1 and JP2 over pins.
2.4.10 Sensorandtransmitterterminals
Beforewiring,ensurepower totheunitisswitchedoff.Connectthesensorwires tothesensor
terminals of the transmitter and connect the transmitter’s power and output terminals to the wiring
leadingto thepowersource/panel.Referto theconfigurationtablesbelowforsensoraswellas
transmitter power and output terminal designations.

2.4.11 Remotereset
If the alarm relays are configured for latching operation it may be desirable to reset latched alarms from
aremotelocation.Inthiscase anormallyopen,momentarypushbuttonswitchmaybe connected
across terminals RST and COM.

2.5 Sensorseparation/remote mounting of sensor
When itisnecessary to mount thesensor remotely (separated fromtransmitter),by way of junction
boxand conduit,itisimportantthat theinstallerfollowthe necessary requirementsand guidelines
relatingtosensorseparationand cableselection.See Figure2-9fortypicalremotemountingof sensor.

When sensors arebeing mounted remotely, consult the multi-purpose junctionbox manual
(MAN-0081) forwiring instructions. Alwaysensure thatthetransmitterissupplying10.5 - 32 VDC
across the sensor powerterminals (VDC + and COM) of Net Safety junction box (JB-MPD-A/S).
The maximumdistance between the sensorandtransmitter is limitedbytheresistanceofthe
connecting wiring,which is afunctionof thegauge of the wire being used. For effective
communication, Net Safety limits the separation distance between sensor and transmitter to 2000 feet
(600meters) using 16 AWG wire.SeeSection9forinformationon typical wire gauge andresistance.
