2 Safety
2.1 Safety instructions
– Observe labelling on the product.
– Prior to assembly, installation and maintenance work: Switch off power supply, ensure that it is
off and secure it against being switched back on.
– Store the product in a cool, dry, UV-protected and corrosion-protected environment. Ensure that
storage times are kept to a minimum.
– Observe tightening torques. Unless otherwise specified, the tolerance is±20%.
2.2 Intended use
The axis is intended to be used for positioning payloads in combination with tools or as a drive when
external guides are used. The axis is provided for cantilever and slide operation.

2.3 Foreseeable misuse
The axis is not approved for operating conditions in which vegetable and water-soluble greases or oils
can penetrate into the axis.
2.4 Training of specialised personnel
Installation, commissioning, maintenance and disassembly should only be conducted by qualified per-
sonnel.
The qualified personnel must be familiar with installation of electrical control systems.

A toothed belt which is attached at both sides converts the rotary movement of a motor into a linear
movement. The toothed belt moves the profile barrel forwards and backwards.

7 Mounting
7.1 Assembly
Motor selection
– Select the motors that are intended for combination with the axis from our catalogue
èwww.festo.com/catalogue.
The axis and motor will thus be perfectly harmonised with one another.
– Use the Festo engineering software “PositioningDrives” to design the axis èwww.festo.com.
– Observe the limit values for forces, torques and speeds è 14 Technical data. , .

7.2 Mounting
WARNING!
Risk of injury due to unexpected movement of components.
• Bring moving parts of the connected mechanical system into a secure position (e.g.move into the
lower end position).

NOTICE!
A warped attachment component bends the slide and shortens the service life of the guide.
• Use an attachment component with a flat surface and ensure evenness.

1. Place the axis on the attachment surface:
– Evenness of attachment surface: 0.01 mm.
– Prevent collisions of the cantilever and tool with attachments. In vertical cantilever operation,
the load should preferably be mounted directly under the centre of the guide.
– Keep the tilt moment resulting from the force (parallel to the axis of movement) and lever arm
as small as possible.
2. Fasten the axis with centring sleeves and screws to all threads 7.
3. Tighten the screws.

7.3 Attachment

1. Place the actuator on the axis.
Keep the tilt moment resulting from the force (parallel to the axis of movement) and lever arm as
small as possible.
2. Fasten the actuator using the centring sleeves and screws to all threads1.
3. Tighten screws evenly.

7.4 Mounting accessories
The following optional accessories are provided:
– Shock absorber kit
– Sensor bracket
– Adapter kit

8 Commissioning
WARNING!
Risk of injury due to unexpected movement of components.
• Protect the positioning range from unwanted intervention.
• Keep foreign objects out of the positioning range.
• Perform commissioning with low dynamic response.
Requirements
– The product is fully assembled and installed.
– The motor controller is parameterised and ready for operation.
– The positioning range is protected against access (e.g.with a protective grille) and free from for-
eign objects.
– The clamping unit (optional) is ventilated during commissioning.
Performing commissioning
1. Start control travel with low dynamic response (speed, acceleration) to check the direction of rota-
tion.
2. Carry out homing. The reference run may only be performed towards the reference switch
èInstruction manual for drive system.
3. Start a test run with low dynamic response.
Check whether the following requirements are fulfilled:
– The axis can move through the complete intended positioning cycle.
– The axis stops as soon as a limit switch is reached.
If the proximity sensors fail to respond: è 11.1 Fault clearanceand instructional manual for

9 Operation
1. Comply with operating conditions.
2. Comply with maintenance conditions è 10 Maintenance.
3. Only close the holding brake when the motor is switched off.
In cantilever mode, the service life can be increased if vibrations of the cantilever are reduced.
Remedial measures:
1. Use smoothing.
2. In vertical operation, the load should preferably be mounted directly under the centre of the
guide.
3. Minimise lateral accelerations of the entire cantilever axis.
10 Maintenance
10.1 Checking the toothed belt
WARNING!
Risk of injury due to falling loads if the toothed belt has broken.
Injury due to impacts or crushing.
• Check the toothed belt for wear and observe the service life.
• If there are signs of toothed belt wear, send the axis to Festo or contact Festo service
èwww.festo.com.
For cantilever axis ELCC-...-PU1:
1. Check the toothed belt for wear (e.g. toothed-belt friction) after 1000km of operating distance
and then after every 500km of operating distance.
2. If there are signs of toothed belt wear, send the axis to Festo or contact Festo service
èwww.festo.com.
NOTICE!
Retightening the toothed belt means increased wear and can cause the toothed belt to break.
• Do not adjust the toothed belt during operation.
10.2 Checking the cover strip
• Check the cover strip after every 2000 km of operating distance for the formation of waves.
Waves on the cover strip are a sign of wear on the belt reversal device.
Retighten the cover strip as follows whenever waves form:
1. Loosen the threaded pins[A] on the left cover è Fig.8. Do not adjust the threaded pins on the
right cover.
2. Push the cover strip into the left cover.
3. Tighten cover strip with a clamping element [B] è Fig.8.
The cover strip must not make contact with the inside top surface of the carriage.
4. Tighten threaded pins. Tightening torque: 2 Nm.

If the cover strip can no longer be retensioned:
• Replace belt reversal devices and cover strip èwww.festo.com/spareparts.
10.3 Cleaning
Do not clean the guide elements (e.g.guide rails).
1. Clean the product with a soft cloth. Do not use aggressive cleaning agents.
2. If necessary, remove cover.

Particles could arise during operation that affect the service life.
For operation with reduced particles emission:
• Remove the particles regularly.

3. Grease the guide at each of the two relubrication openings 1 and 2 è Fig.8.

NOTICE!
The lubrication interval Sint is dependent on the load acting on the product.
Load factors include e.g.:
• Dusty and dirty environment
•Nominal stroke > 2000mm or < 300mm
•Speed > 2m/s
•Ambient temperature > +40°C
•Service age of product > 3years
• Travel profile matches triangular operation (frequent acceleration and braking)
If one of these factors applies:
• Halve lubrication interval Sint.
If several factors apply at the same time:
• Divide service interval Sint by four.

11.1 Fault clearance
