Funktion und Anwendung
Der SME(O)-1 darf nicht zur Ansteue-
rung von 230 V AC (115 V AC) Ein-
gangskarten von SPS-Steuerungen ver-
wendet werden. Die SPS-Eingangskapa-
zität bewirkt eine zu hohe Einschaltlei-
stung für die SME(O)-1.
Der SME(O)-1 wird zur Abfrage von Kol-
benstellungen an Zylindern eingesetzt.
Der interne Reedkontakt wird magne-
tisch betätigt. Der SME(O)-1 schaltet im
angeschlossenen Zustand ein elektri-
sches Signal.

Function and use
The SME(O)-1 must not be used for
controlling the 230 V AC (115 V AC) in-
put cards of programmable logic control-
lers. The PLC input capacity effects too
great a switch-on capacity for the
(SME(O)-1.
It is to be used for interrogating piston
positions on cylinders. The internal reed
switch is operated magnetically. When
connected, the SME(O)-1 switches an
electrical signal.

Voraussetzungen für den
Produkteinsatz
Allgemeine, stets zu beachtende Hinwei-
se für den ordnungsgemäßen und siche-
ren Einsatz des Produkts:
•Halten Sie die angegebenen Grenz-
werte ein (z.B. Kräfte, Momente,
Temperaturen, elektrische Spannun-
gen).
•Berücksichtigen Sie die vorherr-
schenden Umgebungsbedingungen.
•Beachten Sie die Vorschriften der
Berufsgenossenschaft, des Techn.
Überwachungsvereins, die VDE-Bes-
timmungen oder entsprechende na-
tionale Bestimmungen.
•Verwenden Sie das Produkt im Orig-
inalzustand ohne jegliche eigen-

Einbau
mechanisch
Zur Änderung der Abgangsrichtung von
Kabel oder Stecker um 180o(an Bün-
den z.B. nach innen):
•Stecken Sie die Befestigungsplatte
gemäß Bild 2 und 3 um.
•Plazieren Sie den SME(O)-1 samt
Befestigungsbausatz verschiebbar
am Zylinder.
Bei magnetischen Störfeldern:
•Schützen Sie den den SME(O)-1
durch eine ferritische Abschirmung
vor Fremdbeeinflussung (z.B. mit
Trafoblech).
Bei Parallelanordnung von Magnet-
zylindern:
•Plazieren Sie die SME(O)-1 mö-
glichst weit auseinander. Damit ver-
meiden Sie gegenseitige Störun-
gen.
Fitting
Mechanical
In order to turn the cable or plug outlet
by 180o(on collars e.g. inwards):
•Turn the fastening plate (1) around
as shown in Figs. 2 and 3.
•Place the SME(O)-1 together with the
fastening kit on the cylinder but do not
fasten.
With magnetic fields of interference:
•The SME(O)-1 must be protected from
outside influences with ferritic screen-
ing (e.g. with transformer sheet steel).
If magnetic cylinders are arranged
parallel:
•Place the SME(O)-1 as far from
each other as possible, in order to
avoid reciprocal interference.

Bei SME(O)-1 mit Zweileiteranschluß
und SME(O)-1-S-24 B:
•Verwenden Sie diese Näherungs-
schalter nur mit Last. Sie erzeugen
sonst einen Kurzschluß.
•Beachten Sie, daß der Eigenwider-
stand dieser SME(O)-1 bei Ein-
schaltvorgängen kapazitiv ist
(siehe Technische Daten).
•Achten Sie bei den LED Typen auf
richtige Polung des Schalters bei
Betrieb mit Gleichspannung.
Nur so funktioniert die LED korrekt.
•Sorgen Sie für eine geeignet hohe
Betriebsspannung.
Der Spannungsabfall am Näher-
ungsschalter beträgt 2,5 bis 2,9 V.
Dieser addiert sich zum Spannung-
sabfall in Reihe geschalteter Ver-
braucher. Die minimal zulässige Be-
triebsspannung dieser Verbraucher
darf nicht unterschritten werden.
Electrical
The SME(O)-1 with two-wire connection
and the SME(O)-1-S-24 B:
•should only be used under load,
otherwise a short-circuit will be
generated.
•Please note that the inherent resist-
ance of this SME(O)-1 during
switch-on procedures is capacitive
(see Technical specifications).
•Please observe with the LED types
the correct polarity of the switch
when it is to be operated with DC
voltage. Only in this way will the
LED function correctly.
•Please ensure that the operating
voltage is sufficient.
The voltage drop on the proximity
switch is 2.5 to 2.9 V.
This drop amounts to a voltage
drop in series connected current
consuming devices. The minimum
permitted operating voltage of the
current consuming devices must
not drop below the minimum level
specified.

c) Three wire plug version
Bei allen SME(O)-1:
•Verdrahten Sie den SME(O)-1 nach
Plan a), b), c) oder d).
•Sichern Sie den SME(O)-1 durch
eine externe Schutzbeschaltung vor
Schädigung durch induktive und ka-
pazitive Lastspitzen.
Vorgefertigte Schutzbeschaltungen
sind in einigen Ventil-Zubehörteilen
integriert. Weitere Hinweise zu
Schutzbeschaltungen siehe
DIN 43 235.
With all switches of type SME(O)-1:
•Connect the SME(O)-1 as shown in
diagram a), b), c) or d).
•Protect the SME(O)-1 with an exter-
nal fuse circuit from damage by in-
ductive and capacitive load peaks.
Protective circuits have already
been incorporated into some valve
accessories. Further instructions on
protective circuits are to be found
in standard DIN 43 235.

With SME(O)-1 in plug version:
•Tighten the union nuts of the
sockets max. 0.3 Nm.
With SME(O)-1 in cable version:
•Ensure that the
cables are
- not squashed
- not bent at an angle
- not stretched.
Commissioning
•Switch on the operating voltage.
•Place the cylinder piston at the
position you wish to interrogate with
the SME(O)-1.
•Push the SME(O)-1 along the cylin-
der longitudinal axis until it switches.
•Tighten the following
screws:
- locking screw: max. 2.9 Nm
- threaded pin: max. 1.0 Nm

Bei SME(O)-1 in Steckerversion:
•Drehen Sie die Überwurfmuttern
der Dosen max. mit 0,3 Nm fest.
Bei SME(O)-1 in Kabelversion:
•Stellen Sie sicher, daß die Kabel
folgendermaßen verlegt sind
- quetschfrei
- knickfrei
- dehnungsfrei.
Inbetriebnahme
•Schalten Sie die Betriebsspannung
ein.
•Positionieren Sie den Zylinder-
kolben an der Stelle, die Sie mit
dem SME(O)-1 abfragen wollen.
•Verschieben Sie den SME(O)-1 ent-
lang der Zylinderlängsachse bis er
umschaltet.
•Drehen Sie folgende Schrauben
fest:
- Klemmschraube: max. 2,9 Nm
- Gewindestift: max. 1,0 Nm

6Ausbau und Reparatur
•Lösen Sie die elektrischen Verbin-
dungen des SME(O)-1.
•Das Federblech steht unter mechani-
scher Spannung und muß am un-
kontrollierten Wegspringen gehin-
dert werden.
•Ziehen Sie das Federblech vorsich-
tig vom Zapfen der Befestigung-
splatte.
Beim Austausch des SME(O)-1 gegen
einen anderen SME(O)-1:
•Lassen Sie den Befestigungsbau-
satz am Zylinder angeschraubt.
Ein neues Positionieren ist dann in der
Regel nicht erforderlich.

Dismantling and repairs
•Loosen the electrical connections of
the SME(O)-1.
•The spring plate is under mechan-
ical tension and must be prevented
from jumping away.
•Pull the spring plate carefully from
the pivot of the fastening plate.
When replacing the SME(O)-1 with an-
other SME(O)-1:
•Leave the fastening kit screwed to
the cylinder.
Renewed positioning is not then usually
necessary.
