TheSmartScalerangeofScalesisspecificallydesignedtoaccuratelyweighlive
animals.HowevertheGallagherrangeisalsowellsuitedtoweighingstaticloads
andcanbeusedforthispurposeinindustrialapplications.
Aswellasweighing,SmartScale800includesthefollowingfeatures;

CAREANDMAINTENANCE
TheSmartScale800isatoughandreliableproductdesignedforuseintypical
livestockenvironments.However,propercareandmaintenancecanextendits
life.
ListedbelowareguidelinesforkeepingtheSmartScaleingoodcondition:
Don'tsubmergetheScaleinanyliquid.
StoretheScaleinacool,dryplace.Avoidstoringitindirectsunlight
Afteruse,cleantheScalewithadampcloth.Takecarenottoscratchthe
display.
Fittheconnectorcapstokeeptheconnectionscleananddry.
First‐timeuse
WhenyouopentheScalethefirsttime,youwillfindthatthedisplayscreenis
coveredwithatransparentoverlay.Theoverlayisprintedwiththenumber630
andothercharacters.
RemovethisoverlaybeforestartingtousetheScale.Theoverlayiseasily
removedafterfirstgraspingthetab.

InstallingtheScalebracket
Thebracketcanbemountedonaflatverticalsurface,oronaroundpost.
Tomountthebracketona
flatverticalsurface,for
exampleasquarepostor
board,usetheouter
holes.
Tomountthebracketona
roundpost,usetheinner
holes.
Don'tmounttheScalebracketontheweighingcrateorchute.

Installingtheloadbars
Toinstalltheloadbars,followthesesteps:
Note:Fittheloadbarsasperthemanufacturer'sinstructions.
1. Bolttheplatformtotheloadbars.
2. Ensuretheplatformisplacedonaflatandlevelsurface.Makesureitisnot
touchinganyrailsorgates.
3. Eitherbolttheloadbarstotheconcretepadorlocatethemonstudssetinto
theconcrete.Thiswillpreventtheplatformfrommovingduringthe
weighingsession.
4. ConnecttheloadbarcablestotheScale.
Note:IfyouareusingnonGallagher,loadbarsensuretheloadbarsarecorrectly
calibrated.
InstallingtheScale
TheScalecanbeplacedonatabletopormountedontheScalebracketsupplied.
PositiontheScale:
clearoftheplatformtoensureitdoesnotinterferewiththeflowof
animalsduringtheweighingcycle
withineasyreachoftheloadbarleads
withineasyreachoftheoperator(formanualweighing),and
inawell‐litarea

POWERANDBATTERIES
Duringaweighingsession,theScalecanbepoweredbyitsinternalbatteryalone
orbyitsinternalbatteryandeitherthebatterychargeroranexternal12volt
battery.
ThebatterychargerconnectsbetweenanACoutletandtheScale.
Ifeitherthebatterychargeroranexternal12voltbatteryisconnectedtothe
Scale,theScale'sinternalbatterywillbechargedwhiletheScaleisinuse.
Foroptimumperformance,switchofftheScaleandchargeitsinternalbatteryfor
atleastfivehours.Whenfullycharged,theinternalbatteryonitsownwillpower
theScalecontinuouslyforaminimumofeighthours.
BatterylifemaybereducediftheScaleisbeingusedtopoweranElectronicID
reader.
Chargingthebattery
ThebatteryintheScalecanberechargedusingeitherabatterychargeroran
external12voltbattery.
Rechargingthebatterywilltakeuptofivehoursdependingonthelevelofcharge
alreadyinthebattery.TheScalecanbeinuseorcanbeswitchedoffwhilethe
batteryisbeingcharged.
Usingthebatterycharger
Tochargethebatteryusingthebatterycharger,followthesesteps:
1. ConnecttheleadbetweenthebatterychargerandtheScale.
2. PlugthebatterychargerintoanACoutletandswitchon.
3. OpentheScalecaseandmakesurethebatterychargeicon on
themainscreenisflashing.Thisindicatesthatthebatteryischargingand
willbedisplayedwhethertheScaleisturnedonoroff.

Usinganexternal12voltbattery
TochargetheScale'sinternalbatteryusinganexternal12voltbattery,follow
thesesteps:
1. ConnectthesuppliedblackandredbatteryleadstotheScale.
2. Connecttheotherendofthebatteryleadstothe12voltbattery.
ConnecttheRedcliptothePositiveterminal.
ConnecttheBlackcliptotheNegativeterminal.
3. OpentheScalecaseandmakesurethebatterychargeicon on
themainscreenisflashing.Thisindicatesthatthebatteryischargingand
willbedisplayedwhethertheScaleisturnedonoroff.
Batterychargestatus
ThebatteryicondisplaysinthebottomleftcorneroftheScale'supperscreen.
Itisimportanttonotethatthebatteryiconwillonlyevershowtheactual
amountofchargeleftinthebatterywhentheScaleisturnedonand
disconnectedfromexternalpower.
FullyChargedBatteryIconbarsarealldisplayedconstantly.
Partially
Charged
BatteryIconshowsfirstfourbarsconstantly.
BatteryFlatNoBatteryIconbarsaredisplayed.
WhentheScaleisconnectedtotheexternalpowersupplythebatteryiconwill
displaythechargingstatus.
ChargingBatteryIconshowsallthebarsconstantlyfilling
andthendisappearing.
ToppingUpBatteryIconshowsthefirstfourbarsconstantly
fullandtheremainderfillingandthen
disappearing.
TrickleChargeBatteryIconshowsonlyoneemptybarthatis
constantlytravellingthelengthofthefullIcon.

Lowbatterywarning
Whenthechargeremaininginthebatterydropstoaverylowlevel,thebattery
chargeiconontheScalewillstarttoflashandfourbeepswillsoundevery30
seconds.Afterabout15minutes,theScalewillshutdown.
Lowvoltageshutdown
Whenthebatterychargedropstoacriticallevel,theScalewillshutdown.Atthis
stageitisnecessarytorechargethebattery.
Batteryvoltagewarning
IfthevoltagesuppliedfromthechargertotheScaleisnotwithintherequired
range(10.5V‐15V)orthebatterytemperaturerisesabove120°FtheScalewill
beepandthebatterychargeiconwillstarttoflash.Itisimportantthatyou
removethechargerfromtheScaleimmediately.

Fivesoftkeysarearrangedalongthebottomofthelowerscreen.Thefunctionof
thesesoftkeyschangesdependingonwhatthelowerscreendisplays.Forany
givenscreen,notallsoftkeyshaveafunction.Thosethatdoarelabelledinthe
screen.

Themodeselectswitch
TheScalecanoperateinthreeweighingmodesandasetupmode.
ThemodeselectswitchislocatedonthelefthandsideoftheScale.
Themodeselectswitchhasfivepositions: ,A,M,FandS.Immediatelyafter
youturntheswitchtoanypositionexcept,explanatoryinformationwill
displayonthelowerofthetwoScalescreens.Theexplanatoryinformationwill
displayonlyforafewseconds;afteritdisappears,thescreendisplays
informationrelevanttotheselectedoption.
ThispositionturnstheScaleoff.
AThispositionselectsweighinginAutomaticmode.
YoucanalsostoreElectronicIDsandupdatetheScale'scross‐
referencetablewhentherearenoloadbarsconnected.
MThispositionselectsweighinginManualmode.
Youcanalsorecordanimalinformation,withoutweighing,when
therearenoloadbarsconnected.
FThispositionselectsweighinginFinemode.Itisdesignedforstatic‐
loadweighing.Static‐loadweighingcanoccurinstandardortrait
sessions..

SETUP
ToaccesstheSetupmenu,turnthemodeselectswitchtoS.
ThesetupmenudisplaysonthelowerofthetwoscreensontheScale.Insetup
mode,themainscreennormallydisplaysthetimein24hourformat.Every
minutethemainscreenmomentarilydisplaysthedate,thenautomatically
revertstodisplayingthetimeagain.
Thesetupmenucontainssixoptions:
1. SORTMENU‐selectthesortingmodeandspecifythesortinglimit(s).
2. SESSIONMENU‐selectasessionandview,printordeletethesession.
3. SETTIMEANDDATE‐setthecurrenttimeanddate.
4. USEROPTIONS‐selectweightunits,turnVisualTagNumbercheckingonor
off,turnliveprintingonoroff,turnADGdisplayonoroff.
5. COMMUNICATIONS‐setupaconnectiontoacomputer,printer,Electronic
IDreaderorotherexternaldeviceandenablesortingviatheautoSorter.
6. SELECTCOUNTRY‐foraspecificcountry,selectsalanguageandcountry‐
specificterminologyandweightunit.
