Welcome to the garden of GARDENA...
Please read these operating instructions carefully and observe the
notes given. Use these operating instructions to familiarise yourself
with the Backpack Sprayer, its proper use and the notes on safety.
For safety reasons, children and young people under 16 as well
as anyone not familiar with these operating instructions may not
use the Backpack Sprayer.

1. Where to Use Your GARDENA Backpack Sprayer
The GARDENA Backpack Sprayer is intended for distributing
solvent-free liquid pesticides1), herbicides 1), fertilisers 1), window
cleaners 1), and car wax 1) in domestic gardens and allotments.
It must not be used in public places, parks, sport arenas, or in
agriculture or forestry.
Compliance with the operating instructions provided by the manu-
facturer is a prerequisite for using the Backpack Sprayer correctly.
1) In accordance with the laws governing the use of pesticides and detergents,
only authorised substances may be used (authorised specialist shop).
Due of the risk of physical injury, the GARDENA Backpack
Sprayer must not be used for spraying substances other
than those specified by GARDENA. Do not use your Back-
pack Sprayer for spraying acids, disinfectants or water-
proofing agents.
We recommend that you only use pesticides approved by the BBA
(German Federal Biological Research Centre for Agriculture and
Forestry). To our knowledge at the time of manufacturing the Back-
pack Sprayer, the pesticides approved by the BBA will not damage
the materials used to construct the Backpack Sprayer.
When spraying insecticides, herbicides and fungicides or other
liquid plant protection products, you must comply with all special
precautionary measures specified by the manufacturer of the
product you are using.

2. For Your Safety
VNever open the Backpack Sprayer or unscrew the
sprayer handle when the Backpack Sprayer is still pres-
surised.
VAlways release the pressure completely before opening
the Backpack Sprayer by pressing the pushbutton of the
sprayer handle.
VAfter using your Backpack Sprayer, always release the
pressure then empty, carefully clean and rinse the tank
in clean water. Leave the Backpack Sprayer open and
allow it to dry (see 5. Maintenance).
vAlways clean the Backpack Sprayer before using a different
product to avoid chemical reactions.
vTo prevent reactions with the products you are using, never
use aggressive cleaning agents that contain solvent or
petrol.
vCheck the Backpack Sprayer for possible damages before
each use.
Never leave your Backpack Sprayer unattended or for long
periods when full and pressurised.
vKeep the Backpack Sprayer out of the reach of children.
You are responsible for the safety of others.
vKeep your Backpack Sprayer away from heat sources and
hot environments.
The tank cap is equipped with a pressure relief valve. This valve
draws in air to equalise the pressure inside the tank and pre-
vents liquid leaking out if the Backpack Sprayer falls over.

3. Assembly
1. Pull each unstitched end of the carrying
strap 1approx. 2 to 3 cm through the
metal buckles 2.
2. Pull the carrying strap 1through the
opening 5under the carrying handle
so that the strap adjuster 7is at the
front.
3. Push the strap lock 6sideways into
the carrying strap 1.
4. Pull back the carrying strap 1
until the strap lock 6prevents the
carrying strap from sliding out.
5. Pull the metal buckles 2onto the
lugs 3on the bottom of the Backpack Sprayer until you hear
them click into place.
If you are right-handed the pump lever

should be on the
left-hand side so that you can hold the spray lance in your
right hand.

Attaching the sprayer head to the handle:
1. Push the sprayer head 9all the way into the sprayer handle A.
2. Push the sprayer lock 0all the way into the sprayer handle A.
3. Screw the sprayer head 9onto the sprayer handle Aby hand
using the union nut 8(do not use pliers).
Attaching the sprayer handle to the hose:

5. Push the filter Dinto the sprayer handle A.
6. Push the hose Conto the filter D.
7. Screw the hose Conto the sprayer handle Aby hand using
the union nut B(do not use pliers).
Attaching the hose to the pump:

9. Push the connector Einto the pump F.
10. Push the hose Conto the connector E.
11. Screw the hose Conto the pump Fby hand using the union
nut B(do not use pliers).
4. Operation
1. Thoroughly stir the product you are going to use.
2. Unscrew the tank cap G.
3. Pour in the product up to the highest mark (12 litres).
Always comply with the precautionary measures and correct
dosage specified by the product manufacturer.
4. Fit the tank cap Gand screw tight by hand (do not use pliers).

3. Press down the pump lever 4repeatedly (approx. 7- 9 times)
until it becomes more difficult to press the lever and you feel
resistance.
4. Press the button Hon the sprayer handle.
The Backpack Sprayer starts spraying.
5. Release the button Hon the sprayer handle.
The Backpack Sprayer stops spraying.
1. Loosen the union nut I.
2. Pull out the spray lance Jto the desired length.
3. Tighten the union nut Iagain.
You can adjust the spray jet from full jet (nozzle open) to a
fine mist (nozzle closed).
vOpen or close the nozzle Kto adjust the spray jet as
required.
5. Maintenance
You must clean your Backpack Sprayer after each use.
1. Press the button Hon the sprayer handle and release the
pressure through the spray lance.
2. Unscrew tank cap G. If the outside of the cap is dirty, thorough-
ly clean the area around the thread and thread O-ring L.
3. Clean the inlet filter Mand tank cap Gin clean water.
4. Empty the tank and fill with clean water (with detergent added
to the water if necessary).
5. Spray the water out of the Backpack Sprayer until the tank
is empty.
This cleans the nozzle and valves.
6. Leave the Backpack Sprayer open and allow it to dry.
Do not dispose of residual products by pouring them into the
sewerage system. Please contact your local disposal centre
and ask about proper disposal of the products you have used.
We recommend that you have your Backpack Sprayer thorough-
ly inspected (preferably at a GARDENA Service Centre) after
using it for 5 years.

6. Trouble-Shooting
1. Unscrew the union nut Band pull the hose Cwith filter D
out of the sprayer handle A.
2. Rinse the filter Dunder running water.
3. Reattach the sprayer handle (see 3. Assembly “Attaching the
sprayer handle to the hose”).
If the pump does not provide pressure after cleaning your Back-
pack Sprayer you must also clean the pump.
1. Push out the locking ring N(using a screwdriver, for example)
and pull the joint rod Oout of the pump F.
2. Unscrew the union ring Pand pull out the pump F.
3. Inspect the pump O-ring Sand install a new O-ring if neces-
sary.
4. Pull out the inner part of the pump Rand the gasket S.
5. Clean all pump parts and gaskets with water (and detergent).
6. Reassemble the pump in the reverse order.
When assembling the pump ensure that the pump gaskets are
seated properly after installation and are not squashed.

7. Storage
Always keep your Backpack Sprayer out of the reach of children.
vBefore storing, loosen the tank cap and clean your Backpack
Sprayer (see 5. Maintenance). Store your Backpack Sprayer
away from frost.

10. Service
GARDENA guarantees this product for 2 years (from date of
purchase). This guarantee covers all serious defects of the unit
that can be proved to be material or manufacturing faults. Under
warranty we will either replace the unit or repair it free of charge
if the following conditions apply:
•The unit must have been handled properly and in keeping with
the requirements of the operating instructions.
•Neither the purchaser or a non-authorised third party have
attempted to repair the unit.
The pump gasket and pump lever bearing are wearing parts
and are therefore not covered by the warranty.
This manufacturer’s guarantee does not affect the user’s existing
warranty claims against the dealer/ seller.
If you have any problems with your Backpack Sprayer, please
contact our Customer Service or return the defective unit to-
gether with a short description of the problem directly to one of
the GARDENA Service Centres listed on the back of this leaflet.

units if it is due to improper repair or if parts exchanged are not
original GARDENA parts or parts approved by us, and, if the
repairs were not carried out by a GARDENA Service Centre or
