Important Safety Information
Look for Safety Symbol
The SAFETY ALERT SYMBOL indicates there is a potential
hazard to personal safety involved and extra safety precaution
must be taken. When you see this symbol, be alert and
carefully read the message that follows it. In addition to design
and configuration of equipment, hazard control and accident
prevention are dependent upon the awareness, concern,
prudence and proper training of personnel involved in the
operation, transport, maintenance and storage of equipment.
Be Aware of Signal Words
Signal words designate a degree or level of hazard seriousness.
DANGER indicates an imminently hazardous situation which,
if not avoided, will result in death or serious injury. This signal
word is limited to the most extreme situations, typically for
machine components that, for functional purposes, cannot be
guarded.
WARNING indicates a potentially hazardous situation which,
if not avoided, could result in death or serious injury, and
includes hazards that are exposed when guards are removed. It
may also be used to alert against unsafe practices.
CAUTION indicates a potentially hazardous situation which,
if not avoided, may result in minor or moderate injury. It may
also be used to alert against unsafe practices.
Use Adequate Lifting Means
The frame sections and harrows of this machine are
extremely heavy. If using multiple lifters, make sure each
is rated for at least its share of the load.
Prepare for Emergencies
Be prepared if a fire starts
Keep a first aid kit and fire extinguisher handy.
Keep emergency numbers for doctor, ambulance, hospital
and fire department near phone.
Be Familiar with Safety Decals
Read and understand the “Safety Decals” section of the
Operators Manual.
Read all instructions noted on the decals.
Keep decals clean. Replace damaged, faded and illegible
decals.

Wear Protective Equipment
Wear protective clothing and equipment.
Wear clothing and equipment appropriate for the job.
Avoid loose-fitting clothing.
Because prolonged exposure to loud noise can cause
hearing impairment or hearing loss, wear suitable
hearing protection such as earmuffs or earplugs.
Because operating equipment safely requires your full
attention, avoid wearing entertainment headphones while
operating machinery.
Avoid High Pressure Fluids
Escaping fluid under pressure can penetrate the skin, causing
serious injury.
Avoid the hazard by relieving pressure before
disconnecting hydraulic lines.
Use a piece of paper or cardboard, NOT BODY PARTS, to
check for suspected leaks.
Wear protective gloves and safety glasses or goggles when
working with hydraulic systems.
If an accident occurs, seek immediate medical assistance
from a physician familiar with this type of injury.
Use Safety Lights and Devices
Slow-moving tractors and towed implements can create a
hazard when driven on public roads. They are difficult to see,
especially at night.
Use flashing warning lights and turn signals whenever
driving on public roads.
Use lights and devices provided with implement.
Keep Riders Off Machinery
Riders obstruct the operator’s view. Riders could be struck by
foreign objects or thrown from the machine.
Never allow children to operate equipment.
Keep all bystanders away from machine during operation.
Shutdown and Storage
Lower implement, put tractor in park, turn off engine, and
remove the key.
Secure Flex Harrow using blocks and supports provided.
Detach and store Flex Harrow in an area where children
normally do not play.

Tire Safety
Tire changing can be dangerous and should be performed by
trained personnel using correct tools and equipment.
When inflating tires, use a clip-on chuck and extension
hose long enough for you to stand to one side–not in front
of or over tire assembly. Use a safety cage if available.
When removing and installing wheels, use wheel-handling
equipment adequate for weight involved.
Safety At All Times
Thoroughly read and understand the instructions in this
manual before operation. Read all instructions noted on the
safety decals.
Be familiar with all machine functions.
Operate machinery from the driver’s seat only.
Do not leave machine unattended with tractor engine
running.
Do not stand between the tractor and machine during
hitching.
Keep hands, feet and clothing away from power-driven
parts.
Wear snug-fitting clothing to avoid entanglement with
moving parts.
Watch out for wires, trees, etc., when folding and raising
machine. Make sure all persons are clear of working area.

Introduction
The CT8300 Flex Harrow has been designed with care and
built by skilled workers using quality materials. Proper setup,
maintenance, and safe operating practices will help the
customer get years of satisfactory use from the machine.
Description of Unit
The CT8300 Flex Harrow is a heavy-duty flexible-link spike
harrow. It is a pull-type implement intended for towing
directly behind a tractor, or behind another implement. The
outer sections fold up and forward for transport.

Using This Manual
This manual was written to help you assemble and pre-
pare the new machine for the customer. The manual
includes instructions for assembly and setup. Read this
manual and follow the recommendations for safe, effi-
cient and proper assembly and setup.
An operator’s and parts manual is also provided with the
new machine. Read and understand “Important Safety
Information” and “Operating Instructions” in the oper-
ator’s manual before assembling the machine. Refer to
the parts manual for proper part’s identification. As a ref-
erence, keep the operator’s and part’s manual on hand
while assembling.
The information in this manual is current at printing.
Some parts may change to assure top performance.
Definitions
The following terms are used throughout this manual.
A crucial point of information related to the preceding topic.
Read and follow the directions to remain safe, avoid serious
damage to equipment and ensure desired field results.
Useful information related to the preceding topic.
Right-hand and left-hand as used in this
manual are determined by facing the
direction the machine will travel while in
use unless otherwise stated. An orientation
rose in some line art illustrations shows the
directions of: Up, Back, Left, Down, Front,
Right.
Shipping
The Flex Harrow will be shipped partially pre-assembled.
The wing frames will be banded together on a pallet.
Hydraulics will need hooked up and charged after center and
wing frames are assembled.
• The frame will be shipped partially assembled,
•All fasteners, cables hoses and light brackets will be
shipped in a box.
•Drag Harrows will be sent banded together.

Unloading
Be sure the truck is on level ground, preferably concrete.
Centering components:
Be sure and center fork truck or chains (overhead hoist) on
components so they won’t slide and cause injury.
1. Check the serial number on the mainframe against the
shipping manifest. Major sub-assemblies, wrapped pallets
and crates will be marked with this same serial number.
2. Remove crates and pallets marked for the implement to be
unloaded. Spot them clear of the designated assembly
area.
3. Remove any other major sub-assemblies secured to the
trailer deck, other than the harrow mainframe. Spot them
clear of the designated assembly area.
4. Depending on the dock available, it may be possible to
tow the mainframe off the truck.
Otherwise, hoist or lift the mainframe, and have the truck
driven out from under it.
Unpacking Boxes
Position boxes in area that you can maneuver
components up to machine to assemble.
5. Carefully remove banding from boxes.
6. Carefully remove banding from drag arms and harrow
curtains.
7. Locate and identify all components before assembling.
Key hoist objectives are:
•Use at least 3 hoist lines.
•Use implement structures suitable for the frame’s weight.
•Keep the implement center of gravity inside the lines.
•Attach so that lines cannot slip toward center or slip off if
the load tilts.
•Use lines that are individually rated for at least half the
load.
•Watch out for load swing as it leaves ground contact.

Assembly
Center Transport
If your machine is equipped with dual tires be sure that the long side of the walking beam is on the outside of the
frame before installing. If the walking beams are not in the correct location then the inside tires will not clear the
frame.
1. On models 33-60 you will install walking beams (1) on center frame (2), there is a walking beam spacer (3) on each side of
the frame, this must be installed in between the frame and the walking beam.
2. Models 18-30 will not have walking beams, the hubs (6) will install directly to the frame.
3. The walking beam pivot pin (4) will need to be installed through the walking beam, secured with a 34x 412hex bolt (5) and
a 34 lock nut.
4. Install hubs(6) and tires(7), use corresponding hardware to secure to walking beam.

Tongue to Center Frame
The tongue will be shipped pre-assembled, and may be
attached to the center frame. See “Parts Manual” for part
numbers and description of parts.
5. If the center frame (1) is not already attached to the hitch
frame (2) use 34x 212 hex bolts (3), 34 lock washers and
nuts to secure the frame sections together.
6. Remove 12 x 258 hex bolt (4) and 12 lock nut from hinge
pins (5)
(on models 18-30 the hinge pin is 1.25 x9.0, and on
models 33-60 the pins are 1.25 x 11 pins) on rear of center
frame assembly (1).
7. Attach center wing frame (6) to center frame assembly
(1), re-install the pins (5), 12 x 2 hex bolts (4) and 12 lock
nuts to secure.
8. On models 27-42 attach the wing rests (7) to the center
frame (1) using 34x 214 hex bolts (8), 34 lock washers
and nuts.
9. On models 57 & 60 the wing rest will have an extension
(9), attach the extension to the center frame (1) using
34x 212hex bolts (10), 34 lock washers and nuts.
10. Attach the wing rest (11) to the extension (9) using
34x 212hex bolts (10), 34 lock washers and nuts.
11. Tighten all bolts with lock nuts snug, but do not torque.
The rest of bolts may be tightened to specs, See “Torque
Values Chart” on page 27.

12. Safety decals (1) should already be installed on the hitch. Orange and red safety reflectors (2) may need installed on the light
brackets before installing and on the back on the center wing frame.
13. If decals are not already installed, clean the area on which the decals are to be placed, peel backing from decal. Press firmly
on surface, being careful not to cause air bubbles under the decal. See “Parts Manual” for decal break down.
Wing Adjust Bolts
The wing adjustment bolts should come factory installed at
around 212inches from the top of the plate to the top of the
bolt head. Check that the jam nut is tight against the welded
nut.
This bolt may need to be adjusted up or down so that
the wings fold in and rest in the wing cradles. This
measurement will very depending on the model of
the machine.

Wing Frames
Locate wing hardware pins, these may be installed
in the location on the wing frames. You will need 2 -
1.24” x 10” hinge pin and 2 - 1.24’ x8” to secure the
wing frames to the center wing frame. If the pin
spirols are not already in the hing pins be sure to
press them in before installing in the frames.
14. Block the center wing frame up or use a assembly stand
to make the center wing frame level with the center
frame.
15. Attach the wing frames (1) to the center wing frame (2).
The 114” washers (3) are used as spacers on the inside of
the hinge ears. If possible use 2 (1 on each side) of the
front frame tube and use 1 inside of the hinge on the rear
frame tube.
16. Use the 1.24 x10” (4), 1.24 x 8” (5) and 1” flat washer
(6) and lock nut to secure the wing frames.
17. Attach base end of fold cylinders (7) to center wing
frame (2), secure with 1 x 318 pin (8), 1.5 x 1.00 x .075
machine washers and 316 x 2 cotter pins. Bend cotter
pins over to secure.
18. Do not hook up rod end of cylinders (7) to center wing
frame (1) until hydraulics are completely hooked up and
purge of air. See “Hydraulic Purging” on page 17
19. If your model has wing frame extensions (9) install them
before installing the drag arms. Use 34x 2 bolt (10),
lock washers and nuts.
20. Tighten all bolts with lock nuts snug, but do not torque.
The rest of bolts may be tightened to specs, See “Torque
Values Chart” on page 27
Gauge Wheels
21. Attach the gauge wheel bracket (11) to either the wing
frame or the frame extension, using 34x 2 (12), the
gauge wheel strap (13), 34x 812 (14) lock washers and
nuts.
22. Once the gauge wheel bracket (11) is attached install the
hub and tire (15). Use 516 x 314 hex bolt (16) and 516
lock nut.

Hydraulics Models CT8300-18 to 30
Hoses will be installed at the factory on the hitch and on
the center frame. They will need hooked together at the
bulk head fittings plate. See Hydraulics in “Parts Manual”
for part numbers and descriptions of fittings and hoses.
1. Attach sequencing valve (4) to center frame with
516 x 312 hex bolts (5), and 516 lock washers.
2. Tighten all bolts with lock nuts snug, but do not torque.
3. Be sure the 3 orifice plates have been installed (6) one in
each rod end of fold cylinders (7) before installing the 90
degree elbows (8) and 1 orifice plate in the extend hose on
the hitch, where the hose handles are attached.
4. Attach the 90 degree elbows (8) to the base end of the fold
cylinders (7) and the front ports of the sequencing valve
(eight total).
5. Install 90 degree fittings in the base end of the lift
cylinders (9) and 45 degree fittings in the rod end (10).
6. On each side of the sequencing valve (4) a straight
fitting (11) will need installed into the front upper port.
7. The back lower ports on the left hand side will get tee
fittings (12) with one outlet facing toward the rear of the
machine.
8. Attach hoses (13) to the front of the bulkhead fittings (14),
then the following hoses (15) to the front of sequencing
valve. The extend hose attaches to the top port.
9. The 2 hoses (16) that attach to the straight fittings (11) on
either side of the valve route to the base end of the lift
cylinders.
10. The hoses (17) that attach to the outside facing port of the
tee fittings (12) route to the rod end of the lift
cylinders (9).
11. The hose (18) that attach to the back of the valve (4) will
attach to a tee fitting (19) near the cylinder fold bracket.
There will be 2 hoses (20) that attach to the outside ports
of this tee they will attach to the base end of the fold
cylinders (7).
12. The hoses (21) that attach to the back facing ports of the
tees (12) will route to the rod end of the fold cylinders.
13. Route proper hoses length from “Parts Manual” as shown
in the following image.
14. Do not hook up rod end of cylinders (7) and (9) until
hydraulics are completely hooked up and purge of air, See
“Hydraulic Purging” on page 17
15. Tighten all fittings and hoses, See “Hydraulic
Connectors and Torque” on page 28. Attach hose
clamps and wraps in positions shown. See “Attach Hose
Clamps and Hose Wraps” on page 16 for proper clamp
mounting.

Hoses will be installed at the factory on the hitch and on
the center frame. They will need hooked together at the
bulk head fittings plate. See Hydraulics in “Parts Manual”
for part numbers and descriptions of fittings and hoses.
16. Attach sequencing valve (4) to center frame with
516 x 312 hex bolts (5), and 516 lock washers. Tighten all
bolts with lock nuts snug, but do not torque.

the hitch, where the hose handles are attached.
18. Attach the 90 degree elbows (8) to the base end of the fold

19. Install 90 degree fittings in the base end of the lift
cylinders (9) and 45 degree fittings in the rod end (10).
20. On each side of the sequencing valve (4) a straight
fitting (11) will need installed into the front upper port.
21. One of the back lower ports on the left hand side will get a
tee (12) with one outlet facing toward the rear of the
machine. The right hand side rear bottom port will get a
straight fitting (11).
22. Attach hoses (13) to the front of the bulkhead fittings (14),
then the following hoses (15) to the front of sequencing
valve. The extend hose attaches to the top port.
23. The 2 hoses (16) that attach to the straight fittings (11) on
either side of the valve route to the base end of the lift
cylinders.
24. The hose (17) that attach to the outside facing port of the
tee fitting, left hand side, (12) routes out to the rod end of
the lift cylinders. On the right hand side of the valve the
hose (18) that attaches to the straight fitting (11) routes out
to the rod end of the lift cylinder (9).
25. The hose (22) that attach to the back of the valve (4) and
the hose(23) coming off the tee on the right hand side will
attach to the double tee block (19) on the fold cylinder
bracket.
26. The top 2 hoses (20) that attach to the sides of the double
tee they will attach to the base end of the fold cylinders
(7).
27. The hoses (21) that attach to bottom side ports of the
double tee will route to the rod end of the fold
cylinders (7).
28. Do not hook up rod end of cylinders (7) and (9) until
hydraulics are completely hooked up and purge of air, See
“Hydraulic Purging” on page 17
29. Tighten all fittings and hoses, See “Hydraulic
Connectors and Torque” on page 28. Attach hose
clamps and wraps in positions shown. See “Attach Hose
Clamps and Hose Wraps” on page 16 for proper clamp
mounting.

Attach Hose Clamps and Hose Wraps
30. When all the hoses are hooked up and tightened properly,
put hose clamps on hoses as shown.
31. Install hose wraps on hoses as needed.
Be sure and get hoses and light wiring harness
fastened properly so they do not drag. Check to be
sure there is enough slack in hinge area when folding
machine the first time.
Hydraulic Hose Hookup
32. Great Plains hydraulic hoses are color coded to help you
hookup hoses to your tractor outlets. Hoses that go to the
same remote valve are marked with the same color.
Hose Handles
33. To distinguish hoses on the same hydraulic circuit, refer to
hose handles. The hose under an extended-cylinder
symbol feeds a cylinder base end. The hose under a
retracted-cylinder symbol feeds a cylinder rod end.
34. Once all hoses are tightened, hook hoses to tractor.

High Pressure Fluid Hazard:
Relieve pressure before disconnecting hydraulic lines. Use
paper or cardboard, NOT BODY PARTS, to check for leaks.
Wear protective gloves and safety glasses or goggles when
working with hydraulic systems. Escaping fluid under pressure
can have sufficient pressure to penetrate the skin causing
serious injury. If an accident occurs, seek immediate medical
assistance from a physician familiar with this type of injury.
Only trained personnel should work on system hydraulics.
