Track assembly
Internal curve tracks
An inside curve track is one that runs around the
shortest side of the staircase such that the track
bends away from you when you look at the stairs.
An example of an inside curve track can be seen in
Appendix 5.
The installation of an inside curve and outside curve
track is identical until very near to completion of the
installation. The additional steps that are required are
featured in the corresponding part of the installation
manual (page 17).
Hinge track installations
A hinge track is a folding section of track that can be
moved away from the bottom of the stairs so that it
does not cause an obstruction or hazard.
Note: See Appendix 3 for hinge track settings.
1The hinge track section must be installed before
the rest of the track.
aPosition the hinge track section in to the feet
with the back of each foot 60 mm from the
stringer or line of any obstruction, e.g. window
sill (Figure 2).
bRelease the motor by pressing on the motor
release to allow the arm of the hinge to be
moved.
cLower the arm and position the hinge on
the treads correctly so that the track reaches
the floor.
dThe grey wire with a bullet connector must
be connected to all of the communication
contacts on the top track. In order to achieve
this connection you should:
iPull some grey cable from the hinge to the
first comms contact in the TOP tube.
ii In the BOTTOM tube pull a red and a
grey cable from the first +ve charge contact
to the top of the stairs (Figure 3). The
connection of these will be covered in the
Track Electrical Connection section.

Track assembly
eFollow the normal track installation procedure
from step 2 to complete the installation.
fOnce the track installation is complete cut
any excess threaded rod protruding from
the top of the foot to prevent it stopping
the lift early.
Note: If the top communications contacts are
not connected to the hinge section the lift will
not work.
2In the drawing shown in Appendix 1 the first
section is actually a straight section with a
gradient decrease section manufactured as a
single piece of track. The straight section (2)
has 152 teeth (152 S) and it is 1671mm long.
The gradient decrease section (4) has 28 teeth
(28 GD R665) and it is bent on a 665mm
radius. The protective packaging that the track
is delivered in will be marked to indicate the
track section or sections that it contains and
whether or not it is a top track or bottom track
section (Figure 4).
Note: Do not remove the blue rack protection
cover at this stage.
Stanchion information
1The drawing shown in Figure 5 has a table
which shows the length of the stanchion that
has to be inserted at each position. There are
four different types of stanchion which will
be adjusted to the correct height. To ease
identification these have been labelled with
a letter, A,B,C or D.
2Each stanchion can be adjusted to the
required height using the ‘setting height’ guide.
3Grease the stanchion lugs as you go.
No. – The foot number.
Rail – The section of rail that the stanchion
fixes to.
Tooth – The corresponding tooth on the
section of track that the stanchion should
be positioned.
Distance – The distance of the track joint
that the stanchion is positioned.
Length – The length of the stanchion.
Type – The type of stanchion required.
There are four versions.
Setting height – using the size guide
provided on each stanchion. This is the
size that the stanchion needs to be set too.

First section
1 Set the furthest bottom stanchion at the
correct height. (Example:- Stanchion 16 –
Type A – Setting height = 74mm
2Set the last section before the first joint to the
correct height (Figure 6). Tighten the lock
bolt to 45Nm (Figure 7).
3Attach the top rail on to the two stanchions.
Use stanchion/rail bolts supplied (Figure 8).
Note: See note for specified torques.
4Attach the bottom rail.
5Fasten the feet down to provide additional
stability for the rest of track.
Second section
1 Set the next stanchion at the correct height
ready for the second section of rail. This
needs to be placed just before the joint.
2Add the next sections of rail. Top section
first and then the bottom section. Use a
podger spanner tool to help ease the two
sections of rail together (Figure 9).
3Set the next stanchion at the correct
height two down from the previous one
nearest the joint.

Third section
1 Set the next stanchion one down from
the last stanchion at the top of the stairs.
2Add the top rail section.
3Set the next stanchion from the one above.
4Add the bottom rail section.
5Install all of the remaining stanchions without
adjusting the height.
6Add all of the track bolts. These should
be hand-tightened to a torque of 25Nm
(Figure 10).
7Check all stanchion heights and tighten the
stanchions (Figure 11).
Note: For multi-flight stairs push cable
through each separate section of rail.
8Fasten some of the screws to the stanchion
feet, typically two per metre, to hold the
rail captive, allowing the power pack to be
installed and checked.
Note: Care must be taken to ensure the rail
is secure enough to carry out the installation
and checks; add more screws if required.

1Use the pull through that you fitted inside the
track to pull the red cable through the track
(Figure 12).
2Decide if the power supply will be installed at
the top or bottom of the staircase.
3Remove the end caps from the bottom track
at the top and bottom of the stairs (Figure 13).
4Connect the positive charge contact to the
cable that you pulled through the track at
the top and bottom of the stairs using the
supplied terminal blocks.
Hinge track installations
Each stanchion next to a charge comms contact
should be drilled (Figure 14). For the first
occurrence of charge comms contacts you must:
aConnect the grey cable from the hinge
track to the grey cable that you have pulled
through the top track.
bInsulate this connection and push it through
the hole in the front of the track.
cFeed the grey cable from behind the
comms contact out of the track and into the
stanchion and out of the top of the stanchion.
dConnect the comms contact to the grey wire
in the top track using a connector block.
eConnect some more grey cable to this
connector block and feed it into the
stanchion and out of the top of the stanchion.
fInsulate the connector block behind the
comms contact and then push it into
the track.
gConnect the two grey cables that are
protruding from the top of the stanchion
with a connector block, insulate and then
push in to the top of the stanchion.
For every further intermediate comms contact:
aPull the grey wire out of the bottom track
behind the charge contact.
bSplice a length of grey cable from this and
feed it in to the stanchion and out of the
top of the stanchion.
cFeed the grey wire from the comms contact
in to the stanchion and out of the top of the
stanchion.
dConnect the two grey cables that are
protruding from the top of the stanchion
with a connector block, insulate and then
push in to the top of the stanchion.
For the top comms contact:
aPull the grey wire out of the bottom track
behind the charge contact.
bFeed the grey wire into the stanchion and
out of the top of the stanchion.
cFeed the grey wire from the comms contact
into the stanchion and out of the top of the
stanchion.
dConnect the two grey cables that are
protruding from the top of the stanchion
with a connector block, insulate and then
push in to the top of the stanchion.
5At the end of the track that you will be
connecting the power supply to continue
the installation as follows:
aRemove top or bottom stanchion from rail.
bRemove the paint from the stanchion and
rail (Figures 15 and 16).
cInsert the negative charge connection ring
terminal between the bottom stanchion
lug and bottom rail section (Figure 17).
Insert stanchion bolt to hold in place.

dFeed the grey negative charge connection
loom into the large hole at the rear of the
track section. Feed this wire through to the
end of the rail section. (Figure 18).
eFeed the power supply cable through the
same hole to the end of the rail section
(Figure 19).
fPlace a cable tie around the power supply
cable (Figure 20).
gPull the power supply cable tight at the
rear of the rail section. Using a cable tie,
attached the power supply cable to the
stanchion lug (Figure 21).
hUsing two cable ties, securely fasten the
power supply cable to the back of the
stanchion as shown in (Figure 22)
iConnect the power supply cable and
negative charge connection loom to the
two-connector block (Figure 23).
jWrap the two red charge contact wires
together and feed this into the two-way
connector block (Figure 24).
kFeed all of the wires into the end of the rail
section (Figure 25).
lReplace the stanchion bolt (Figure 26).
mReplace the end cap at the BOTTOM
OF THE STAIRS ONLY (Figure 26).
6Fit the remaining bolts in to the top and
bottom track sections for the first and last
stanchion.
7Fit the power supply to the wall using the
supplied bracket.
8Terminate the power supply to the available
AC supply.
Note: All mains wiring must comply with the
local standards in force at the time of installation.
Do not fix the power supply to the stringer.
