Introduction
ThisUser Guide tellsyouhowtooperate your intruder alarmsystem.To simplifythisUserGuidewe have
assumedthat thealarmsystemhas beeninstalledbya professional intruderalarmsysteminstaller (thein-
staller),andthat the system is operated in a “typical”way.Aspects of your system that are not “typical” willbe
describedby yourinstaller.
NOTE: Ifyou have anyquestionsaboutyour intruder alarmsystem,thenconsultyour installer,seecontact
detailsat the front of this User Guide.
Codes
Tooperatethe alarm system you willneed to usea code.Acode is 4 digits long,and can be anynumber from
0000to 9999. By defaultuser code1 is[0][1][2][3]but youshould changethis assoon aspossible.
Alarm System Operation
Thisbookletdescribes three versions of the alarm system. The Optimaversion hasthekeypadandindicators
onthemaincontrolpanel.TheAccentaversionhasthekeypadandindicators on a small remote LCD or
LEDkeypad.Youoperatethealarmsystembypressingkeysonthekeypadandviewingtheindicators.Both
alarmsystemsworkthe same way.BothAccenta and Optimasystems can be fitted with an optional remote
keypad.
PersonalAttack
Iftheinstallerhasprogrammed personal attack on the keypads and ifyou are under threat, or arebeing
attacked,you can activate the alarmby pressing the4and 9keys at the sametime on anyLED keypad.You
can also pressthe two keys marked PA onthe remote LCD keypad. Thealarm system willproduce a loud
alarmsound, and the externalsirenwillbeturned on.
Fire Zones
Zones7 and 8 onyour alarmsystem may havea Fireor Smokedetector connected toit. Inthe eventof a fire
thealarm system will produceadistinctivetwo-tonefirealarm sound, and the outsidesirenwillpulse2sec-
ondson,2secondsoff.You should leave the premises immediately,andonlyre-enterwhenit is safe to do so.
Thealarmcanbe silenced by entering your code.
Power Indicator
The indicatoron the control panel orkeypadwilllightwheneverthemains power supply is present. If
mainspower fails thenthe indicatorwillgoout, but the systemwillrunfromits backup batteryforseveral
hours.Ifthe indicatorgoesoutwhenmainspowerispresentthenafaultmayhavedevelopedonyour
systemand youshouldcontact yourinstaller.
Signalling Device
Youralarmsystemmayhave been fittedwithasignalling device.Thisdeviceusesthe telephone linetosendan
alarmmessagetoanAlarmReceivingCentreintheeventofanalarm.The operator at theARC may request
thepolicetoattendyourpremises.

Whenyou leave your premises you will needtoset(orturnon)theintruder alarm system.
Beforesetting the system you shouldensurethatthepremiseshave been completely vacatedandthatall
doorsand windows areclosed. Ensure that petsdo not have accessto the protected areasas they can
causea false alarm.
NOTE: TheAccentaRemote LED keypad is not shown. ItwillhavethesameindicationsastheOptima
compactpanel withbuilt-inkeypad.
NOTE: Therewillbenoexitbeepsif SilentTimedexitmodewasprogrammed.

How to Unset the System
Whenyouenter your premises you need to unset (turn off) the system.

• Enter the premises by theagreed entry route. Thesystem
producesan entry tone. The LEDis onand the LEDis
off,indicatingthatthesystemisset.

• The system unsets witha double beep. The LEDcomes on,
indicatingthatthesystemisunset.
• After30secondsthesystemdisplays the date and time.

How to Part Set the System
Ifyourinstallerhas programmed your system for partsetoperationyoucansetcertainzonesofthesystem
whileothers remain unset. Part setoperationisoftenusedatnight time, and it permitsyoutofreelywalk
aroundthebedroomswhilethe living area and outside doors areprotected.Yoursystem may have 2 part-set
programscalledProgram2 and Program 3.
Beforepart-settingthesystemyoushould ensure that all doors and windows areclosed. Ensure that pets do
nothaveaccessto the protected areas.Yourinstaller mayhave instructed you to usea differentkeypadtothe
onenormally used to set the system.
LCDKeypad:
• The LEDshouldbe on. The screen shows thedate and time:
• Enteryour code [0][1][2][3].Theexit beep starts.
• Press . The exit tone stops.
• Selectpart-set program [2] or [3].The system setaftera
shorttime.The LEDgoesout.
NOTE: Thereareno exit beeps if SilentTimed exit mode

Whentwoormorealarmshaveoccured,thefirstalarm
hasan F below thezone number, TamperorPA.
Subsequentalarms willhavea 1indicatingwherethealarm has
takenplace.
• Press .Thesystem resets and displays thedate and time if
thereare no openTampers, PAorFire zones tocause afault
lockout.
Thesystemcan be reset by the user only if the installer has
programmedit to doso.If the messageEngineer Restore
Requiredappears on screenthen the usermust contact
theinstaller.
• After30secondsthesystemdisplays the date and time.

Ifany of the LED’scontinue to flash then the systemhasbeen

Ifall LED’slight steady (notflashing),andthekeypad stopsworking,then
thesystem hasenteredafault-lockout.Youmustcallthe installertorectify
thisfault.
How to Omit Zones
Ifyoucannotsetthealarmsystembecauseadetectorisfaultyandinconstantalarmyoumayneedtoomitits
zonefrom the alarm system.Azonewhichhasbeenomittedcannotcause an alarm. Omitted zoneswillbe
restoredafterthesystemisunset.
Beforea zone can beomitted ithas tobe enabledby theinstaller asa Used Zoneand asan OmitAllow
zone.
LCDKeypad:
• Enteryour[4-digitcode] to startthe exit procedure(for
more informationsee Howto Setthe System).
• Press andthe exit beeptone stops,andthe first
usedzonethat can be omitted appearson the display.
• Pressthe zone [number] or tobe omitted.

reject toneisheard,thenthezone cannot be omitted.

How to Quick Set the System
Whenyousetthesystemyouusuallyhaveabout30secondstoexit the premises. This also means that you
needtowait 30 seconds for thesystem to set.You can reduce this timeto just fiveseconds by carrying outa
QuickSet.
• Enteryour [4-digitcode] to startthe exitprocedure. Theexit beep tonestarts.
(Formore information seeHow toSet theSystem).
• Press to Quick Setthe systemand theexit beep tone changestoa more rapidtone.
Thesystemsetsinfiveseconds,and the exit tone stops.
Single Key Setting
Ifenabledby the engineer,thesettingprocess can be started bypressing Set, rather thanentering a user code.

How to Set Up Chime Mode
Chimeis a lowsecurityfacilityfor use whenthesystemisunset. It isparticularlyusefulin a shoptowarnof
customerspresence, or ina housetowarn when aback doorhas beenopened.When a Chimezone detects
movementthesystemproducesabrief two–tone sound, and the Zone LED comes on.
To set anyzone to Chime.
LCDKeypad:
• The LEDison,indicating that thesystemisunset.
• Press .The screen shows the first zonethat is
alreadyset up for Chime (possibly none).
• Pressthe zone [number]to toggle it in and outofchime.
• Whenyouhavefinishedusing the Chime mode press or
waitafew seconds for thedisplay screen to thedate and time.
LEDKeypad:
• The LEDison,indicating that thesystemisunset.
• Press .The zone LEDs comeon to show those
zonesthatarealreadysetupforChime(possiblynone).
• Pressthe zone [number]to toggle it in and outofchime.
• Whenyouhavefinishedusing the Chime mode press or
waitafewseconds. The zone LED goes off.

You can delete the second code to prevent it being used. User 1 or user 2 can delete user code 2.
To delete user code 2 using user code 1

Duress Code
Youralarm system can havea duress code.TheDuresscode is used in ahold-up situation where there is
pressuretosetorunsetthesystem.TheDuresscodeoperateslikeyour normal code but in addition it silently
sendsasignaltotheAlarm Receiving Centre.TheoperatorattheARC may request the Policeto attend your
premises.
Theduress code can onlyset up, editedand deletedby the installerwhile inEngineerprogrammode.
NOTE: TheDuresscode facility is not applicable to the Optima Compactsystem.

How to View the Event Log

How to Test Your Alarm system
Youshouldcheckthatyour alarmsystemstillworks correctlybyperiodicallycarrying out thealarmsystem
testsdescribed here.
How to Test the Bell, Strobe and Internal Sounder
Thisfunction tests the alarm functionoftheBell,StrobeorInternalSounder. Pressingtheappropriatekey.
[1-3]togglethe function ON or OFF. Using the also selects the appropriate alarm function.
Pressing[0]turns all alarm outputs to OFF.
Pressing togglesthe selected alarm output.
Pressing turnsoff alloutputsandleaves thefunction.
Theoutputs are:
1 = Bell, 2 = Strobe, 3 = Sounder
