Hewlett-Packard Power Supply
Installation Guide
Hewlett-Packard power supplies are installable and replaceable. Areplacement or add-on power supply must be the same
type as the power supplies already installed in the array.
The locations ofthe power supplies in the 30-slot disk arrays are shown in Figure 1.

Install a power supply by performing the following steps. Place a check in the appropriate oas the step is completed.
Step 1: Observe antistatic precautions
Apower supply is shipped with an ESD kit containing:
–ESDwriststrap
– ESDconductive sheet
oGround the ESDwrist strap to any unplated metal on
the disk arraychassis and fasten the strap to your wrist.
On 30-slot disk arrays, the ESD wrist strap can be
grounded to the metal edge above the rear retaining
screws.
Step 2: Prepare to install the power supply
oRemove the new power supply from its shipping carton
and place it on a suitable antistatic surface or the ESD
conductive sheet.
oPress the release button on the fan pack and carefully
swing the fan pack down.
The installation or removal and replacement MUST be com-
pleted and the fan pack closed within two minutes or the
disk array will perform a thermal shutdown.

Step 3: Install the power supply
The power supply can be installed with array power on if a
third power supply is beinginstalled to upgrade to a redun-
dant configuration.The arraywillnot operate with only one
functional power supply;two are required.
oLocate the slot where the power supply is to be
installed.
oRemove the filler panel or failed power supply.
oInstall the power supply as shown in Figure 2.
oPush the power supply into the disk array chassis until
an audible click is heard. When the power supplyis
properly installed,it cannot be removed without using
the black release latch.
oClose the fan pack by carefully swinging the fan pack
up and firmly pressing it onto the latch until there is an
audible click. When the fan pack is properly latched, it
cannot be opened without using the release button.
