1 Safety Precautions
Thank you for choosing the HUAWEI VP9660 (VP9660 for short).
For safety purposes, carefully read through and observe these warnings and precautions
Unless otherwise specified, "device", as used in this document, indicates the device and all
accessories.
Basic Precautions
Before you use the product, refer to the product vendor for version mapping information
and to confirm compatibility with other videoconferencing equipment.
Keep the device dry and prevent collision with other objects during storage,
transportation, and operation.
Do not attempt to dismantle the device. Should any fault develop requiring technical
assistance, contact an authorized maintenance center.
Without Huawei's prior written consent, no organization or individual is permitted to
make any changes to the structure or design of the device.
While using the device, observe all applicable laws, directives and regulations, and
ensure such usage does not infringe on the legal rights of any other party.
Environmental Precautions
Keep the device away from heat sources and open flames, such as an electric heater or
candle.
Keep the device away from any household appliances with strong magnetic or electric
fields, such as a microwave oven, refrigerator, or mobile phone.
Place the device on a stable surface.
Place the device in a well-ventilated area, out of direct sunlight. The operating
temperature for the device is 0°C to 45°C (32°F to 113°F).
Do not block the openings on the device with any objects. Reserve 10 cm (0.40 in.) or
more around the device for cooling.
Do not place any objects, such as a candle or a water container, on the top of the device.
If a foreign object or liquid gets into the device, disconnect the power supply
immediately and unplug all the cables connected to the device.After ensuring power is
completely cut off from the device, contact an authorized maintenance center.
Do not place the device near a water source or in a damp area.
Keep the device clean, free of dust and stains.

Do not place the device on or near flammable materials such as foam.
Operating Precautions
Do not allow children to play with the device or its accessories. Swallowing the
accessories may be fatal.
Use only the provided accessories, such as the power adapter, or those recommended by
the manufacturer.
Make sure that the device does not get wet. If liquid gets into the device, disconnect the
power supply immediately and unplug all the cables connected to the device, such as the
power cable.After ensuring power is completely cut off from the device, contact an
authorized maintenance center.
The power supply of the device must meet the input voltage specifications of the device.
Use the surge protector provided with the device.
Before plugging or unplugging any cables, shut down the device and disconnect the
power supply.
While plugging or unplugging any cables, make sure that your hands are dry.
Do not step on, pull, or stretch any cables as doing so may damage the cables or cause
the device to malfunction
Do not use old or damaged cables.
Keep the power plug clean and dry to prevent electric shocks or other dangers.
During a thunderstorm, disconnect the device from the power supply and unplug all the
cables connected to the device.
If the device will not be used for long periods of time, power off the device, disconnect
the power supply, and unplug all the cables connected to the device.
Do not look into the infrared transmitting interface on the remote control without eye
protection.
If smoke, noise, or odor is emitted from the device, stop using and power off the device
immediately, disconnect the power supply, and unplug all the cables. Contact the
authorized maintenance center for repair.
Make sure that no object (such as metal shavings) enters the device through the heat
dissipation vent.
Before connecting any other cables to the device, connect the ground cable of the device.
Before disconnecting the ground cable from the device, disconnect all other cables.
Make sure that the three-phase power socket is grounded properly. The neutral line and
the live line cannot be connected inversely.
Do not scratch or otherwise damage the device shell. Flaking or peeling of the paint may
lead to skin allergy or malfunction of the device. If paint flakes and peels drops into the
host, a short circuit may occur.
If the device's fuse burns out, replace it with a fuse of the same model and specifications.
Cleaning Precautions
Before cleaning the device, power it off, disconnect the power supply, and unplug all the
cables connected to the device.
Do not clean the device shell with any cleaning solution or cleanser spray. Use a piece of
soft cloth to gently wipe down the device shell if dusty or smudged.

Environmental Protection
Do not dispose the abandoned device in a garbage can. The device, packing materials,
batteries, and any discarded components or units must be disposed of in accordance with local
regulations in order to support recycling activities.
If the device has been operating for long periods of time, the shell may get heated, which is normal.
Class A Product Warning
This is a classA product. In a household or other environment, this product may cause radio
interference. If such interference is detected, the user may be required to take adequate
corrective measures. and may cause radio interference in a living environment.

2 Installing the VP9660
2.1 Installation Process
Follow the steps in Table 2-1 to install the VP9660.

2.3 Unpacking
To ensure that you have received all the components of the VP9660 in good condition,
perform the following steps for acceptance:

Step 1 Check the wooden crate and cartons for damage before unpacking them.
Step 2 Unpack the wooden crate and cartons.
Step 3 Check the items inside against the packing list to ensure all items are included and in good
condition.

Pre-unpacking Check
Be aware of doors, walls, and shelves when transporting and moving the device, parts, and
components.
When transporting, moving, and installing the device, parts, or components, never touch
uncoated surfaces with sweat-soaked or dirty gloves.
Table 2-3 lists the items to be checked before unpacking.

If all the items meet the criteria in Table 2-3, unpack the wooden crate and cartons for
acceptance. Otherwise, stop unpacking, find the cause if possible, and report the issue to the
Huawei supply chain.
Unpacking a Wooden Crate
Wooden crates are usually used to package heavy components such as chassis and bases.A
wooden crate consists of wooden boards, steel sheets, tongues, and foam wrap angles.

A wooden crate must not be placed upside down; otherwise, the products inside may get
damaged.
If possible, move the wooden crate to or near the installation site before unpacking. In
doing so, you may avoid damage to the device during transportation.
When moving the device, grip the firm parts such as the support or backbone frames. Too
much force on weaker parts of the structure, such as support beams, may cause damage or
lead to accidents.
To unpack a wooden crate, perform the following steps:
Step 1 Insert one end of the provided wrench into the hole with the tongue on the cover of the
wooden crate. Lift the wrench to pull the tongue straight, as shown in Figure 2-1.

Step 2 Pull straight all the tongues on the cover and remove the cover, as shown in Figure 2-2.

Step 3 Remove the carton packed with cables from the wooden crate.
Step 4 Pull straight all the tongues on the side boards and remove these boards, as shown in Figure
2-3.

Step 5 Remove foam boards.
Step 6 Carry the device to the installation site.

Unpacking a Carton
Cartons are used to pack cables, boards, and terminal devices. It is recommended that one
person be in charge of each individual carton. Check the cartons one by one. Confirm that
cartons are empty before throwing them away. The following procedure uses a carton for
packing boards as an example.

To unpack a carton, perform the following steps:
Step 1 Check the carton details on its label.
Step 2 Cut the packaging strap with diagonal pliers.
Step 3 Use a utility knife to cut the pressure-sensitive tape along the sealing joint on the carton cover.
Do not insert the utility knife too deeply as doing so may scratch the components inside.
Step 4 Open the carton and remove the foam boards.
Step 5 Check whether the items inside the carton are consistent with those on the packing list.
If yes, take out the board bags.
If no, contact the device supplier.
Boards are transported with ESD bags. Pay attention to the following items when unpacking
boards:
Electric circuits are easily damaged by ESD. Wear a properly grounded ESD wrist strap
when handling components such as boards and touch only the edges of the components.
An ESD bag usually has a desiccant inside, which absorbs moisture to keep the bag dry
inside. If you move a board from an environment with a low temperature and dry air to
one with high temperature and humid air, wait for at least 30 minutes before unpacking the
board. Otherwise, moisture will condense on the board surface and damage it.
Step 6 Unpack the board bags.
1. Check the bags for damage. If any bag is damaged, contact the device provider.
2. Wear an ESD wrist strap.
3. Open the bag and check whether the boards inside are damaged. If any board is damaged,
contact the device provider.
Perform either of the following on unpacked boards:
To install the boards immediately, place the boards on the ESD surface to discharge any
buildup of static electricity. Then install the boards.
To install the boards later, repack the boards in their original packaging materials. Then
store them in a cool and dry environment without sunlight or strong electromagnetic
interference.
Step 7 Check the type and quantity of items inside the carton against the packing list.
If the items are consistent with the packing list, accept the items.
If the items are not consistent with the packing list, contact the device supplier.

Checking the Device
Before installation, check the device and components to ensure that they meet the
requirements described in Table 2-4.
If items included differ from those listed in the table, contact the device supplier.
If you find any damaged or loose connectors or scratched cables, contact the device
supplier to replace them.

The VP9660 supports AC and DC power supplies. The cables delivered vary according to the power
modules specified in the purchase contract.
Hardware Structure
The VP9660 is 20 U (890 mm or 35.04 in.) high. The VP9660 integrates the chassis, power
modules, fan assemblies, boards, and dust filter, as shown in Figure 2-4.

The VP9660 supports AC and DC power supplies. Figure 2-4 shows the AC power supply mode.
The power modules, fan assemblies, and dust filter are preinstalled on the chassis before the delivery of
the VP9660. You only need to install boards and connect the ground, power, and network cables to the
VP9660.
Do not install both AC and DC power modules in the VP9660.
Boards
The VP9660 are configured with three types of boards. Install boards based on the site
requirements.
ECCB board: main control board of the VP9660. This board is mandatory and must be
inserted into slot 0 or 1. If there is only one ECCB board, insert it into slot 0.
Media board: encodes, decodes, and transcodes audio and video streams. This type of
board is mandatory and can be inserted into any slots from slots 2 to 8. At least one
media board is required by the VP9660.
ISDN board: service board of the VP9660 to enable integrated services digital network
(ISDN) and Primary Rate Interface (PRI) access. You can insert this board into slot 9
only. This board is optional.
Figure 2-5 shows the ECCB board front panel.

Each GWBB subboard supports 16-port PRI access, and the ISDN board supports a maximum of
64-port PRI access.
2.4 Plugging In the Ground Cable

Correct grounding protects the VP9660 against lightning and interference. Ground the
VP9660 securely and ensure that the resistance between the VP9660 chassis and earth is
less than 5 ohms.
Before plugging in the power cable, ensure that the ground cable is properly connected to
the VP9660.
At the lower right corner of the VP9660 chassis' rear panel, you will find two M6 ground
screws. Choose either of the screws to connect the ground cable.
Procedure
Step 1 Use a Phillips screwdriver to turn the selected ground screw anticlockwise to remove it, as
shown in Figure 2-7.

Step 2 Align the wiring terminal of the provided green and yellow ground cable with the ground
screw hole, as shown in Figure 2-8.

Step 3 Tighten the ground screw in the screw hole clockwise.
Step 4 Connect the other end of the ground cable to the ground bar.

The VP9660 supports AC and DC power supplies. It comes with fourAC or DC power
