2INSTALLATION AND CONNECTIONS
■Unpacking
Afterunpacking,immediatelyreportanydamage
to the delivering carrier or dealer. Keep the
shippingcartons.
For a description and a diagram of accessory
equipmentincludedwiththeX-BAND50series,
see‘Suppliedaccessories’ofthismanual.
■Selecting a location
Select a location for the repeater that allows
adequate air circulation, free from extreme
heat, cold, or vibrations, and away from TV
sets, TV antenna elements, radios and other
electromagneticsources.
■Antenna connections
For radio communications, the antenna is of
criticalimportance,alongwithoutputpowerand
sensitivity. Select antenna(s), such as a well-
matched 50 Ω antenna, and feedline. 1.5:1 or
betterofVoltageStandingWaveRatio(VSWR)
isrecommendedfordesiredband.Ofcourse,the
transmissionlineshouldbeacoaxialcable.
CAUTION:Protectrepeaterfromlightning
byusingalightningarrestor.
NOTE:Therearemanypublications
coveringproperantennasandtheir
installation.Checkwithyourlocaldealerfor
moreinformationandrecommendations.
■Grounding
Topreventelectricalshock,televisioninterference
(TVI), broadcast interference (BCI) and other
problems, ground the transceiver through the
[GND]terminalontherearpanel.
Forbestresults,connectaheavygaugewireor
straptoalongearth-sunkcopperrod.Makethe
distancebetweenthe[GND]terminalandground
asshortaspossible.
WARNING: NEVERconnectthe
[GND]terminaltoagasorelectricpipe,
sincetheconnectioncouldcausean
explosionorelectricshock.
TYPE-N CONNECTOR INSTALLATION EXAMPLE
Slidethenut,atwasher,rubbergasketandclampoverthecoaxial
cable,thencuttheendofthecableevenly.
Stripthecableandfoldthebraidbackovertheclamp.
Softsolderthecenterconductor.Installthecenterconductorpinand
solderit.
Carefullyslidetheplugbodyintoplacealigningthecenterconductor
pinonthecable.Tightenthenutontotheplugbody.

Make sure the [POWER] switch is turned OFF
when connecting an AC power cable and a
backupbattery(emergencypowersupply).
TheX-Band50seriescanoperatewithanACor
DCpowersupply.IfACpowerisinterruptedwhen
operatingtherepeaterwithanACpowersupply,
powerisautomaticallyprovidedtothe[BATTERY]
terminals.Batterywillbeautomaticallyrecharged
whenACpowerisrestored.
In AC operation
CAUTION:
•UsethesuppliedACpowercablefor
connectiontoadomesticACoutlet.
•Extensioncordsshouldnotbeusedunless
absolutelynecessary.Usingimproper
extensioncordscouldresultinrerisk.
In DC operation
CAUTION: Voltagesgreaterthan16VDC
willdamagetherepeater.Checkthesource
voltagebeforeconnectingthepowercable.
•DONOTplacethebackupbatteryonornear
therepeater.Lead-acidbatteriesshouldbe
placedatleast5m(16.4ft.)awayfromthe
repeater.Useaheavydutycabletomake
theconnectionandbesureboththepositive
(red)andnegative(black)terminalsare
correctlyconnected.
•Whenconnectingtothebattery,keepin
ordertoconnecttheDCpowercableto
therepeaterrst,thenthepositive(red)
terminalandnegative(black)terminal
tothebatterytopreventanelectricshock.

Follow the case and cover opening procedures
shownherewhenanoptionalunitisinstalledor
adjusttheinternalunits,etc.
CAUTION: Disconnect theAC power cable
and/or DC power cable from the repeater.
Otherwise, there is danger of electric shock
and/orequipmentdamage.

and1screwfromthetopfront,thenliftupthe
topcover.
