CONNECTING TO POWERSUPPLY
Certain electricalguidelinesmustbefollowed:
1. Usea separate electrical circuit with No.12
wire or greater protected with a 20amp
breaker.
2. UseNo.12 wire forextensioncordrunsup
to50feet.
3. UseNo.10 wire forextensioncordrunsup
to150feet.
Before connectingtopowersupply:
* Set switch to stop position.
* Placemachineona dry,non-conductive
surface.
* Makesure that powersupplyisthesameas
information stampedonthemotor
nameplale.

manual. The115Vplug that comes with the

ARBOR INSTALLATION
WARNING:
All adjustmentstomachinemustbemadewith
thepoweroffandunpluggedfromthepower

WARNING:

purposesonly.Neveroperateshaperwithout
safetyshield. Failure tocomplymayresultin

1. Disconnectmachinefromthepowersource.
2. Raise spindle fully.
3. Selectthedesiredarborandhandtighten
arbornut onto arbor.
4. C!lean thearborshankandthe bore ofthe
spindle. Seefigure14.
5. Putthearborshankintothespindleand
tightenarbornut.
(>. Putthedrawbarintothebottomofthe
spindle andhandlighten.
7. Tightenthearbornut with anopenend
wrench while holdingthe flat onarbor
bottom with an17mmopenendwrench.

SHAPERCUTTERINSTALLATION
1. Disconnectmachinefromthepowersource.
2. Raise thespindle fully.
3. Settheshapercutteronthearbor with the
cutterrotatinginthe proper direction.
4. Puta spacewasher onto thearbortoreach
the proper height.Next,placethekeyed
collar onto thearbor.
5. Placethewasherontopandthentighten
thearborscrew.
SPINDLECONTROL
To raiseorlowerspindle:
1. Loosenspindle lock knob(A).Seefigure
16.
2. Raise orlowerspindletodesiredheightby
turning handwheei(B).
3. Tightenspindle lock knob.
FENCE ADJUSTMENTS
1. Adjust fencehalvesbyloosening lock knob
(A), turnknurledknob(B)toadjustfence
in orout,andtighten lock knob.
See Figure17.
2. Adjust spindleguardheightbyloosening
wing nut(C), sliding guardupordownto
desired height,andthentightening wing
nut.
3. Adjust spindleguard depth byloosening
two lock knobs(D),movingspindleguard
todesiredposition,andthentightening
two lock knobs.
4. Hold downclampscanbeadjustedfor
heightbyturningscrewhandle (E), to
loosen, adjusttodesiredheight,and
tightenscrewhandle.

OPERATION
USING THE FENCE ASA GUIDE
Shaping with thefenceisthesafestandmost
satisfactory methodofworking. This method
should alwaysbeusedwhenworkpermits.
Almost allstraightworkcanbeused with the
fence.

SHAPING WITH COLLARS AND STARTING
PIN
Follow these ruleswhenshaping with collars
andstarlingpinforsafestoperationand best
results:
1. Collars mustbesmoothandfreefromall
gumor other substances.
2. The edge oftheworkmustbesmooth.
Any irregularityinthesurface which rides
againstthecollar will beduplicatedonthe
shapedsurface.

4. Theworkmustbe fairly heavyin
proportiontothecutbeingmade.See

a smallworkpiecebeshapedagainstthe
collars asshowninfigure24.
COLLAR POSITIONING
Collars maybepositionedabove,below,or
betweentwocutters:
1. Whenusingthecollarbelowthecutter,
figure25,theprogressofthecutcanbe
observedatalltimes.A disadvantageof
thismethodisanyaccidental lifting ofthe
work will gouge thewoodandruinthe
workpiece.
2. Usingthecollarabovetheworkpiece,
figure26,offersthe advantage ofthecut
notbeingaffectedbyslightvariationsin
thestock'sthickness.However,thecutis
notvisibleduringtheoperation.Another
advantage isaccidental lifting ofthework
piece will not gouge theworkpiece.
Simply correctthemistakebyrepeating
theoperation.
3. Thecollarbetweencullersmethod,shown
in figure27,has both the advantages and
disadvantagesofthe first two methods.
This methodisusedprimarilywhere both
edges oftheworkaretobeshaped.

LUBRICATION
To insureeasymovementwhenraisingand

light oilonoutsideofspindlecartridge.

sealed. They neednofurthercare.
