PARTS LIST
Tulip Poplar is a beautiful hardwood species that can have some
slight coloration in parts of the tree. We make every attempt to
preserve the prettiest wood for the parts of our frames that show.
However, in an attempt not to waste perfectly good and sound
poplar, some pieces of the frame will reflect this coloration. We
use these pieces in parts of the frame that ultimately will be
hidden, such as bed slats. Any green tint in the wood will change
brown after several weeks or after exposure to direct sunlight for
about 30 minutes. For more information on our products

STEP 1: Assemble the headboard

Insert dowels on ends of the (6) A-22 and (3) A-22-P into corresponding holes
in A-54-HT and A-54-HB as pictured. The (3) A-22-P pickets should be in the
middle with pocket holes facing you. Be sure the pocket holes of the A-54-HT
headboard top are facing you. Be sure the rail pockets of A-54-HB headboard
bottom are NOT facing you. You are looking at the back of the headboard.

Push the 6 Headboard Pickets (A-22) and the 3
Headboard Pickets (A-22-P) into holes on the
Headboard Bottom (A-54-HB) . The 3 pickets in
the middle (A-22-P) should be the ones with
pocket holes (see back view picture).
Then push the Headboard Top (A-54-HT)
down onto the pickets.
Use a Phillips screwdriver to attach the 3 middle
pickets with 1-1/2” Wood Screws (Black) (H-20).

Use phillips head screw driver to attach the (3) A-22-P middle pickets to the
A-54-HT headboard top and the A-54-HB headboard bottom using (6) of the
H-20 1-1/2” screws. Be sure the heads of the screws are snug in the pockets.

Flip headboard over, you are now looking at the front of the headboard. Insert
dowels of A-54-HT headboard top and A-54-HB headboard bottom into the
corresponding holes in the A-40-HL left headboard leg and the A-40-HR right
headboard leg - Be sure that the rail pockets in the legs are facing you.
Attach A-54-HB headboard bottom to legs using H-20 screws as pictured.

Flip the headboard over one last time and attach A-54-HT headboard
top to the legs using the H-20 screws as pictured.

STEP 3: Insert and attach outside rails
Attach the (2) A-80-P outside rails
using the H-21 bolts and H-3 cross
dowels as pictured. Be sure the
pockets on the rails face toward the
inside of the bed. Tighten with H-10
hex wrench provided. H-21

STEP 4: Insert and attach center rails
Install the remaining (2) A-80-P rails using
the H-21 bolts and H-3 cross dowels as
pictured. Be sure the pockets on the
rails face toward the pockets of the
outside rails. Tighten with H-10
hex wrench provided.

looking rails for the outside
STEP 5: Install connector slats
Install the (4) A-27-C connector slats in
the pockets with holes in them. Attach
using the H-21 bolts and H-3 cross
dowels as pictured. Hand tighten,
do not use H-10 hex wrench
at this time. H-21

STEP 6: Install regular slats and tighten bolts
Install all of the A-27 regular slats and
tighten the (8) H-21 connector slat bolts
with H-10 hex wrench provided.
IMPORTANT: Please retighten
all H-21 bolts after 30 days!
Tulip Poplar can be left unfinished, clear finished, stained, or painted. I prefer the lighter stains over the darker ones because the wood is fairly porous. My favorite is a clear finish with no stain. Satin polyurethane (oil or water based) works well. Painting: It is best to start with an interior primer and lightly sand before painting. Staining: Lightly sand before staining. Wipe stain on with a rag until you get the desired color. If you are going to use a top coat (such as polyurethane), do not sand again until after the first coat, and then be careful not to sand away the stain. Finishing: All finishes work well with Tulip Poplar. A simple wax finish over stain (Minwax for example) is easy. An oil finish such as Danish oil can be used. Or a clear top coat such as polyurethane works well to seal the wood. With polyurethanes, the first coat acts as a sanding sealer. So you should lighty sand (180 - 220 grit sandpaper) after the first coat, wipe the wood clean, and then build up coats for the desired effect.
STEP 2: Assemble the footboard pocket pocket

Insert dowels on ends of A-54-F bed end into corresponding holes
in legs A-15-L and A-15-R as pictured. Be sure pockets on legs
and A-54-F are on the same side. Use screwdriver to secure
with H-20 wood screws.
