2. General
2.1 Application
The KESSE -Ecolift®
, designated as a
DIN EN 13564 Type 3 backwater valve, is
designed to be installed in wastewater
drainage pipes with or without raw sewa-
ge (WC connection). The installed sy-
stem offers reliable wastewater drainage
even during times of backwater. The
pump operates only during backwater
and pumps the building’s wastewater
through a pressure pipe and into the pu-
blic sewer (pressure pipe should be run
above the backwater level (ground level)
and then into the public sewer)). During
normal non-backwater conditions, the
wastewater simply flows through the Eco-
lift and drains into the public sewer with
the force of gravity. The Ecolift ist no a rat
or rodent protection device! In the case of
rat or rodent danger in the drainage piping
system, the Ecolift should be properly
protected against rat or rodent damage.
Important:
Requirements for proper operations are:
➡
Drainage pipe must be properly slo-
ped (note- the Ecolift itself has an ele-
vation drop between its inlet and out-
let of 9mm)
➡
A higher proportion of waste in the
wastewater which will allow self clea-
ning and proper operation.
➡
Proper installation, especially proper
ventilation of the inlet drainage pipe
according to DIN EN 12056 / DIN
1986-100
➡
Wastewater flowing through the Eco-
lift which contains elevated level or
oils or grease will require that mainte-
nance and cleaning increments of the
Ecolift are increase.
➡
Rainwater surface area which is
connected to the Ecolift must not ex-
ceed 20 square meters.
2.2 Contents of delivery
The KESSE Ecolift consists of a base
housing with pump and backwater valve
and an electrical package. The electrical
package consist of:
1. Two optical probes and the backwater
flap motor
2. A control unit with digital display (230 V,
50 Hz, Protection Class IP 54) with
back up battery feature (twin 9-volt bat-
teries) for alarm warnings during power
outages
3. Installation an Operation Manual
2.3 Pre-installation tips
During the building’s construction phase,
only the Ecolift housing is installed and
connected. Also during this time the out-
let pressure pipe is to be connected. Nor-
mally during this time the building is not
equipped with electrical power meaning
that electrical connections (Section 4)
and commission (Section 5) will occur at
a later time. The electrical package and
the control unit should be properly stored
in a clean and dry location. The protective
caps should only be removed immediate-
ly prior to use.
Attention:
The pump is shipped with a transportati-
on safety band which needs to be remo-
ved before being placed into operation.
2.4 General information for the installa-
tion of backwater valves
According to DIN EN 12056 it is not allowed
to connect all drainage fixtures from a buil-
ding (including those located above the
backwater level – ground level) through a
backwater valve. The reason being that
when the backwater flap is in the closed po-
sition due to backwater / flooding no waste-
water will be able to flow through the back-
water valve meaning that the building’s own
wastewater will flood out of the lowest drai-
nage fixture connected (normally in the ba-
sement) to the backwater valve.
Only drainage fixtures located below the
backwater level (ground level) should be
protected from backwater via connection to
the Ecolift® . All drainage fixtures located
above the backwater level should not be
connected to the Ecolift and should be drai-
ned via a separate drainage pipe directly
into the public sewer.
If installed properly as discussed above, du-
ring backwater the backwater level will only
reach ground level height meaning they are
not a danger of flooding drainage fixtures lo-
cated above the backwater level. Drainage
fixtures below ground which are drained
through a separate pipe through the Ecolift
will be protected from backwater damage.
Rainwater drainage pipes should never be
connected to a backwater valve.
2.5 Pressure connection
The outlet pressure pipe should be in-
stalled according to DIN EN 12056. Pres-
sure connection: 1 ½ inch outer thread
(Article Number 28040) contains 5 meters
of pressure pipe with outer diameter
50mm and an adaptor with fastening
clamp. As an alternative, a D=40mm
pressure pipe min. 38mm can be used
with a PVC connection. The pressure
pipe should be laid above the locally de-
fined backwater level and then immedia-
tely connected to a ventilation drainage
pipe with a minimum size of DN 70. Non-
pressure pipes (such at HT drainage pi-
ping) are not allowed for use as the pres-
sure pipe outlet.
This pressure pipe will be firmly connec-
ted to the Ecolift by the installer but will
also allow this pipe to be removed later for
servicing if required.
