SD-511 Saddle Stitcher
Caution:
Lifting the machine in an awkward position or
transporting it in a poorly balanced position could
result in personal injury. When transporting the
machine, assign an adequate number of persons
to the job and ensure that each person can take a
good position of not being excessively loaded.

I. Accessory parts
Note:
This manual provides the illustrations of the acces-
sory parts and machine that may be slightly different
in shape from yours. In that case, instead of the
illustrations, use the appearance of your machine to
follow the installation procedure. This does not
cause any significant change or problem with the
procedure.

II. Installation procedures
Note:
When mounting the saddle stitcher, mount it
before mounting the finisher to the machine.
1. Turn off the machine and unplug the power cord
from the power outlet.
2. Remove the saddle unit and all other accessories
from the shipping carton and remove the protec-
tive tape and protective materials.
3. Remove the pin from the supplied exit lever.
4. Using the pin removed in step 3, attach the exit
lever to the supplied exit tray cover.
Note:
Make sure that the pin is fully inserted into the
holder.
5. If the finisher is mounted on the machine, remove
the finisher.
Note:
For the finisher removal procedure, see installa-
tion manual for finisher (FS-534).
6. Open the front door of the finisher.
7. Remove the front cover of the finisher (six
screws).

8. If the stapler unit is positioned toward the front of
the finisher, move it to the rear turning the dial
shown in the illustration.
9. Remove the C-clip from the supplied guide plate.
10. Attach the guide plate to the finisher.
Note:
Insert the two projections located at the end of the
guide plate into the holes on the plate inside the
finisher.
11. Open the guide plate and attach the C-clip
removed in step 9.
12. Remove seven screws that hold the cover
shown in the illustration on the left side of the fin-
isher.
Note:
A connector is connected to the cover.
13. Tilt the cover and remove the connector.

14. Attach the supplied left and right rails. (two supplied screws each)
Note:
• Align the end of the rail with the front end of the plate of the finisher.
• Put the rail along downward to screw.
15. Plug in the two connectors and attach the exit tray cover to the finisher.
(Seven screws removed in step 12)

16. Pull the left rail out completely from the finisher.
17. Hold the area of the saddle unit shown in the illustration with one of your hands and lift it. Hold the left rail
with your other hand. Fasten the saddle unit to the left rail by fitting the tab on the rail into the slot located
on the rear side of the saddle unit and then the other tab into the slot on the front side by slightly bending
the front side of the rail.
Note:
• Make sure that the guide plate described in step 11 is opened.
• Put the saddle unit close to the rail and move the saddle unit parallel to the rail. Be careful so that the
saddle unit does not come into contact with the finisher in the area A.
• When fitting the tabs on the rail into the slots, be careful not to slide the rail back into the finisher.
Caution:
• Be careful not to drop the saddle unit or hurt your fingers by the rails.
• When fastening the saddle unit to the rail, be careful not to topple the finisher.

18. Pull the right rail out completely and fit the boss
of the saddle unit into the positioning hole on the
rail.
Caution:
Be careful not to hurt yourself while pulling the rail
out.
19. Attach the saddle unit to the rails. (one supplied
screw each for left and right)
20. Remove the screw shown in the illustration from
the front of the saddle unit.
21. Remove the screw shown in the illustration from
the back of the saddle unit.
22. Insert the three pantograph hooks of the saddle
unit into the holes on the rear inside the finisher.

23. Secure the pantograph. (one screw removed in
step 21)
24. Connect the three pantograph connectors to the
finisher.
25. Close the guide plate opened in step 11.
26. Close the front door of the finisher opened in
step 6.
27. Place the supplied exit tray on the finisher.
28. Mount the finisher to the machine.
Note:
For the finisher mounting procedures, see installa-
tion manual for finisher (FS-534).
29. Plug the power cord into the power outlet and
turn on the machine.
III. Adjustments
1. Select Finishing →Fold/Bind.
2. Make copies in finisher mode and check the sta-
tus of the Half-Fold, Center Staple & Fold and Tri-
fold.
Note:
When copying in the Center Staple & Fold mode, 5
originals need to be set on the document feeding
tray.
<Half-fold skew adjustment>
1. Unfold the paper that exits the machine and lay
the paper with the ridge facing up.

2. Check the crease for deviation
(Measure width A1 and A2).
Reference: A1 - A2 = 0 ± 1.0 mm
3. Loose the two screws at the right side of the sad-
dle unit as shown in the illustration below.
4. Loose the two screws at the left side of the saddle
unit as shown in the illustration below.
5. Incline the guide plate assy shown in the illustra-
tion and adjust the skew.
Note:
Incline the guide plate assy forward or backward
according to the deviation of the crease.

6. Tighten the four screws loosen in step 3 and 4.

<Half-fold position adjustment>
1. Unfold the paper that exits the machine and lay
the paper with the ridge facing up.
2. Fold the paper shown in step 1 in half and unfold
it again.
3. Check the crease for deviation
(Measure width A).
Reference: 0 ± 1.0 mm
4. Display the Service Mode screen.
(For details of how to display the Service Mode
screen, see the Service Manual.)
5. Touch “Finisher.”
6. Touch “FS-FN adjustment.”
7. Touch “Half-Fold Position.”
8. Check that “ALL” is displayed in reversed.

touch “OK.”

<Center staple position adjustment>
1. Unfold the paper that exits the machine and lay
the paper with the ridge facing up.
2. Check the staple position for deviation from the
crease (Measure width A).
Reference: 0 ± 1.0 mm
3. Display the Service Mode screen.
(For details of how to display the Service Mode
screen, see the Service Manual.)
4. Touch “Finisher.”
5. Touch “FS-FN adjustment.”
6. Touch “Center Staple Position.”
7. Check that “ALL” is displayed in reversed.

<Tri-fold position adjustment>
First fold position adjustment
1. Check the width of the first fold position “a.”
Reference: Unit: mm
2. Display the Service Mode screen.
(For details of how to display the Service Mode
screen, see the Service Manual.)
3. Touch “Finisher.”
4. Touch “FS-FN adjustment.”
5. Touch “1st Tri-Fold Adjustment.”
6. Check that “ALL” is displayed in reversed.
7. Enter a value with or key and touch
“OK.”
• To make width a greater: Enter the value of .
• To make width a smaller: Enter the value of .
8. Touch “OK.”
9. Touch “Exit” on the Service Mode screen.
10. Make copies again and check the first fold posi-
tions deviate.
Second fold position adjustment
1. Display the Service Mode screen.

2. Touch “Finisher.”
3. Touch “FS-FN adjustment.”
4. Touch “2nd Tri-Fold Adjustment.”
5. Check that “ALL” is displayed in reversed.
6. Enter a value with or key and touch
“OK.”

• To make width a smaller: Enter the value of .
7. Touch “OK.”
8. Touch “Exit” on the Service Mode screen.
9. Make copies again and check the second fold
positions deviate.
