Please observe the following for wiring according to EMC guidelines:

ƒSeparate control cables from motor cables.
ƒConnect the shields of the control or data cables as follows:
ÓAt both ends for cables with digital signals.
ƒPotential differences between thenodescanbeavoidedbyusingan
equalizing conductor with a large cross-section (reference: PE).
ƒPlease observe the further notes concerning EMC-compliant wiring given
in the Instructions of the basic devices.
General wiring information
1. Do not change the bus topology, i.e. do not use stubs.
2. Connect the bus terminating resistors of 120 Ωeach (scope of supply):
zbetween CAN-LOW and CAN-HIGH
zonly to the physical beginning and end of the cable
3. Use bus cable according to the specification on 37.
4. Do not exceed the permissible bus cable length (see 43).

ƒOnly plug on / remove if the controller is disconnected from the mains !
ƒFirst wire the plug connectors, then connect them!

Bus cable length
It is absolutely necessary to comply with the permissible cable lengths.
1. Check the compliance with the total cable length in Tab. 3.
The total cable length is defined by the baud rate.

2. Check the compliance with the segment cable length in Tab. 4.
The segment cable length is defined by the cable cross-section used and the number of
nodes. Without any repeaters, the segment cable length corresponds to the total cable
length.

3. Compare both values.
If the value given in Tab. 4 is smaller than the required total cable length given in Tab. 3,
repeaters must be used. Repeaters divide the total cable length into segments.
Note!
ƒPlease note the reduction of the total cable length due to the signal delay
of the repeater (see example 45).
ƒMixed operation
ÓWith mixed operation, different node devices are connected to the same
mains.
ÓIfthetotalcablelengthsofthenodes are different at the same baud
rate, the smaller value must be used to determine the max. cable
length.
Example: Selection help
Given:
zCable cross-section: 0.5 mm2(according to cable specification 37)
zNumber of nodes: 63
zRepeater: Lenze repeater, type 2176 (cable reduction: 30 m)
At maximum number of nodes (63) the following cable lengths/number of repeaters must
be complied with:

Check repeater application
Given:
zBaud rate: 125 kbps
zCable cross-section: 0.5 mm2
zNumber of nodes: 28
zCable length: 450 m
Procedure Cable length See
1. Total cable length at 125 kbps: 590 m Tab. 3
2. Segment cable length for 28 nodes and a cable cross-section
of 0.5 mm2:
360 m Tab. 4
3. Comparison: The value under point 2 is smaller than the required cable length of 450 m.
Conclusion
zIt is not possible to use a cable length of 450 m without using a repeater.
zAfter 360 m (point 2.), a repeater must be installed.
Result
zThe Lenze repeater type 2176 is used (cable reduction: 30 m)
zCalculation of the maximum cable length:
First segment: 360 m
Second segment: 360 m (according to Tab. 3) minus 30 m (cable reduction when a repeater is
used)
ÆMaximum possible cable length with repeater: 690 m.
ÆNow it is possible to use the required cable length.
Note!
The use of a further repeater is recommended as
ƒService interface
Advantage: Trouble-free connection during bus operation is possible.
ƒCalibration interface
Advantage: Calibration/programming unit remains electrically isolated.

Please check the following before you switch on the controller together with
the function module connected to the system bus network CAN:
ƒCompleteness of the wiring, earth fault and short circuit.
ƒWhether the bus system is terminated at the physically first and last node
through the bus terminating resistor.

Setting the node address with the switches
For addressing the controllers, an unambiguous address (between 1 and 63) must be
assigned to every node in the CAN network with the switches S1 - S6. All values of the
switches in ON position added result in the node address wanted.

Please note that for accepting the changes, the controller must be switched off

Setting the node address via the CAN master
Precondition: Switches S1 ... S6 = OFF
1. Change the node address with C0350.
2. Acceptance of changes:
