(1)Use instruction of mScara laser upgrade pack
As laser energy has higher density, make sure that corresponding protection
measure is taken during use. Don’t look at the laser light path by naked eye, don’t irradiate
others by the laser to prevent growing blind or injury to others.
The laser for this product is 405nm, 500mW blue-violet light semiconductor laser.
Operating voltage DC 12V, operating temperature 0℃-50℃, and storage and transport
temperature -40℃-85℃
Material applicable for engraving and cutting: Wood board, non-transparent
ACRYL, paper (color paper and paperboard), foam paper, dark color cloth (jean
cloth, cotton cloth and linen), leather and other materials with higher absorbancy
and low melting point.
Materials not applicable for engraving: Metal such as aluminum, stainless
steel, mirror, glass, ceramic, and other transmissivity maternal with high melting
point and high reflectivity

Warning
Wavelengthγ= 405nm blue-violet diode laser
Don’t directly irradiate eye or skin by the laser beam
Note:
When the laser is used, take eye protecting measure. When a specific material is cut
by the laser, it is possible to produce toxic smoke, so take ventilation measure. The
children or the person unfamiliar with the laser are not allowed to independently touch or
use the laser device.

VI、mDraw software
1. Description of mDraw functions
mDraw is open source cross-platform software produced by Makeblock and support
Windows system, Mac system and Linux system, and perfectly supports four types of
mDrawBot such as mSpider, mScara, mEggBot and mCar, and supports the steering
engine mode and laser mode of Makeblock XY drawing robot kit V2.0.
Support SVG format, Change BMP to SVG
2. Software installation,
Unzip the downloaded file pack, find and double click the file as show in the figure.

b). The laser parameter adjusting mode is shown in check box. After
selection, the laser becomes lit, the selection may be cancelled after setting laser intensity
and laser burning time, and the software automatically records the setting.
c). Drag led SVG format to change the size and location of SVG, or change the
drawing size by directly entering digit in the lower right of the graph.
e). While leading BMP file, the software automatically pop up SVG file change dialog
box, and according to adjustment parameter, change file to SVG format.
(5)Function description of setting area
a). Single click button to open the setting interface as shown in the following
figure.

mScara User Guide-Laser Version

b).The length of arm A is determined value, and the length of the arm B is the
installation size of mScara machine. The value is the distance between the center of laser
head and 90T synchronous pulley. Fill after accurately measuring by paper rule or steel
rule.
c). The speed may be adjusted from 0 to 100%, and 50%-80% speed range is
recommended for mScara. More than 80% is not recommended.
d). A button is arranged on the back to change the rotation direction of the stepping
motor if the rotation direction is incorrect.
4. Use of mScara laser version
(1)mScara (laser version)
a).Inspect and confirm that the wire connection is correct (Note: you may click to
inspect. ). Connect USB with the computer ( Note: if Bluetooth is used, install the
Bluetooth drive on the computer)
b).Select and connect correct COM port, click burning hardware and switch to laser
mode. (Note: While the robot is switched to other drawing type, you are required to
click Update Firmware to upgrade the firmware to ensure The robot can operate in
new drawing type.
c).Click icon to access the setting interface. Under general condition, default
setting is used. Only when you change the length of the arms A and B of mScara, the
value is changed. Before use, measure the length of the arm B. Click Ok to confirm.
Meaning of initial location top view and software parameter The speed is adjusted
according to requirement.

d).Click the Laser mode to switch to the laser mode. Power indicates output laser
intensity and Delay indicates laser burning time (unit: ms). The laser intensity and the
burning time are adjusted according to requirement. Generally power is set to
90%-100% and Delay is set to 20-60 for engraving.
NOTE:Before engraving, open the laser, set the laser intensity to 8-12, and observe
laser spot with the safety goggles. Calibrate the focus by the button below the laser
module. The key point of laser focus calibration: clockwise adjust the button, observe the
change of light spot on the wood board, anticlockwise adjust the button and observe
change of light spot on the wood board. Repeat for several times till the light spot is
smallest on the wood board, and turn off the laser. The adjustment process is shown in
the following figure.

Initial position axle side view, see (e) for the initial position corresponding to the
software.
e).The led graph file is in 135°scope of ring area as much as possible, excess of the
range may cause the drawn graph abnormal. Lead the following test
graph, …mDrawBot Download Package\Examples of Material\Test\Square.svg for
effect test. Select the check box , the laser become lit, set the laser
intensity to 90%-100% and laser burning time to 20-60ms, and cancel the selection.
( If the graph is deformed or not closed, 1. Inspect whether La and Lb are correct.
2. Adjust the tightness of the screw, calibrate levelness and so on. 3. See FAQs for
details)

VII、Example of completely using mDraw software
1. After the test is passed as shown above, mScara can operate smoothly. You may
draw complex graph.
2. Automatically or manually reset mScara to the initial position. ( ensure that
the serial port is properly connected, the parameter of the pen lift mechanism is
correctly set, and the power supply is properly connected.

3. Lead SVG graph, for example, ··\mDrawBot Download Package\Examples of
Material\l\Test\Drawing gear.svg, set the laser engraving parameter, as shown in
the following figure. The value is for reference.
4. Click the button of mDraw software mScara begins to operate. When the
machine stops operation, the graph has been drawn. The drawing effect is
shown below:
