Warnings and safety instructions
General warnings
WARNING
The individual responsible for operating this device on a daily basis
(patient, caregiver) must be able to read, understand and follow the
directions provided in this instructions for use manual, on the Invia
Motion NPWT pump display and by the healthcare professional.
The individual must be able to hear and respond to the auditory
signals.
Only use the Invia Motion NPWT system on the person for whom it
was ordered and only for its intended use.
Do not perform the therapy without your healthcare provider’s
supervision.
WARNING
Visually check the wound dressing and the Invia Motion NPWT
pump frequently.
If you see large amounts of blood in the dressing, tubing or
canister:
1. Turn off the Invia Motion NPWT pump by pressing the
button and holding for 3 seconds.
2. Apply pressure to your wound.
3. Seek immediate emergency medical assistance.

avoided, could result in death or serious injury.

If you have difficulty breathing, seek immediate emergency medical
assistance.
WARNING
Immediately contact your healthcare professional if you
experience any of the following situations:
– Significant vision or hearing loss
– Pain, soreness or redness around the wound
– Swelling, itching or rash around the wound
– Fever
– Strong odor from the wound
– Thick green drainage or any change in color of drainage
– Nausea, vomiting or diarrhea
– Difficulty breathing
– Dizziness or confusion
– Allergic reactions like redness, rash or hives, swelling or severe
itching
– Accumulation of exudate
– Exudate stagnation (not moving) in the tubing
WARNING
Once the healthcare professional has set the Invia Motion NPWT
pump pressure and mode settings, do not press the pressure
or mode setting buttons.
Pressing these buttons may change the settings of the Invia Motion
NPWT pump and could cause harm.
WARNING
The Invia Motion NPWT pump must be used 24 hours per day.
Do not stop the Invia Motion NPWT pump unless instructed by your
healthcare professional or if excessive bleeding occurs.
If the Invia Motion NPWT pump is stopped for more 2 hours,
the dressing must be changed. Contact your healthcare professional
to request a dressing change.

WARNING
If the Invia Motion NPWT pump stops working and cannot be
switched on, immediately call your healthcare professional.
CAUTION: U.S. Federal law restricts this device for sale or rental by
or on the order of a physician.
Purpose of the device
Your healthcare provider has prescribed Negative Pressure Wound
Therapy (NPWT) for you.
Negative Pressure Wound Therapy has been shown to help promo-
te healing in several different kinds of wounds. Negative pressure
(suction) is delivered to a wound through a pump. The suction,
or negative pressure, helps to remove fluid and close your wound.
Your healthcare professional will place a special dressing on your
wound and a tube will go from your wound to the canister on the
pump. The pump turned on and set to the prescribed pressure to
remove the fluid from your wound. The fluid will be collected in the
canister. The treatment will be applied 24 hours a day.
Intended use
The Invia Motion NPWT system is intended to be used by health-
care professionals or adequately trained lay users.
Healthcare professionals are responsible to train lay users accor-
ding to the patient instructions for use and explain all related safety
information.
Intended patient population
The Invia Motion NPWT system is intended to be used on patients
only exhibiting conditions as described in the indications for use.
The device has not been studied in pediatric patients.

Intended environment
The Invia Motion NPWT system is intended for use in acute, exten-
ded and home care settings.
When to use the device (Indications for use)
The Invia Motion Negative Pressure Wound Therapy (NPWT)
system is indicated for patients who would benefit from a suction
device (NPWT) as when used on open wounds it creates an
environment that promotes wound healing by secondary or tertiary
(delayed primary) intention by preparing the wound bed for closure,
reducing edema, promoting granulation tissue formation and
perfusion, and by removing exudate and infectious material.
When used on closed surgical incisions, the Invia Motion NPWT
system is also intended to manage the environment of surgical
incisions that continue to drain following sutured or stapled closure
by maintaining a closed environment and removing exudate via the
application of Negative Pressure Wound Therapy.
The Invia Motion NPWT system is appropriate for the following
indications:
– Acute or subacute wounds
– Chronic wounds
– Dehisced wounds
– Pressure ulcers
– Diabetic/Neuropathic ulcers
– Venous insufficiency ulcers
– Traumatic wounds
– Partial thickness burns
– Flaps and grafts
– Closed surgical incisions
When not to use the device (Contraindications)
The Invia Motion NPWT system is contraindicated in the presence of:
– Necrotic tissue with eschar present
– Untreated osteomyelitis
– Non-enteric and unexplored fistulas
– Malignancy in the wound

– Exposed vasculature
– Exposed nerves
– Exposed anastomotic site of blood vessels or bypasses
– Exposed organs

Service life
The service life of the Invia Motion Endure is three years.

completeness and general condition.

CAUTION
The Invia Motion NPWT pump must remain in an upright
position or lying display side up during use. Do not invert the
Invia Motion NPWT pump or turn the display side down.

If the Invia Motion NPWT pump is placed in an inappropriate
position, the pressure will be interrupted and canister full
notification will appear (acoustic signal and symbol on display).
The Invia Motion canister/tubing set must be replaced.

General safety at home
CAUTIONS/WARNINGS
– Do not use extension cords with the Invia Motion NPWT pump.
– Position the power cord so that it will not cause someone to trip
and fall.
– Never place the power supply cord around your neck.
– Keep the power supply cord away from hot surfaces.
– Do not unplug the power supply cord from the wall outlet by
pulling on the cord.
– Do not try to fix or repair the Invia Motion NPWT pump. Contact
your caregiver if the Invia Motion NPWT pump is not working.
– Keep the Invia Motion NPWT pump clean and dry.
– Never place the Invia Motion NPWT pump in water or liquids.
– If the Invia Motion NPWT pump gets wet, dry with a towel. Do
not dry the Invia Motion NPWT pump in a microwave.
– Keep the Invia Motion NPWT pump away from children and pets.
– Keep the Invia Motion NPWT pump protected from direct
sunlight.
– Wireless communication equipment such as wireless home net-
work devices, mobile phones, cordless telephones and their base
stations, and walkie-talkies can interfere with the Invia Motion
pump and should be kept at a minimum distance of 1 foot (30
cm) away from the Invia Motion pump. This may cause insuffi-
cient battery charging or may lead to an internal fault. See the
chapter Notifications and troubleshooting for actions to take in
the case of an internal fault.
– Explosion hazard – the Invia Motion NPWT pump is not for use in
potentially explosive environments including oxygen enriched
environments and in areas of flammable anesthetics.

Sleeping
– Make sure the Invia Motion canister/tubing set will not become
kinked.
– Prevent the Invia Motion NPWT pump from falling to the floor
during sleep.
– Always charge the Invia Motion NPWT pump while sleeping.
Showering, bathing and washing
– Do not use the Invia Motion NPWT pump while bathing or
showering.
– The Invia Motion NPWT pump can be disconnected for a short
period of time (up to 20 minutes) in order to change clothes or
perform personal hygiene. Discuss bathing plans with your
healthcare professional.
– Prevent the Invia Motion NPWT pump from getting wet.
– Do not place the Invia Motion NPWT pump where it can fall into a
shower, sink or tub.
– Do not touch the Invia Motion NPWT pump if it has fallen into
water. Unplug the device immediately from the electrical outlet,
disconnect the Invia Motion NPWT pump from the dressing and
contact your healthcare professional.
If you observe a change in the vacuum level or an error condition,
move the Invia Motion NPWT system at least 1 foot (30 cm) from
the mobile phone when making or receiving calls. Turn the Invia
Motion NPWT system off and on again to reset it after an error
condition. Whenever possible, a safety distance of at least
1 foot (30 cm) between the Invia Motion NPWT pump and a mobile
phone is recommended.

Set up instructions
WARNING
Check the Invia Motion NPWT pump frequently to make sure it
is running. Visually check the wound dressing, the area around
the wound and the fluid in the canister for signs of infection or
other complications as instructed by your healthcare profes-
sional.

healthcare professional.

When you leave the house
– Check the battery status and recharge the battery if necessary
before leaving the house.
– For your convenience, place the Invia Motion NPWT pump into
the carrying case and store excess tubing safely in the tubing
pouch located in the case.
– Do not forget to take a spare canister/tubing set and the power
supply with you. The power supply can be stored in the tubing
pouch.

WARNING
NPWT must run 24 hours a day. Do not stop the therapy unless
instructed by your healthcare professional or if excessive bleed-
ing occurs.
WARNING
The dressing should be changed and therapy restarted by
the healthcare professional if therapy is discontinued for more
than 2 hours.
WARNING
Invia Motion NPWT pump does not detect blockage along
tubing connected to the drain adapter or connected to the
curved arm of the Y-connector. Check dressing tubing con-
nected to the drain adapter or the curved arm of the
Y-connector frequently throughout the day to make sure tub-
ing is not kinked or blocked. If blockage is identified along
tubing connected to the drain adapter or tubing connected to
the curved arm of the Y-connector, contact your healthcare
professional.

Press the button and hold for
3 seconds. Press only once.
Backlight
The backlight can be activated by pressing the button. Without
further interaction the backlight will turn off after 10 seconds.

Set up carrying case
The Invia Motion NPWT pump is intended to be worn in a carrying
case during operation. One is included in the product package.
1. Open the carrying case.
2. Slide the Invia Motion NPWT pump into the designated upper
pocket and close the Velcro strap.
3. Place the excess tubing into the designated lower pocket and
close the Velcro strap.
4. Fold the Invia Motion NPWT pump and tubing sections of the
carrying case together and align the inner Velcro tabs to secure.
5. Secure the bag by closing the lid and fastening the button.
The carrying case strap can be worn over the shoulder or around
the waist.
To wear over the shoulder, attach the strap clips to the carrying
case. To wear as a belt, thread the strap through the two loops
located on the back of the case.

Charge battery
1. Open the Direct Current (DC) socket by pulling the small pro-
tective cover open.
2. Connect the small end of the power supply into the Invia Motion
NPWT pump.
3. Plug the large end of the power supply into a wall outlet. The
moving bars on the battery display will indicate that charging is
occurring.
Battery Status Symbols

Check the battery charge status periodically. The battery will be
fully charged after approximately 4 hours. Once charged, the
symbol will appear constantly on the display. After charging is com-
pleted, unplug the power supply from the wall and disconnect the
Invia Motion NPWT pump from the power supply. Charging of the
battery can be slowed when exposed to high temperatures. Close
the Direct Current (DC) socket by pressing the small protective

cover over the opening. When the battery is fully charged, it should
last approximately 10 hours. If the Invia Motion NPWT pump is run-
ning continuously due to an air leakage, the battery may need to be
recharged earlier (after approximately 4 hours).
CAUTION
NPWT therapy must be continued while charging the Invia
Motion NPWT pump’s battery. Do not turn the Invia Motion
NPWT pump off while charging the battery.
Always charge the battery overnight. Make sure the battery
compartment on the back of the Invia Motion NPWT pump is
closed. Do not remove the battery from the Invia Motion NPWT
pump.
Change canister/tubing set
To be used by healthcare professionals or adequately trained
caregivers only.
Change the canister minimum once a week or when it appears full,
when the canister full signal sounds or when the canister full sym-
bol is displayed.
1. Wash hands and prepare clean paper towel.
2. Remove the Invia Motion NPWT pump from the carrying case.
Switch the Invia Motion NPWT pump off by pressing the
button and holding for 3 seconds. Press only once.

3. Position the clamp next to the quick-connector and close the
clamp on the pump tubing and close the clamp on the dressing
tubing.

4. Disconnect the Invia Motion NPWT pump tubing from the dres-
sing tubing by pressing on the sides of the quick-connector.
Have a paper towel or tissue available to cover the tip of the
used tubing to protect against wound fluid leakage.
5. Detach the full canister/tubing set by rotating the canister to the
left.
6. Wash hands.
7. Obtain a new Invia Motion canister/tubing set and open the
packaging.
CAUTION
Do not use an Invia Motion canister/tubing set if the sterile
packaging is damaged or has expired.

Make sure the correct canister is used: 0 87.4 016 .
Contact your healthcare professional if the correct canister is
not available.
8. Remove the new canister/tubing set from the packaging and
attach it to the Invia Motion NPWT pump by pressing the canis-
ter to the Invia Motion NPWT pump (1) and rotating to the right
(2). Make sure the canister is aligned with the label to the front.
9. Connect the Invia Motion tubing connector to the wound drain
tubing. Push together until you hear a click.
10. Open the clamp on the dressing tubing. Also make sure the
clamp on the pump tubing is open.
11. Switch the Invia Motion NPWT pump on by pressing the
button. Slide the Invia Motion NPWT pump into the carrying
case.
12. Discard the used canister/tubing set according to instructions
provided by your healthcare professional.

Do not panic if an acoustic signal sounds.
Follow the instructions below.
1. If the Invia Motion NPWT pump is in the carrying case open the
lid of your carrying case.
2. Press the button to mute the acoustic signal for 60 seconds
(the button can be pressed every time the signal sounds, with
the exception of “Battery fully discharged” and after the timer of
15 or 60 days plus 72 hours of safety time is used up).
