Congratulations on the purchase of your
new Frypan from the Mistral and The
Australian Women’s Weekly range of
electrical appliances.
Before rst using your new Frypan, it is most
important that you read and follow the instructions
in this use and care booklet, even if you feel you
are familiar with this type of appliance.
Your attention is drawn particularly to the section
dealing with IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS. Find a
safe and convenient place to keep this booklet
handy for future reference.
This appliance has been designed to operate
from a standard domestic power outlet. It is not
intended for industrial or commercial use.
Before rst use, carefully unpack the unit
and remove all packaging material. Wash the
appliance thoroughly, rinse with clean water and
dry. Now “condition” the non-stick surface inside
the Frypan with a thin coating of cooking oil wiped
on with a paper towel.
Conditioning should be done after every six weeks.
If washed in the dishwasher, the Frypan should be
conditioned after each wash.
For ease of cleaning and safety, your Frypan has
a removable power connector.
To attach the power connector to the Frypan body,
steady the body by holding the handle opposite
the power inlet with one hand, hold the power
connector with the other hand and push it rmly
into the power inlet as far as it will go. Reverse
this procedure to remove the power connector,
taking care not to spill hot liquids.
Once the power connector is connected to the
Frypan, plug into a standard domestic power
outlet and turn the temperature control knob to
the required temperature. A signal light on the
power connector will indicate that the power
is “ON”. During the cooking time, the light will
go “ON” and “OFF” showing that the selected
temperature is being maintained.
However, this temperature setting may need to be
varied slightly to suit your personal preference.
“Keep Warm” Temperature
To keep food warm until ready to serve, turn the
temperature control knob to “Warm”. Food will
not burn at this temperature.

Temperature Settings and Cooking Times
Please note that the temperature settings and
times given throughout this booklet may need to
be varied depending on individual requirements.
Simmering Temperature
Since the boiling point of water is affected by
differences in altitude and other conditions, the
simmering temperature should be determined for
your Frypan in your area by following this simple
home test:
Pour 4 cups of water into the Frypan; cover,
leaving steam vent open. Attach power connector
to the Frypan, then plug into a standard domestic
power outlet. Set temperature control knob to
120°C. After 10 minutes, water will be boiling
steadily. Turn temperature control knob slowly
anti-clockwise until the signal light goes off.
This setting is the simmering temperature.
Note it below, or mark it on the temperature
control knob. Use this setting for simmering or
steaming.
My Frypan simmering temperature is _______.
Steam Vent
The MEF44 has a steam vent located within the lid
knob. The amount of venting can be adjusted as
required by the recipe or cooking technique.
The MREF50, MREF41, MEF10, MES45 & MXF64
have xed steam vents built-in to the glass lids.
Tilt Foot
(MEF44 only)
The MEF44 is tted with a tilt foot which is operated
by pushing the foot down while lifting the Frypan.
With the foot in position, the pan rests at an angle,
permitting excess cooking oil, fat, liquid, etc to
run to one side, away from the food.
How to care for your Frypan
The Teon® Platinum non-stick surface on your
Frypan allows you to cook with less oil or fat.
To achieve continued good results from your
Frypan, it is essential that you follow these care
and cleaning directions.
Note: The non-stick material is non-toxic
if inadvertently ingested.
Extremely high temperatures can cause discolouration
and reduce the life of any non-stick surface.
Generally, a medium setting on your Frypan
combined with the excellent heat distribution of
the aluminium body will provide sufcient heat
for most cooking needs. If high temperatures are
necessary, introduce the heat gradually by pre-
heating the Frypan on a medium setting for a few
minutes.
The use of “SOFT” utensils (eg, nylon, wood,
plastic) will prolong the life of the non-stick nish
although Teon® Platinum is metal-utensil safe.
Surface marks and scratching are normal and
will not effect the performance of the non-stick
coating. Deliberate cutting inside the Frypan is
not recommended as this will damage the nish.
Note: Even if the surface is scratched it will
not detract from the non-stick performance
of your Frypan.

To Clean the Teon® Platinum Non-Stick
Surface
Turn the temperature control knob to “Off”.
Switch power off at the power outlet and unplug
the cord, then remove the power connector from
the Frypan. The power connector may be warm
after use, so be careful when removing it.
Note: Never immerse the power connector
in water.
If necessary, wipe the power connector, temperature
control knob and cord with a damp cloth then
thoroughly dry. Allow the Frypan to cool before
washing.
Note: Never put cold water into a hot Frypan
as this may cause the metal to warp.
Wash the non-stick surface in clean warm water
and mild detergent after each use. Failure to do
this could result in a build-up of food residue,
particularly above the element area on the cooking
surface of the Frypan.
Do not use steel wool or coarse scouring pads. To
remove stubborn spots use a plastic mesh pad or
products with directions stating “safe for cleaning
non-stick surfaces”.
The Frypan can be washed in a dishwasher.
However, it is then necessary to re-condition it in
the same way as before rst use. The power inlet
where the power connector plugs into the Frypan
body requires special attention. It is most important
that this area is always kept clean and dry.
Note: If the cooking surface of your non-stick
Frypan should become stained, we suggest
that you use the following special cleaning
procedure – IN A WELL VENTILATED AREA.
• Mix 2 tablespoons of bicarbonate of soda with
1
/4 cup liquid bleach and 1 cup water.
• Boil this solution in the stained Frypan for 5
minutes without the lid.
• Wash thoroughly in clean warm water and
mild detergent.
• Rinse thoroughly and dry.
• Re-condition it in the same way as before
rst use.
To Clean the Lid
Aluminium lids
(MEF44 & MEF41SK)
Do not place aluminium lids in the dishwasher
as the aluminium inside the lid will discolour.
Instead, wipe the surface with warm water and
detergent. To remove stubborn spots on the
inside, use a household cleaner or soap-lled
steel wool pad. Rinse and dry well before storing.
Glass lids
(MREF50, MREF41, MEF10, MES45 & MXF64)
You can wash your glass lid in the dishwasher, or
hand-wash. To hand-wash, rinse the surface in
warm water, add detergent, rinse again and dry
well before storing.
Note: Excessive or hard use with steel wool
on the Frypan lid will dull the surface in time.

Your Frypan is a versatile cooking appliance, able
to perform most of the same functions as a small
oven, deep-fryer or frying pan. The following
cooking instructions and recipes are an indication
of the range of techniques and foods that can
be accomplished and prepared. Your favourite
recipes can be cooked equally well in this Frypan.
Roasting
(not suitable for MES45 & MEF10)
Season meat as desired, place in cold Frypan and
follow the roasting time and temperatures chart.
Baste during cooking. For a richer colour, preheat
Frypan to 150°C, add a small amount of oil or
margarine, and brown meat on all sides, then
lower temperature as shown on the chart.
Braising
Brown meat on all sides in hot fat. Season. Add
a small amount of liquid if necessary. Cover with
the lid. Cook at simmer temperature until tender.
Use for pot roasts, short ribs, round steaks, etc.
Baking
(MEF44 only)
You can bake in your Frypan by placing a trivet
in the Frypan and preheating to the desired
temperature. Use the temperature and baking
pan sizes specied in your particular recipe.
Additional cooking time may be necessary. Place
a baking pan on a trivet in your Frypan, and
bake with steam vent closed until the last 5 to10
minutes, depending on the length of cooking
time. Then open steam vent until food is nished.
Note: Food will not be as brown on top as
that which is oven-baked, but this does not
detract from either the texture or avour.
Dry Pan Frying
Place meat in the Frypan. Do not cover. Cook
slowly, turning occasionally. Brown meat on both
sides. Season. Use for steaks, patties, bacon, etc.
Pan Frying
Brown meat on all sides in a small amount of
fat. Season with salt and pepper. Do not cover.
Cook at a moderate temperature (150°C to 160°C)
until nished, turning occasionally. Remove from
Frypan and serve at once. Use for cooking steaks
suitable for grilling, patties, chops, etc.
Deep-Frying
(not suitable for MES45)
Place 3 to 4 cups (maximum) of oil in the Frypan.
Heat to 190°C. Wait until correct temperature is
reached before adding food. Maintain the frying
temperature at all times. It is a good idea to fry
only a single layer of food at a time, turning when
half done. With croquettes, fritters or doughnuts,
keep the food separated. Coat food as desired,
before adding to fat. After food is cooked to
golden brown, drain on paper towels to remove
excess fat.
Note: Do not cover the Frypan when deep-frying.
