Configuring yo u r 3G18WV for VO I P
The following steps will take you through the process of setting up your VOIP connection.
Step 1: Checking Computer Network Settings:
You will need to connect your computer directly to your VOIP device (modem, or T ) and set
the network connection on your computer to obtain an IP address automatically. Please follow
the instructions appropriate for your operating system below:
Below are the instructions for setting Windows XP to obtain an IP address automatically for
your ethernet connection:
1. Click on the St rt Menu, and go to “Control P nel”.
2. Click on “Network Connections”.
(If you only see "Network nd Internet Connections", open that first, and then click on
"Network Connections".)
3. Right click on “Loc l Are Connection” and select “Properties”.
4. Double-click on “Internet Protocol”.
5. Select "Obt in n IP ddress utom tic lly", and "Obt in DNS server
ddress utom tic lly".
6. Click “OK”, and then click “OK” (or “Close”).
Below are the instructions for setting Windows Vista to obtain an IP address automatically for
your ethernet connection:
1. Click on the St rt Menu, and go to “Control P nel”.
2. Click on “Network nd Sh ring Centre”.
(If you only see "Network nd Internet", open that first, and then click on "Network nd
Sh ring Centre".)
3. Click on “M n ge network connections” ( on the lefthandside of the window ).
4. Right click on “Loc l Are Connection” and select “Properties”.
5. Double-click on “Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)”.
6. Select "Obt in n IP ddress utom tic lly", and "Obt in DNS server
ddress utom tic lly".
7. Click “OK”, and then click “OK” again.

Below are the instructions for setting Windows 7 to obtain an IP address automatically for your
ethernet connection:
1. Click on the St rt Menu, and go to “Control P nel”.
2. Click on “Network nd Sh ring Centre”.
(If you only see "Network nd Internet", open that first, and then click on "Network nd
Sh ring Centre".)
3. Click on “Ch nge d pter settings” ( on the lefthandside of the window ).
4. Right click on “Loc l Are Connection” and select “Properties”.
5. Double-click on “Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)”.
6. Select "Obt in n IP ddress utom tic lly", and "Obt in DNS server
ddress utom tic lly".
7. Click “OK”, and then click “OK” again.
Below are the instructions for setting Mac OS X to obtain an IP address automatically for your
ethernet connection:
1. Click on the pple Menu, and go to "System Preferences".
2. Click on "Network".
3. Click on “Ethernet” or "Built-in Ethernet".
4. Click on the "Configure" drop-down box, and select "Using DHCP" then click
"Apply".

Step 2: Configuring your VOIP settings:
Troubleshooti n g Tip
One sided VOIP calls may be an indication of a missing or misconfigured port forwarding rule.
1. Open your web browser and go to the address http://192.168.20. 1 , using admin as
the system password to login to the router.
2. Select VoiP Setup and press the Enter button or select the VoIP administrator's menu
option at the top of the page as shown below in Figure 1.

3. Select SIP Settings from the VoIP menu options and then Service Dom in settings
page.
4. Enter the VoIP account settings that GoTalk, your VoIP Service Provider (VSP) has
directed you to use as shown by the text box directions in Figure 2 below.
5. The following page describes and explains each field in the Service Domain Settings
page.

Service Dom in Fields
Displ y N me The Display Name for your VoIP Service. This is most often the VoIP phone
number you have been assigned by your VoIP Service Provider (VSP).
Other options are the VoIP account owner's name or a company name.
User N me The VoIP phone number you have been assigned by your VoIP Service
Provider (VSP).
Register N me Sometimes known as uthentication ID, enter the VoIP phone number you
have been assigned by your VoIP Service Provider (VSP).
Register P ssword The VoIP account password that has been assigned by your VoIP Service
Provider.
Re lm realm is a protection domain used by some VoIP Service Providers for
security with the VoIP Service Provider SIP Domain name usually being
added for this field.
Dom in Domain name or IP address as specified by your VoIP Service Provider
(VSP).
Proxy Server Domain name or IP address as specified by your VoIP Service Provider
(VSP).
Registr r registrar is a server that accepts registrations from users and collates
these registrations, (which are essentially location information), in a
database known as a Location Service. This associates a user with a
particular location (IP address); which is known as a ‘binding’ in SIP
(Session Initiation Protocol or SIP used for VoIP traffic). Unless directed
otherwise by your VoIP Service Provider enter the SIP domain name or IP
address as specified by your VoIP Service Provider (VSP).
Use Outbound Server If you wish to make outbound phone calls using VoIP (Voice over Internet
Protocol) instead of via POTS (Plain Old Telephone System) enable this
option.
Outbound Proxy Domain name or IP address as directed by your VoIP Service Provider
(VSP).
Subscribe for MWI Enable or Disable the use of the “Message Waiting Indicator” function. This
service will only be available if your VoIP Service Provider (VSP) has an
MWI server in uses You may need to request that this service be enabled
by your VoIP Service Provider (VSP).on your VoIP account.
Refresh time for MWI Set the time period between MWI checks in seconds.
MWI Server URI Enter the IP address for the MWI server that your VoIP Service Provider
(VSP) uses.
St tus The current status of your VOIP service.

6. fter entering all relevant Service Domain fields press the S ve button.
7. The St tus field in the Service Domain Settings will state that the SIP status is currently
Registered after the VoIP account settings have been successfully entered, saved and
activated on the 3G18WV.
8. To confirm the VoIP connection status select the St tus option from the administrator's
menu at the top of the page. The VoIP status will indicate that VoIP service is registered
and in a ready state, as shown in Figure 3 below.
