TheAlarisprintercomesequippedwithastart‐upkit,whichincludes
toolsandaccessories.Thesetoolsandaccessoriesmayberequiredduring
theinstallationandareavailableforusebythecustomer.
Itisrecommendedthatthestart‐upkitbestoredneartheAlarisprinter.
Thestart‐upkitincludesthefollowing:
•CustomerToolkit—Allenkeys,screwdrivers,amirror,ascraper,a
spatulaandaloupeforregularoperationandmaintenance.The
toolsarekeptinaspecialpouch.
•Consumableitems—wipingcloths,pinkpaper,transparenciesand
soon,tomaintaintheprinterforapproximatelytwoyears.
•PartsandaccessoriesforemergencymaintenanceoftheAlaris
system.
2.4 Noise Level
Thenoiselevelatadistanceof100cm(39.4in)fromallsidesoftheAlaris
printerislowerthan70dBwhileprinting.Impactnoisewasnotfound.

3.1 Shipping Information and Responsibility
TheObjetdistributorwillarrangeshipmenttothecustomer’sfacilities,as
indicatedinthe“shipto”partoftheinvoice.Itisthecustomer’s
responsibilitytoprovidethedistributorwithdetaileddelivery
instructions.Thecustomerisresponsiblefortransportingthesystemtoa
suitablypreparedinstallationsite.Objet‐certifiedCustomerSupport
Engineerswilladvisethecustomeronsitepreparation,uponrequest.
3.2 Shipping Pallets
Theprinterarrivesonawoodenpallet.Thepallet’sapproximatesizeand
weightappearinthefollowingtable:

Itisrecommendedthatahandpallettruckwiththefollowing

3.4 Unloading Space
Inordertoselectthecorrecttypeoftrucktodelivertheprinter,the
presenceorabsenceofaloadingdockatthecustomersitemustbe
identified.
Checktheroutefromtheunloadinglocationtotheinstallationlocation
andmakesuretherearenoobstructions.
3.5 Unloading Assistance
Thecustomermustprovideprofessionalunloaderstounloadthepallets
andtransferthemtothesite.Theunloaderswillassistthedistributor’s
personnelinunpackingtheequipment.
3.6 Training
AftertheinstallationoftheAlaris3‐Dprintingsystem,anauthorized
Objetcustomersupportengineerwilltrainanoperatorandsupervisethe
operationoftheprinter(1½workdays).Theprinteroperatorneedstobe
availableduringtheentireinstallationandtrainingperiod—twowork
days.

4 Site Requirements
Thefollowingfactorsshouldbeconsideredwhenchoosingasuitable
locationfortheAlarisprinterandserverworkstation:
•Isolationfromsourcesofvibrationsuchasgeneratorsandcentral
air‐conditioningsystems.
•Protectionagainstsprinklersorpipescarryingliquidsabovethe
system.
•Adequatefreespaceatthefrontoftheprintertoensureconvenient
accessforloadingmaterialsandremovingprintedmodels.
4.1 Floor Area
Forconvenience,ObjetrecommendsthatyouplacetheAlarisprinterona
stabletableorstandwithlockablewheels.
YoucanorderaprinterstandfromObjetusingpartnumber:OBJ‐04005.
Innormaloperation,theAlarisprinterrequiresaclearspaceof20cm
behindtheprinter.

Ifyourspecificworkareadoesnotmeetthisminimumfloorplan,consult
withcustomersupporttoconsiderotherpossiblearrangements.
Thesystemshouldnotbelocatednearheavymachinery(suchas
generators)thatmaycauseelectricalinterferenceorhighvibrationlevels.
Thesystemshouldbeprotectedfromsprinklersorpipescarryingliquids
abovethesystem.Similarly,donotplaceaWaterJet(usedforcleaning
models)within5meters(16feet)oftheprinter.
Theserverworkstationmustbelocatedwithin5meters(16feet)ofthe
Alarisprinter.Themonitor,keyboardandmouseoftheworkstationare
sharedwiththeAlariscomputer(thekeyboardandthemousemustbe
USB‐typedevices).
ShelvesandcabinetsmaybelocatedinthevicinityoftheAlarissystemto
allowconvenientstorageoftools,parts,accessories,manualsand
containersormodel/supportmaterial.

Warning:Four (4) people are required to lift the Alaris printer onto the table.

5.1 Electrical Power Requirements
5.1.1 Power Requirements
Alarisprintershavethefollowingpowerrating:

ontheprinter’spowerline,subjecttothelocalelectricalcode.
TheAlaris3‐Dprintingsystemrequiresastableanduninterrupted
powersupply.Thepowertothesystemshouldbesupplieddirectlyfrom
themainelectricalpanel,withoutanytappedfeedsontheline.
5.1.2 Grounding
TheAlarisprinterisgroundedthroughthesingle‐phaseACplug.Make
surethatthegroundconnectioninthewalloutletisproperlygrounded,in
accordancewiththelocalelectricalsafetycodes.
5.1.3 Main Power Connectors
TheAlarissystemisshippedwithoutapowercable.Thepowercableis
suppliedbythelocalObjetdealer.

5.2 Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS)
Toavoidprintingproblemsduetopoweroutagesandotherpower
problems,itisrecommendedthatthecustomerinstallequipmentthat
ensuresacontinuouspowersupply,withthefollowingfunctionalityand
specifications.
5.2.1 Functionality
ThedeviceusedmusthaveaUSBalertoutputfor“gracefulsystem
shutdown.”(DonotuseaUPSdevicewhichonlyhasaSerialCom(RS‐232
Protocol)signaloutput.)
5.2.2 Specifications
RefertotherelevantvoltagebelowwhenselectingaUPS:
5.3 Communication Lines
Atelephoneline,forgeneralcommunicationandservicecalls,is
recommendednearthesystem(incloseproximitytotheAlarisprinter).
At this time, the Alaris printer is not supplied with the software to take advantage
of “graceful system shutdown.”

Table 5: UPS requirements
To provide adequate protection if a power failure occurs, the UPS requirements
are calculated to supply about 20% more than the printer’s power rating, shown in
section 5.1.1 on page 13, for the estimated time it may take to shut your system
down in a controlled manner. The UPS device recommended is not intended to let
you continue working.

5.4 Server Workstation
Thecustomermustprovideacomputerfortheserverworkstation,with
thefollowingminimumrequirements:
TheserverworkstationmusthaveauserwithAdministratorprivileges.
Noadditionalprograms(includingantivirussoftware)shouldbeinstalled
ontheserverworkstation.
Objetrecommendsthattheserverworkstationbeconnectedtothe
customer’sLANbeforeprinterinstallation.
Theserverworkstationspecifications(listedinTable6)arerelevantforall
CADandremoteclientworkstationsthatsendmodelstotheprinter,with
theexceptionofthefollowing:
•Clientworkstationsrequireaminimumof1 GB RAM.
•ClientworkstationsdonotrequireaUSBconnectiononthemouse
andkeyboard.

The above table only gives the minimum hardware requirements for the server
workstation. The customer can decide to use a computer with faster and more
powerful processors, increased RAM and hard disk space, and so on.
You control both the built-in Alaris computer and the server workstation with same
keyboard-monitor-mouse set by using a KVM switchbox. The switchbox is
provided in the printer Start-up Kit.

The Alaris printing system enables printing from all workstations connected to the
customer’s network. Therefore, during the site preparation, identify all such
workstations to ensure that each has the correct operating system and computer
specifications.

30%–70%non‐condensing.Theroomrequiresconstantrefreshingofthe
humidairbyappropriateventilationunits(refertoSection5.7.3,
Ventilation).
5.7.3 Ventilation
Ventilationisrequiredtomaintainthenecessaryenvironmentconditions
intheroomwheretheAlarissystemisoperated(seeabove).The
ventilationsystemshouldhavethecapacitytoreplacealloftheairinthe
roomfourtimesanhour.
5.8 Waste Disposal (for Model/Support Material)
Thecustomerisresponsiblefordisposingalloftheliquidandsolidwaste
accordingtolocallawsandregulations.Thiswastealsoincludesthe
following:
•Wipesandglovesusedforcleaningtheprinter
•Printingmaterialcartridges
5.9 Solvent/Cleaning Solution
Thecustomerisresponsibleforstockingeitherisopropanolorethanol
(>96%).Atleastoneliterofeithersolventshouldbeavailableatthesiteat
alltimes.
Isopropanolisacommonsolventthatcangenerallybesuppliedbyany
chemicalstore.Thefullnameofisopropanolis2‐propanoloriso‐propyl
alcohol(IPA).
Ifisopropanolisnotavailable,ethanol(ethylalcohol)(>96%)isan
alternativecleaningsolvent.
The Alaris printer evacuates air using an internal blower with a capacity of
106 CFM (cubic feet per minute) (180 m3per hour).
Plastic containers made from monomer-soluble materials such as polystyrene or
polyvinyl chloride should not be used for the storage of 3-D printer waste.

5.10 Storage of Printing Materials
5.10.1 Storage and Transport Conditions
Storecontainersofmodelandsupportmaterials,indoors,inadryarea
withadequateventilationandwiththetemperaturekeptbetween16–27
degreesCelsius(60–81degreesFahrenheit).Similarly,transportationof
thesematerialsrequiresadryenvironmentkeptbetween16–27degrees
Celsius(60–81degreesFahrenheit).
Printingmaterialsarecombustible.Neverexposeprintingmaterialsto
flames,heatorsparks.Printingmaterialsshouldbestoredinconformance
withapplicablefiredepartmentandinsurancecompanyregulationsand
otherapplicablelaws,regulations,codesandguidelines.
5.10.2 Shelf Life
Alarisprintingmaterialscanbeuseduntiltheexpirydateindicatedonthe
container,providedthatthecontainerisundamaged.Inventory
provisionsshouldbemadetoinsurethatcontainerswiththeclosest
expirydateareusedfirst.
5.10.3 Printing Material Containers
PrintingmaterialsforAlarisprintersaresuppliedinUV‐proofcontainers.
Whenacontainerisnotinuse,thecontainermustbecappedtoprotectthe
materialfromcontaminationandstrayUVradiation.Inaddition,keeping
acontainercappedminimizestheriskofaccidentalspillageofthe
material.
5.11 Fire Control
Agasfireextinguishershouldbeusedincaseoffireinornearthesystem.
Otherextinguishersarealsoacceptable,buttheuseofliquidfire
extinguishersmustbeavoided.(Contactyourlocalfireauthoritiesfor
recommendations.)
If the printing materials are not stored under the recommended conditions, their
effective life is shortened.
Plastic containers made from monomer-soluble materials such as polystyrene or
polyvinyl chloride should not be used for the storage of spilled material.
