How to adjust the ADF Top Cover assembly
to stop the gear grinding noise on the
MB760/770 – MC770/780 – MPS 5502 –
MPS3537 – MPS4242
1. Open the ADF Top Cover using the lock lever to lift up.
2. The ADF Top Cover in the open position.

3. The ADF Top Cover hinge locations.
4. Find the ADF Top Cover hinge locking tab.

5. Use a flat blade screw driver to gently move the tab to the unlock position
6. The hinge locking tab in the open position

7. Push on the outside of the ADF Top Cover hinge to move the hinge pivot pin out of its
mounting hole.
8. Hinge pivot pin out of position.
9. Repeat steps 5, 6, and 7 for the other hinge and remove the ADF Top Cover

10. Place the ADF top cover on a table top as shown below.
11. Loosen the 4 mounting screws (a) of the "Top Guide Assy."
Once all four screws are loose there should now be play on "Top Guide Assembly."

12. Manually shift "Top Guide Assembly" in the direction indicated by the blue arrows
as close to the edge of the ADF Top Cover as possible. While holding the “Top Guide
Assembly” in this new position re-tighten 4 mounting screws (a).
13. Reinstall the ADF Top Cover assembly onto the printer.
Note: If the gear noise does not stop after the above procedure has been made, please
replace the “ADF Top Cover Assembly" (P/N 45059201) with a new one.
