Polarizing Microscope
To ensure the safety and obtain satisfactory performance, please study this instruction manual thoroughly

use
the
instrument.

ATTENTIONS
1. Disassembly only by the professionals.
The microscope has been adjusted before shipping, Unprofessional-person should
not disassemble and remove any other parts.
If you have any questions, please contact with manufacturer or local distributor.
2. Note the input voltage if identical with operating voltage of
instruction.
This instrument designed for wide input voltage (100V~240V,47~63HZ), applicable
to most area .But if the supply voltage exceeds this range, the instrument will be
seriously damaged.
3. Use in safe way, prevent burns and fire.
When the Instrument power in working, temperature of bulb and lamp house will rise
sharply to meet the heat balance, so pay attention to anti-hot logo in case of be burned.
Bulb should be replace after cool down .
Do not use alcohol, gasoline, paper and other combustibles near the instrument, to
prevent a fire! !
4. Notes on replacing the bulb.
The instrument used with 12V /20W imported halogen lamp of G4, replacement
should be used the same specifications of the bulb, or it may cause equipment
damage.
Before replacing the lamp, must turn off power switch, and unplug it in case of
electric shock.!
Please don’t put finger mark、dust or oil strain etc on the bulb when In
replacement.
5. Requirements for handling and using environment
Please cut off the power and unplug the power plug before moving. Be careful not to
crush your finger when placed.
This instrument is a precision instrument, and it should be handle with care, severe
shock can cause serious damage to the inner related parts.
The required available environment for using of the equipment:
Indoor temperature: 0 ℃ ~ 40 ℃ Maximum relative humidity: 85%
High temperature or high humidity may cause mildew, fog or dew of the optical
components, will result in the instrument not work.
6. For the protection of the environment, please properly handle the
microscope packing waste (such as: cardboard, foam, etc. )!

1. Purposes
This transmitting polarizing microscope is designed on the basis of biological
microscope ,use the polarization of light to make microscopic observation for double
refraction material. It is widely used in geology, chemical industry ,metallurgy,
semiconductor, petroleum, spinning field etc, also play important role in biological,
phytology, pharmacology, pathology field etc.

2.3.6.Rotatable stage：

With high precision bearing construction , rotatable stage has been reset before
factory ,polarizing attached mechanical stage is optional .
2.3.7. Focusing unit:
Coaxial Coarse And Fine Focusing Knobs, Coarse stroke 22mm, up position is
optional；Fine division 2µm, Condenser up-down range 25mm.
2.3.8. Condenser：
Abbe Condenser N.A.1.25 , Adjustable Aperture Diaphragm , Aperture Center
Can Be Adjustable ,
2.3.9. Polarizer:
Installed In The Bottom Of The Condenser ,Can Rotate Out Of The Optical
Path.
2.3.10.Filter: Located Upon The Collector, Blue Is Standard ,Can Be Removed.
2.3.11.Antifungus Device:
Objective, Eyepiece And Head All Take Antifungus Measures.

3. Installation and use
3.1 Installation
3.1.1 Take out main body and related parts，accessory ,tool, dust cover etc ,place carefully on
the working desk.
3.1.2 Make sure all items taken out before deposal packing case.
3.1.3 Loose the locking screw with socket head wrench(Fig.2-26),detach the monocular head
from main body.
3.1.4 Install midbody in the hole which on the upper end of main body’s arm( note the location
direction),and locking the screw(Fig.2-26).
3.1.5Install monocular head in the upper port of midbody, locking the screw for observing tube
(Fig.2-16) with small wrench.
3.1.6 Insert eyepiece in the tube .
3.1.7Please install objectives into the nosepiece in proper order according to magnification
power（switch to right place）.

3.1.8 Please connect main body with power line if in detachable power supply.
▲Make sure all items taken out before deposal packing case.
▲Nosepiece should be rotate by wrenching the outer gear rim.
▲handle gently during installation, especially don’t touch lens.
▲For the protection of the environment, please properly handle the microscope packing
waste.
3.2 Operation
3.2.1 Electric component
Make sure the power supply voltage in input voltage range,then plug in socket ,if not will
cause damge for instrument.The microscope has rotatable potentiometer with switch ,it will
prolong bulb’s service life in case of high electricity current.
3.2.2.Place sample.
Please put cover glass upward on the stage , hold with clamps.
Placing sample should be carefully in case of damage. The sample should be put in optical path
by vertically and horizontally moving handle.
3.2.3 Condenser (see Fig.1-2)
a. Lift
Adjusting the distance between condenser and sample by rotating condenser lifting
handle ,can change the light’s degree of uniformity for best brightness.
b. Adjustment of Aperture Diaphragm
Adjust the size of aperture diaphragm by sliding the aperture diaphragm handle to
change sample’s contrast.
Normally, make the image full of 70%-80% of objective exit pupil diameter will get
satisfactory contrast grade .
3.2.4 Focusing
Because 10X objective has big field of view, long depth of field, can find image plane easily,
so usually making focus with it.
a. Put 10X objective in optical path for general outline ,then rotate fine focusing knob slowly
until becoming distinct for satisfactory image.
b. All equipped objectives have been adjusted through accurate focus, image should be distinct
with other objective after adjusting focus with 10Xobjective, If not, can rotate the fine focusing
knobs until getting satisfactory image.
3.2.5 Polarizing observation
a. Confirm the polarizer which under condenser has been moved in the optical path. It is in
horizontal direction ,has been adjusted in manufacture.

b. Put the up analyzer in good position and rotate to 0°,then analyzer and polarizer should in
orthogonal position, field will become more darker from objective, otherwise should adjust the
analyzer.
You can determine mineral slice sample’s interference colors order, birefringence ,extinction
type, extinction angle, elongation sign etc through orthogonal polarizing angle , Also can
judge whether it’s crystal twin mineral.
c. Switch analyzer to 90°, the analyzer and polarizer in same direction, the polarizing light can
transmit completely if no sample on stage and can observe in bright field. If sample slice has
anisotropic material
(besides vertical optical axis ) also can observe interference color for complementary color, it is
different from orthogonal interference color.
d. Putting the polarizer out of optical path can achieve single polarizing observation.
Single polarizing light can observe and determine mineral’s outside characteristic(shape,
cleavage), optical properties of light absorption(color,diversity),optical properties related with
refractive index(processus, exasperate, edge, baker red、dispersion etc.)
e. Angular deflection of analyzer can enhance contrast when in
bright field.
f. According to sample’s interference pattern to choose suitable compensation slip(λ , λ/4,
quartz wedge) ,then insert the midbody slot, mark side is upward ,location notch is
backward(left is λ, right is λ/4,middle for normal observation). quartz wedge also in the same
notch.
λ( gypsum、first class red)slip can show first class purplish red in orthogonal polarizing light,
inserting optical path will higher or lower
the interference color lever, is appropriate for mineral with more lower interference color(below
second yellow).
λ/4(mica) can show first class grey interference color ，inserting optical path will rise , drop
one interference color lever according to color spectrum ，is appropriate for mine with more
higher interference color .
Insert quartz wedge in the optical path will appear interference color from one class to four
class from thin to thick in orthogonal interference condition.
g. Putting Bertrand lens shift slip in the optical path can make conoscopic observation.

Conoscopic observation usually with high power objective and can clearly see the amplified
interference pattern, confirm its axis and slice direction, determine mineral’s light symbol and
axis angle (biaxial crystal）.
▲Don’t reverse the direction forcefully for left and right coarse & fine focusing knobs at
the same time ,otherwise will damage focusing unit.
▲Transform eyepiece with different power ，don’t direct wrench objective to rotate
nosepiece. should rotate the nosepiece by holding the insection of nosepiece cover to make
objective in right position for optical path，otherwise will cause effect for optical
performance.
3.2.6 Use of tension adjusting handle
Stage will slide down automatically after in long term usage.
Tightness adjusting ring can adjust coarse focusing unit in case of this conditions and make
adjusting operation comfortable.
Clockwise rotation is loose, in contrast ,is locked.
3.2.7 Notice after operation.
a. Please cut off power (rotate potentiometer knob )when not in use, unplug the power socket.
If use immersion oil ,should wipe off the lens and slices , put on dust cover.
b. If not in use for long time, suggest to place eyepiece 、objective in the dry containers (such
as moisture-proof cylinder), and place desiccant. Put on dust cover for main body.
4. Maintenance
4.1 Clean
4.1.1 Don’t touch the lens with hand, Dust on lens should be cleaned by soft brush or absorbent
cotton or cleaned by absorbent cotton, lens paper with the mixture of alcohol and ether
(proportion 1:4).
4.1.2 Alcohol and ether all are burnt easily, please take them away from fire. Be careful for turn
on and off power.
4.1.3 Don’t clean painted metal and galvanizing metal with organic solvent such as alcohol,
ether or the mixture of the both. Silicon cloth or soft cleaning preparation is suggested to clean
it.
4.1.4 Plastic should be cleaned by soft cloth with clear water.
4.2 Enviroment for use
4.2.1 Microscope should be used and placed in a cool, dry, non-dust, non-shake and
non-corrosive gases environment.
