PRECAUTIONS
All PestWest® ying insect management systems are fully insulated Class I appliances,
nevertheless, sensible precautions should be observed:
IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
Read all the instructions before using the appliance.
• Disconnect the system from the power supply when not in use, before servicing, when
changing lamps, cleaning, and similar actions.
• The Mantis Qualis ying insect system is to be kept out of the reach of children.
• Do not insert foreign objects into this system.
• This system is intended for use indoors only and is not waterproof.To avoid risk of re or
electric shock, do not use where it may be exposed to water or direct sunlight, including
roofed, but open porches.
• Do not use the Qualis outdoors.
• Do not install where dangerous concentrations of ammable gases or dusts are likely to
occur.
• Ensure the system is properly grounded.
• To maintain the attractive appearance of the Qualis, wipe down and clean as often as
required. Use a cloth dampened with water and detergent or a proprietary cleaner. Do not
use scouring pads or abrasives.
• Do not allow the glue board to become over-lled with dead insects. Change at regular
intervals as required by the catch or at least every 6-8 weeks. Ensure PestWest® 21”LED
glue boards are used as replacement for optimum performance.
• Ensure the operators have an adequate and secure working platform, when working on
the system.
• Use extension cord marked SJW-A, SJEW-A, or SJTW-A only
• Use only extension cords which have anchors and receptacles which accept the systems
anchor. Replace or repair damaged cords.
• The electrical rating of the extension cord must be as great as the electrical rating of the
system.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
All PestWest ying insect systems are made using the highest quality materials.The Mantis® Qualis is either conformal
polyester powder-coated nish over a Zintec (rust-resistant) chassis or a 304 brushed stainless-steel nish.
Mantis® Qualis has been installed with next generation Quantum X LED lament 370nm lamps coated with FEP shatter-
resistant coating and a full-size PestWest specialized LED glue board. The new Quantum X LED lament lamp is made
with the familiarT5 form (glass tube, end caps, and pins) used in our 14WT5 Quantum uorescent lamp.
The unique advantages of Quantum X LED lament lamp technology are the extended pattern of light distribution and
improved energy eciency. Increased y attraction is due to the LED laments 360° light distribution compared to high
power Surface Mounted Device (SMD) LEDs 120° light distribution (found within rst-generation LED y traps). LED
laments are more energy ecient than high power SMD UVA LEDs and uorescent lamps.
Each Quantum X LED lamp consists of 18 LED laments mounted on a frame.They are hermetically sealed within a
glass tube with state-of-the art gas cooling technology which is far superior to traditional metal heat sinks.
Each LED lament has 24 individual LEDs mounted on a transparent substrate, which enables the Quantum X LED lamp
to provide light in all directions.The combination of 360° light distribution and softer intensity of light produced by far
more LEDs (432 per lamp) gives the Quantum X superior ying insect capture performance.

Each Mantis® Qualis is carefully inspected and packed before leaving our factory. Before discarding the outer carton,
examine for obvious evidence of transport damage. Remove your Mantis® Qualis carefully. Be sure to check all packing
material for parts before installation.

MODE OF OPERATION
Electrical ying insect systems operate on the principle that most ying insects are attracted to light, particularly to the
ultraviolet (UVA) end of the light spectrum. Since insects are still active and will y at night, these systems should be left
operating 24/7/365.
PLACEMENT
The ecacy of the Qualis can be aected by the intensity of other light sources (ambient light and daylight). Place the
system where competition from other light sources is minimal.
Within food areas, place the system greater than 10 feet from food preparation surfaces or exposed food. Place to attract
ying insects away from sensitive areas. Assess where ies aggregate and place the system in that area. Place the system
where ying insects gain access (exterior windows and doors as well as dumpster and compactor areas).
Place the system where easily reached. Do not place over working machinery where access may be dicult or dangerous.

ELECTRICAL SUPPLY
The Qualis ying insect system is supplied with a removable 6.5ft (2m) input electrical cable which is terminated in a
connector to match the local electricity supply. The y system operates from a 100 - 240V, 50-60Hz electrical supply. To
extend the input electrical cable, consult with a licensed electrician.
INSTALLATION
The Mantis® Qualis is designed to be wall-mounted.The system has four keyholes in the back panel for easy wall-mounting.

To reduce ultraviolet light exposure to the eyes and skin, do not mount the Qualis within 3ft of where people work and turn
o the system while servicing. Additionally, PestWest recommends the system be mounted 5.9ft (1.8m) above the oor

The system can be wall-mounted using the upper two keyhole points only. If the wall is of drywall or stud partition, use all
four mounting points with drywall anchors to ensure secure mounting.
To mount the system onto a wall, open the front cover by lifting outwards from the bottom. When the cover is opened
approximately 45° it will stay open on its own. Next, open the two board retainer tabs at the bottom of the Qualis by
twisting outwards as shown below.

This will allow the glue board to be removed from the system by pulling the glue board downward.
Remove the upper LED lamp by gently grasping and rotating the lamp 90° until 2 clicks are heard.The LED lamp may be
withdrawn by sliding it out of the lamp holders.
Fold the board retainer tabs back into their original closed position and close the front cover. Looking at the front of the
Qualis, you can clearly see the two upper keyhole mounting points. Use the system back plate as a template. Place a level
along the top edge of the system to ensure it is level. Mark the two attachment points on to the mounting surface.

Drill the marked o points to a depth of approximately 1.5”using a 5/16 drill bit. Place the plastic anchors into the wall
then screw the screws into the plastic anchors leaving the head of the screw approximately 0.4” from the wall. If the wall is
drywall or stud partition, repeat the above procedure with the lower two attachment points.
The system will hook over the screws because of the keyhole feature. Fully tighten the screws to secure the system to the
wall.You may need to adjust the screws slightly so they don’t interfere with inserting the glue board. Re-install the LED
Lamp. CAUTION: refer to the“CHANGINGTHE LED LAMPS”section to ensure the LED lamp is installed correctly. Re-install
glue board (opposite procedure to removal). Secure the power cord to the wall or other rm surface prior to connecting to
the power supply.
MAINTENANCE
Always switch the Mantis Qualis o for maintenance.To clean your Qualis, always use a cloth dampened with water and a
MILD non-abrasive detergent. Do not use scouring pads or abrasives.
The Mantis Qualis Quantum X LED lamps should be replaced at least once every 3 years. Record the system installation
date on the label.
The Quantum X LED lamp is made from glass and has a shatter-resistant coating (use in glass exclusion zones).This shatter-
resistant coating is the highest quality available. FEP shatter-resistant coating is both UVA and operating temperature
tolerant, while allowing high UVA emission.
CHANGINGTHE GLUE BOARD
To ensure optimum performance of the Mantis® Qualis, install only PestWest LED 21”glue boards.The specialty
LED glue board has been developed in combination with the PestWest Quantum X LED lamp. Using any other glue
board will have a negative impact on the performance.
Regular assessments of the glue board are recommended. Switch o the system before servicing.The glue board should
be changed when full or at least every 6-8 weeks. Need help with identication? Connect with the PestWest technical team,

Open the front cover by lifting outwards from the bottom.When the cover is opened approximately 45° it will stay open on
its own.To remove the glue board, twist the glue board retainer tabs at the bottom of the Qualis outwards. Pull the old glue
board downward.
The glue board has a perforation line about 1.2”from the edge that allows this small section to be folded at a 90° angle.This
folded section will help catch any debris falling from the upper part of the glue board. Before removing the backing paper,
fold this section, and then remove the backing paper from the glue board.

Slide the glue board into position (glue-side facing the UVA LED lamps). Ensure
the glue board clicks into place under the spring retainers at the top of the
Qualis. Fold the board retainer tabs back into the original closed position (to
hold the folded section of the glue board in place) and close the front cover.
Switch the system back on.

CHANGINGTHE LED LAMPS
Switch o the Qualis before servicing. Open the front cover by lifting outwards from the bottom. When the cover is opened
approximately 45° it will stay open on its own. Grasp and rotate each LED lamp 90° until 2 clicks are heard.The LED lamps
can be withdrawn by sliding them out of the lamp holders.
CAUTION: Quantum X LED lamps are powered by Direct Current (DC) at one end only, which is recognized by the silver end
cap and printing on the left-hand-side (LHS), see Figure 5. The DC input pins (LHS) require installing in the correct polarity,
positive (+) and negative (-). The correct polarity is marked with a + & – symbol on the Quantum X LED lamp (LHS printing).
The corresponding LED lamp pins must be inserted to the corresponding + & – symbols on the metalwork (located on the
left side of the Mantis Qualis, next to the lamp holders), see Figure 5.
Replacing LED lamps is the opposite procedure to removal. Close the front cover and switch the system back on.

• When inserting LED lamps ensure the silver end cap is inserted into
the left-hand-side (LHS) lamp holders,
with the + & – symbols correctly aligned.
• The black non-voltage end cap should be inserted into the right-
hand-side (RHS) lamp holders.
• The LED lamps will not operate in any other conguration.
• The Mantis Qualis will only operate with Quantum X LED 370nm
550mmT5 lamps.
Dispose of LED lamps in accordance with local, state and/or federal
regulations. The Quantum X LED range of ying insect management systems are lead-free and mercury-free reducing
disposal costs, eliminating cross contamination and potential ground contamination along the waste stream Always follow
federal, state and/or local compliance requirements. PestWest USA always encourages recycling of any waste if possible.
PestWest reserves the right to vary model specications without notice.
WARRANTY
All PestWest ying insect management systems include a 3-Year Warranty (excludes LED lamps and glue board).
Switch o the system before servicing. LED lamps are not like uorescent lamps. Failure to disconnect
the system from the electrical supply (while removing or inserting a lamp) may permanently damage the
LEDs.This will result in LED lamp irreparable damage and is not covered under the warranty.

DESCRIPCIÓN DEL PRODUCTO
Todas las trampas de PestWest® se fabrican con materiales de la más alta calidad. El chasis del Mantis® Qualis está
fabricado en Zintec (resistente a la corrosión) con un revestimiento de poliéster pulverizado o de acero inoxidable de
grado 304 en acabado cepillado.
El tubo Quantum® X LED se fabrica en el tamaño estandarizado T5 utilizado en los tubos uorescentes convencionales
Quantum de 14WT5.
Las principales ventajas del tubo de Quantum® X LED son su patrón de distribución de luz más amplio y una mayor
eciencia energética. El incremento de la atracción de los insectos se debe, en parte, a la distribución de las tiras de LED,
que es de unos 360oen comparación con los 120oque los tubos LED SMD convencionales que pueden encontrase en
las trampas de luz LED de primera generación. Las tiras de LED también son más ecientes energéticamente que los
tubos UV-A LED SMD y los tubos uorescentes convencionales.
El tubo Quantum® X LED consiste en 18 tiras de LED montadas sobre un marco herméticamente sellado dentro de
un tubo de cristal con un sistema de refrigeración de gas de vanguardia, muy superior al disipador térmico de metal
tradicional.
Cada tira de LED está formada por 24 LEDs montados sobre una supercie transparente, lo que permite que la luz
de disperse en todas direcciones. La combinación de la distribución de luz en 360o y la suave intensidad de la luz
producida por una mayor cantidad de LEDs (432 por tubo) permiten al Quantum® X LED un poder de atracción
superior.

DESEMBALAJE DE SU APARATO
Cada aparato ha sido cuidadosamente inspeccionado y embalado antes de salir de la fábrica. Antes de deshacerse del
cartonaje, examínelo para vericar si hay señales obvias de daños por transporte. Saque el aparato de la caja y preste
atención a los materiales de embalaje en el momento de retirarlos antes de instalar la trampa.

FUNCIONAMIENTO
Las trampas de luz UV funcionan en base al principio de que la mayoría de los insectos voladores son atraídos a la luz,
especialmente a la luz del espectro ultravioleta (UV). Debido a que los insectos se mantienen activos y vuelan durante la
noche, las trampas deben dejarse en funcionamiento continuado las 24 horas del día para mayor efectividad.
POSICIONAMIENTO
Las trampas de luz UV deben situarse alejados de otras fuentes competitivas de luz como, por ejemplo, la luz del día.
Por lo tanto, coloque la trampa donde la competencia de otras fuentes de luz sea mínima.
En áreas de preparación de alimentos, coloque el aparato junto a, pero no directamente encima de, las supercies de
preparación (preferiblemente para atraer a las moscas fuera de zonas sensibles en vez de hacia ellas). Fíjese en dónde se
congregan los insectos y, si es posible, coloque el aparato allí o lo más cerca posible.
Coloque el aparato en una posición donde intercepte los principales puntos de entrada de insectos, por ejemplo, cerca
de puertas y ventanas que den al exterior, especialmente si dan a lugares donde se guarda basura.
Coloque el aparato en un lugar accesible y nunca sobre maquinaria en funcionamiento, donde el acceso puede ser
difícil y peligroso.
SUMINISTRO ELÉCTRICO
La trampa se suministra con un cable de toma eléctrica de 2 metros de longitud que se puede desacoplar de la trampa,
con enchufe europeo, funciona con una corriente eléctrica de 100-240V 50-60Hz. Si es necesario disponer de una toma
eléctrica de mayor longitud, se debería buscar los servicios de un electricista. En caso de quitar el enchufe del cable, éste
se deberá desechar con seguridad. Asegurarse que, una vez instalado, el cable está correctamente montado.
INSTALACIÓN
El Mantis® Qualis está diseñado para ser montado en la pared. El aparato tiene cuatro agujeros en el panel atras para
facilitar el montaje.

Para reducir la exposición a la piel y, especialmente, a los ojos a la luz UV, PestWest® recomienda que la trampa se
coloque al menos a 1,8m del suelo (desde la base de la trampa).
