The PIXAPRO® Standard Non-Recessed Softbox is a light modifier commonly used by
portrait, commercial and still life photographers alike. They are comprised of an Outer Shell,
a (made from a heavy duty, heat resistant fabric with a reflective inner lining), a Speedring
(to enable you to mount you softbox to your light) an Inner Diffuser and an Outer Diffuser
material (to diffuse the light) and 4-8 Rods (to keep the softbox rigid).
The problem you might have when using bare bulb flash or small reflectors is that the
lighting can be quite harsh, producing really high contrast images with hard shadows. The
easiest and probably most effective solution to this problem, is to use Softbox to diffuse the
light making it softer and more natural looking. Softboxes are an effective, lightweight tool
for softening your light without sacrificing too much light output.
These Softboxes are available in both S-Type and EL Fittings.

1. Find a large open area and spread the Softbox Shell on the floor, silver side up and place
the Speedring into the centre, with the narrow end facing down. Study the pockets at the
corners and locate the Velcro pockets.
2. Study the different holes of the Speedring. Insert the large tip of the Rods in the holes that
correspond to your softbox model as shown in Figure.
3. Place Speedring (with rods still inserted) in the centre of the Softbox shell.
(It does take a little strength to initially erect, as the rods are powerfully sprung. Care should be taken
and we advise that protective eyewear should be worn.)

4. Locate the 4 elastic bands inside the Softbox at mid-perimeter on each corner. Locate 8
elastic bands if your model is an Octagon Softbox. Connect all 4 corners of the Inner
Diffuser to the 4 elastic bands. Connect 8 corners of the Inner Diffuser to the 8 elastic
bands if your model is an Octagon Softbox
WARNING: DO NOT insert the rods underneath the pockets, be sure to insert them inside the
pockets, NOT under.
5. Finally take the External light diffuser and stretch over the four corners. Use the Velcro
edges down the sides to secure the diffuser in place.
6. Flip the softbox over and secure the Velcro flaps together around the Speedring Insert. For
Octagon Boxes, secure the back cover to Velcro around the Softbox Shell. Make sure it
covers the Speedring Insert.
